well to each his own I guess :D I love PH just as much as the original, although I didn't get into it until around chapter 25. What makes me like it so much is the fact Somber ties in events that occurred in the original to stuff in PH (I mean we even get some parts where 'Pip and Blackjack team up for a little while but it still works with the FoE canon) and the fact that characters like Velvet Remedy and Calamity do return eventually

I'm on chapter 22 or 23 I think.

For those who don't know, there's a game being made a of FoE, Now I know that it's been tried (and failed) before but these guy look like their making pretty good progress:

I never really kept track of how long it took me but it was one of the only books I was excited to sit back down and read. Rather than something I sort of picked up and liked when I was in it, much like the show itself, I was anticipating every time I sat down to read it.

Took maybe 2-3 months as my estimate.

Its a long on isn't it ;). I haven't read any PH yet, and I don't know if I will at all. FoE is Suuuuch a good read but draining all the same. I don't think I can hop right back into the bloody wasteland just yet.

Laughter. That's me.

I see it not only as the aspect of a good friend, but also a virtue for life!

To let the world roll over me and my friends (psst that's you)  and enjoy every moment is my life goal.

So let me make you laugh... Let me make you smile... Let me brighten your day... You may be all the better for it

PH has mixed reactions from people  :P but you're definitely in for a long read with that one  ;) it's up to like chapter 76 atm and still got a few to go  ^_^

When Homage looked to the camera and mouthed "I love you." I was about ready to break down.

"Oh God, what more could you ask of her?!" I believe my words were.

I cried as i paged through those last few scenes, then i saw that Fluttershy survived and i squeed through those tears. It was so conflicting.

Yeah it is a bit bitter sweet. She's alive and . . . okay not exactly well but getting there, so Equestria has one of it's original heroes back. Now though, Fluttershy is all alone, the last of the Six.

In a lot of ways, I wish we could see more of the restored Equestria, see the New Canterlot Republic a bit more. I know that kind of kills the point of it being a post-apocalypse directly mimicking Fallout but still.

It would be nice to see The NCR, maybe, 50 years down the line. Just to see how things turn out. I hope they don't turn into the kind of NCR in the games.

Give that it wasn't framed as it being bad I don't think it will be. Plus as far as factions go, you could do worse than the NCR. They ARE one of the only major democracies left in the world and actually have an infrastructure where people can actually live rather than just survive.

In my opinion( from the games). the NCR had good intention but were far too controlling and spread thin over their territories, plus i could never get along w/ them so maybe its just my experience.

But from what I know from playing NV the New California Republic and the New Canterlot Republic are run very differently.

I'm not sure how exactly the NV NCR run, but like I said maybe i'm just biased by my run through of NV. :squee:

It's very military oriented. The difference between them and FoE NCR is that it's run by Griffins. Griffins are mercenaries who are loyal to the death it seems. (Maybe they're not as different as I imagined) But NCR and FoE New Canterlot Republic is that resources are much more available.

Point is, Equestria actually has something akin to a Pre-War society again and the Elements of Harmony have purged the land of the radiation and brought life back. That's at least better than what it was before.

Yeah it seems it was like an accelerated growth, I'm harkening it to the promise of the treefolk in the games where you can help Bob/Herbert/Harold. They say "now it will be a manner of decades until all of the wasteland is as lush as this place" (or something to that effect). Speaking relations to fallout, I have been brought back to the games by this fanfiction and have been having a blast finding references that I missed in my read through. Such things as Old Olneigh/Olnay, Rivet city/Friendship city, The Underworld/whatever stable that was, the Mall/Ministry Walk, Etc. How about you guys?

Not really because I got what almost all of the references to the game. I did like some of the more subtle ones like the perks earned by Littlepip at the end of every chapter or how each of our heroes are basically archetypes that can be emulated in the game.

Littlepip = Small guns, sneak, luck (?)

Calamity = Small guns, repair, theft, scavenging

Steelhooves = Big guns, explosives, armor

Velvet Remedy = Medicine, speech, barter

Xenith = unarmed, "science" (alchemy)

I forced myself to finish FO3 before starting FoE so I did catch quite a few references. I've never heard of Old Olney in the games before though.

Old Olney is a ruined town near the top right of the map in FO3, close to vault 92. Whats funny is that you'll find a some deathclaws there, the equivalent to the hellhounds at Old Olneigh

What I do find ironic is that the Equestrian Wasteland is actually more dangerous in many ways than it's alternate Earth counterpart.

For instance radiation is a problem in both but the Taint is unique to Equestria, Super Mutants are tough and strong but Alicorns are just as dangerous in addition to being smarter, lastly Deathclaws sure are dangerous but they can't burrow and they aren't absolute deadshots with energy weapons! (What's worse is you can find Deathclaw groups, but they don't usually actively hunt in packs!)

Also while the Enclave were a major threat, they didn't have the numbers or the flying death fortresses of their pegasi equivalents.

Add on to the Everfree Forest, dragons, unicorn raiders or slavers, and Equestria actually looks worse than the human Wasteland by comparison!
