Twilight's Mane

Changes like this are normally so they can have the characteristics of iconic characters in every shot, like in a crowd if you only see twilight's face but you were on the side that didn't have the stripe would it be twilight, would it lead to an animation error of her being colored wrong, etc.

That happens with all the ponies who have an asymmetrical mane. I've found it most noticeable with Sweetie Belle and Bon Bon. One of the most obvious examples is in this scene:

As for Twilight's mane, there are also some scenes where her horn is between the two streaks in her mane. :oThe only example I can think of is this one from "Spike at Your Service".

What side is Twilight Sparkle's pink streak on?

Em..... Um..... Good question?

I think we have just discovered an error in the show :lie:

Also, have anyone notices how bold Rarity seem to be at some front or back angles? :BornAgainBrony:

The reason why the ponies' manes "flip" is because they simply look better in that view. This is not exclusive to ponies but with many other cartoon characters. In many cases, drawing the other side of the head would have the hair obscure the face or obscure a feature that makes that character iconic or just look plain weird. Take a look at these examples below.790657953242266541.jpg.3a0c0195fa5644fb92a045a68a4d5fe4.jpgEGd8wdcUcAI6B8Q.thumb.jpg.9f52ace141878982680ba5f4313396f1.jpg259.png.d27b3357bcc92d7289b0d7036c12d654.pngannxjt2qxbuy.jpg.b2c49ae53cb93e49ec64968b43b4bb69.jpguntitled-design-22.png.209e63b926f6e9d0eaa42cd0da86f5c9.png

Actually TV Tropes has a much better reason for that:

Ambidextrous Sprite:

Since the ponies are made of Flash objects, they — or parts of them — often appear mirrored. It's more complicated than a simple flip, though. The ponies seem to have a "good side" that, in nearly every shot, starts out facing the camera. When a pony turns around while visible in a shot, all of her features remain left-right consistent, and the other side shows — unless they turn around very quickly, in which case the Flash object gets flipped, and the "good side" stays to the fore.

This is especially prominent in the case of Fluttershy and Rarity, whose manes can obscure their faces. They always begin every shot with their bangs out of their faces, whether facing right or left, except when the shot calls for Fluttershy to look extra shy or Rarity to look worried or depressed.

Around 30% of shots with Rainbow Dash in them show her mane's colors in the wrong order. Generally speaking, the red stripe is on her right, but the mistakes have no discernible pattern.

End quote

Basically it actually does kind of make sense make it so that if the pony want to look especially in a good mood show their good side and when they want to look down or depressed show them more hiding.

You can Call laziness on animators part but frankly I think it's very nit picky to complain about every little time there's inconsistency with how they move especially since this "error" helps to make them look more happy or sad depending on the situation

For The record by default the pink streak in Twilight's hair is always closest to the camera except when she turns around in the same shot. And when she faces straight to the viewer I believe it's on the viewers right side

On my merchandise (not the printed ones), she has the streak on her left side from her point of view. The same is true for the streak on the back of her head.

The merchandise is incosistent with the side where they put on the cutie mark, so one might argue it's not the best way to confirm it. But most of the time it's on the left side.

The best evidence is the movie (2017) though. I'm not going to watch the whole thing now just to confirm it, haha, but looking at the screenshots, the streak is always on the left side, no matter in which direction she looks. This makes it the correct side for me. :)
Not related to the topic, but they also have their cutie mark on both sides here. This is how it should always be, in my opinion.

It's just an error made by the devs, just like how Twilight's pink stripe in her mane turns a darker pink in some scenes early in the show.

Have you ever had your hair fall on one side of your nose, and then realise it might fall on either side depending on circumstances?

I think Twilight might have a similar situation, but with her horn instead of her nose.

I'm surprised how nopony noticed this. But something similar happens to Discord. As you can see, Discord's horns do the same thing.

Here are some pictures of Discord having his blue horn on the right and white horn on the left:

Now, I know Discord can literally use his magic to swap his horns whenever he wants. But... why would he even do that?

BTW I know it's already too late for me to reply to this forum. But I kinda felt like somepony had to point out Discord's horns sooner or later.

I cannot believe it took me 9 years to realize the different positions in streaks and other mane streaks from different scenes.
Now watching back I'ma be more aware. lol

At the end of the day, I don't know if it's intentional to suit the character at that particular scene/moment, or if it's just an afterthought
