I just feel like its main purpose was to be just a fun little party game that you could play with your friends kicking the shit out of each other as Nintendo characters. I never really took it seriously, but meh. I'm the minority here.

The only ones are play the games from the Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat, and Super Smash Brothers.

 

In short MK continues to kick my ass, I can be decent in SoulCalibur until I meet someone who knows what they are doing, and I'm somewhat good in SSB IF I can get rid of the rust.

Super Smash Bros. Is what I enjoy the most. Mainly because of the simplicity and tons of characters. I find most other fighting games too hard for me.

 

Also I want Pokken Tournament to come out in America.

I'm loving this thread, already! other than RPGs, THIS is game genre that claims countless hours of my time. My first fighting game was  X-men Vs Street fighter. Because I was an elementary school student and a button masher at the time, I couldn't properly enjoy that gem. To make matters worse, I had zero sportsmanship, and I got salty from losing very quickly. That poor disc never lived to see my leap into playing fighting games competitively. 

 

Killer Instinct is pretty much my fighting game of choice; When the game got announced at E3 (two years ago, I believe), my childhood was screaming at me to watch the progress of the reboot like a hawk. To my surprise, I'm actually above average at the game; I pretty much only main Thunder, due to my bias toward grapplers; that should change by the end of March with the release of the game's second grappler, though. I'll probably be stuck as an online warrior for years, because I use an Xbox 360 arcade stick with CronusMax. :okiedokielokie:

BlazBlue is probably the only series that I've ever been really that good in, maybe Persona 4 Arena as well. So those 2 are my favorites (or maybe I'm good in them because they're my favorites  ). Still I do pick up, and fail at, many a fighting game; Guilty Gear Xrd being the latest.

I totally get what you're saying. It does feel like Smash Bros. is a series of party games with a fighting game flavor. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it is probably one of the least "fighting game-y" fighting games you could ever find.

I was good in Tekken 6, using Bob/Leo/Law. Gotta love those powerpunch. I don't juggle unfortunately.

Then Street Fighter 4 came in. I was good with Zangief ONLY

Then Blazblue. I was pretty good with Tager.

Then P4A. Following my previous 2 mains, I chose Kanji.

 

I did play Smash Bros and I like playing Ike/Meta Knight. (YES I KNOW MK IS OP)

For Playstation All Star I used Sly Cooper.

Forgive me if I'm wrong about this assumption, but are you a fan of grapplers, too? If so, 360 degree motion warriors unite!  I can never get used to 720 degree motions, though; even when using my arcade stick!

I really love KI, myself! Were you talking about the original games, or the reboot on Xbox One?
