Do you ever get jealous by looking at somebody else's art?

I do get jealous, a lot! But I don't see it as a negative jealousy. If there is art that I am jealous of, it's in "I wish I was that good", but more so, "Wow! I'm jealous of their talent, I hope they make more art for me to look at. I have my own talents, but I know I don't have the patience they must have to do that work"....

Patience is not a virtue of mine...

Why do you think I'm called "Envy"? =P

When I was really young it was thought that I had a talent for drawing, but it turns out that I really don't (par for the course with me. -_-). So I get jealous and really frustrated when I see art that is waayyyy past any level I could ever possibly achieve.

Of course! The crushing self-doubt? The devastating sense of unappreciation? The gnawing feeling in the back of your head saying you'll never be good enough? That's part of being an artist.

This is me, every day, about pretty much everything when I'm alone.

I do poetry. Give it a read?

All the time, especially when someone makes something better than I could ever do and describes it pretty much as "a doodle they half-assed in under an hour". Some part of me always weeps at that while saying "Why can't I be that good?"

Yeah.. there are so many artists better than me and I think I can't attain that level of skill so I get a little bit jealous

Just human nature :P

Art wise? Of course, because I don't exactly know how they do it so well.

I do it with my animations more often than art because after I spend a lot of time on something, I always get that nagging feeling in the back of my mind that no one will like it and I'm just wasting my time with it.

nope drawing, painting, or any form of art like this isn't my thing

the only thing I'm good at with art is some form of sketching I forgot what it was called and building in Minecraft and yes that's considered art because the definition of art is "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination"

Not really. I usually get jealous if someone is better than me at something I'm really interested in, but drawing isn't one of those things.

Many times, I do. I like good art. If it's something out of my league, I wouldn't mind it. However, if someone likes the same things I like, does the same kind of art I do and/or has a personality much like mine, yet gets tons more views, praise, friends, and gift art for it, then strange things will happen to me.

Toy Story reference ;)

I usually feel inadequate in a "why them and not me?" situation, especially if they happen to do the same things I do ten times better than I can (or at least in how I perceive it). There will always be someone better but art in and of itself is not a competition unless you make it. It's supposed to be about unique creative expression, not comparing and competing.

Sometimes I get really depressed while looking at other people's artwork. It's soooo much better than mine, and I know I'll never get to that point (if I do, I'll be like, sixty or something by the time I reach it). I wish I had natural drawing talent and didn't have to work at it for years and years to get to the mediocre level I'm at now.

And every once in a while I'll go through my Deviant Art notifications and see amazing/cute/etc. art by the people I watch, and I'll jokingly think to myself, "I hate you," but that really means, "Your artwork is so good, it's amazing and I can't stop staring at it, it's beautiful and you have so much talent and I'll never be like you, why can't I be good at drawing, I want to be able to draw.... but I suck..."

Not at all, to be honest. I don't think too highly of my art anyway- and I don't really pour enough devotion and feelings into it, either- so it's not like the art others make would be completely outside my potential. Besides, I don't really view art as a competition, probably because I'd lose if it was :P It's more about self-expression IMO, and some people just have a better idea about how to do it

Very jealous, especially when your senpai is a ******* PRO at drawing. TT_____TT Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore his art. It inspires me to get better... it's just... AMAZING LIKE OMFG.

If this isn't absolutely amazing, I don't know what is:

i think it depends on the artist and their skill but most of the time no, everyone is unique in their own ways and have their own style to their art. I wish i could draw things from the top of my head but sadly i'm not as skilled in that department but in taking an art class i'm gradually learning how to draw real life items

I just started with VA this year and I can already name about 8-10 people whom I feel has made my confidence drop from 70 to 20. And I’m hopefully joining VA Higher Level, which means my confidence.. Will never regain itself.

Yes, a lot, but practice makes perfect, so there's no point for me to give up. I noticeably improve each time I draw so it's worth it.
