rainbow rocks Why does everyone like Sonata Dusk?

I'm trying to understand why some are fond of Sonata Dusk.  Sure, I giggled a few times, but she was cringe worthy at other times to me. When the other Dazzling's roll their eyes, I felt the same way. I can get why people like her as I suppose that it is similar to why some like Derpy. I just hope that Sonata doesn't replace Derpy.

Why do people like Sonata so much? idk, why does anyone like anything, it's all just a matter of personal taste~ She's cute and fun comic relief, and a good contrast to the other Dazzlings, IMO - it's more interesting if there's different personalities within the group, her bickering with Aria is one of the things I liked best. I wouldn't compare her to Derpy, though - more like Pinkie at her most oblivious, if she went (literally) over to the dark side

 

I don't think there's anything to worry about her replacing Derpy, they serve two completely different purposes - Derpy is established as a fan favourite, and I think considering all the controversy it's pretty impressive that we still see her regularly, both in the show and EQG. I don't know if we'll see Sonata/the Dazzlings again, but it seems unlikely they'll show up in FiM since nothing else from the EQGverse has so far. Even if they did, at this point the show seems to know what they're doing with Derpy and like putting her in fairly noticeable background roles, even if they have to be where she doesn't talk, and I don't see why Sonata's popularity should affect that at all.

Sonata seems like one of those characters you like or you really, really hate. What one person finds annoying is what another finds cute.

And she was only there for comic relief (mostly to even out how serious the other two were), if anything she reminded me of Pinkie Pie more than Derpy.  

Derpy won't be replaced by Sonata, even though I want her too.

 

If anything, Sonata spot-on reminded me of Harley Quinn (who is known to be found either annoying or cute), even the voice did.

 

So yeah it all comes down to personal preference, I found her cute.

When I first heard sonata I was like "oh no, she's one of THOSE characters" but as the movie went on she didn't really bother me, and I thought she was kind of funny at some points. I wouldn't see her replacing derpy though, not in the slightest, where have you heard that from?

She's an example of how a character works well with others, just like Maud. Just imagine seeing a Maud episode where she's the only character around, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORIIIIIIIIIIIIING, her charm came with her huge contrast with the characters she interacted with. So is Sonata, her silliness was a nice contrast with the other two Dasslers who are both mean bitches at best

Also it seemed like Sonata was just there for the heck of it. It didn't look like she really cared for what happened, as long as she had a good time. I can respect that.

I like her because she's dumb but in a really cute sort of way, she also wasn't really well evil, she just seemed to go along with whatever the other two told her to. She's scatterbrained to a cute degree rather than annoying, isn't overtly a jerk like the other too and just seems to be going with the flow. Like Couleur said she's cute and bubbly. Where does replacing Derpy come into it? Just seems like a way to insert "Derpy didn't have a big part" rage more than anything. She's more toned down, evilish Pinkie than Derpy.

 

Her fanbase is quite tame. I haven't really seen her pushed at all so props for that but she just is one of those characters people like. I can't for the life of me understand why people like Maud or Derpy but they do. All characters have fans to a degree.

Not really going to read this thread (spoilers and all; as i havent seen rainbow rocks yet), but basically when I first saw images of her on derpibooru, between the color palette and the facial experession, i knew I would grow to love her! I'll probablly swing back to the thread when i FINALLY get around to watching Rainbow Rocks.

 

I saw it becoming popular a mile away, but never did i imagine it would blow up as huge as it has!

Sonata Dusk really is a unique character with her own identity. She's a kind of silly, lighthearted villain that has an extra layer of personality other than just wanting to steal and abuse magical power to take over the world. It's really refreshing to see that compared to the relatively run-of-the-mill personalities many of our later villains have generally had.

 

People really identify with a lighthearted goofball who takes nothing seriously. It's why Discord and Pinkie Pie are popular enough in their own right. Add to that the newness and uniqueness of the character and a little bit of Memetic Mutation with her love for tacos, and you have the next fandom obsession.
