Hi Steven Universe FC. A while ago, I watched the Pilot short, and thought it was pretty cute and funny. Haven't seen any, since then, but it's interesting to me how much popularity this show has gained. So, in honor of the third anniversary, I'm going to watch the first three episodes. Look forward to it!

I'm not sure judging it on the first 3 episodes alone will show the quality it later develops. Mirror Gem is where it really picks up. Stick with it, and if you don't like it by then, it's definitely not for you. Which is fine, if it comes to that.

There really isn't too much plot stuff before Mirror Gem, really. On start of Season 2 that stuff burns.

If you have the time, I do recommend that you watch every episode. Most are at least referenced later on, so although picking and choosing eps might not leave you totally lost, you won't get the full experience, and they all tend to expand or develop the characters, if not necessarily the plot. The only ones I can think might be skippable are "Onion Trade" (15), "Beach Party" (18), "Joking Victim" (21) and "Steven and the Stevens" (22). But, even those are enjoyable for the most part.

No, you may not. Skip episodes, that is.

 

Honestly once you finish all of the existing episodes you'll just want to go back and watch them all anyway.

I'd tell you the same thing as the others. Don't skip any episodes. You'll see that they're all worth watching I'm usually most excited for episodes about the humans, compared to.... Almost all the others in this fandom.

Only one more week for the second half hour Steven Universe special. I can't wait for it to finally premiere. And then we get an episode on the first of December, so things are looking good for the show so far.

Um... I really don't think that's possible... The show has showed us through countless episodes Steven has a clear attraction to Connie and vice-versa. Much as I would like the show to explore gay relationships and not just lesbian ones. We still have to remember. Gems have no gender. This means their love for one another is not built on cultural construct but rather something extremely personal and internal. I still don't understand why all the Gems are referred to as "her" or "she" in the show if they are without gender in the first place. I suppose ease of writing? Doesn't matter to me though.

 

Then again... The whole reason why Gems could be without gender is because of the totalitarian reign The Diamonds enforced on them. Gender is a cultural construct. The Diamonds clearly have no emotional attachments and are explained and displayed as being very apathetic and sociopathic. And since The Diamonds were the clear rulers of the Gems they could have warped the society's ways of thinking very easily for them to believe there is no such thing as gender or even attraction to another. I mean if we look at the ways the Rubies fuse they do it purely to gain a fighting advantage and grow bigger there is no attraction or relationship behind it. The Diamonds probably teach the same kind of thing to gems like Jasper. This is evident as Jasper says to Garnet "Fusion is just a cheap tactic to make weak gems stronger". Maybe this proves The Diamonds teach corrupt things about relationships and fusion to their soldiers. But that's a debate for another time.

 

We can at least deduce though that because the Crystal Gems like Garnet and Pearl having rebelled against The Diamonds they have a defined cultural background that is irrelevant to the forced culture The Diamonds enforce. Therefore in laments terms. The Crystal Gems have more gender than some Homeworld Gems like Jasper. I realize this might be getting confusing. But I've been  typing for too long now, I can't stop.

 

This is why Garnet and Pearl can be a part of relationships with other Gems or humans. Because they have broken away from that vile culture The Diamonds enforced. It would be quite evident that Rose Quartz having a relationship with Greg was also a sign that she too broke away and discovered her gender. I forget the name of the woman Pearl is attracted to so please forgive and correct me. But the fact that Pearl has an attraction to a human being shows that she too has discovered her gender.

 

Now I'm not saying Gem gender is dependent on attraction to humans or other Gems... But I have little to go on... When we first see Peridot talk to Yellow Diamond over the intercom. Yellow Diamond specifically says "Which peridot?" Much alike how every single "Pearl" is built to serve a Quartz. And all Quartz are soldiers. All Crystal Gems are both born and raised for a single purpose. They have no free will. I mean that's why Rose was so fascinated by humans. They could have any gender or free choice they wanted. So I guess I'm measuring the "gender" of Gems by whether or not they make choices of their own free will. And since attraction to other humans or gems (outside of for fighting enhancements like explained earlier) is all I have to go on then that's it.

 

I moreso want Peridot to get together with Amythest or Lapus. She has more of a connection to those two rather than Steven. And speaking of gender. Even though Steven is clearly attracted to Connie and vice-versa. We could say he's heterosexual. Of course sexual orientation is not the same as sexual attraction. So Steven could be attracted to Connie and not technically be male. Though to be fair... Steven has shown several different male traits as defined by OUR CULTURE. Such as attraction to action figures (the guys thing), working out muscles (coach steven), and most importantly he wears regular male swim trunks. If Steven identified as something other than a male his swimwear would likely reflect that. Then again in the "Sadie's Song" episode he did adorn female clothing but that was only for an act to cover for Sadie who he was trying to protect. At least I think...

 

 Sorry for the rambling. My point being. I don't think the show will explore a relationship between Peridot and Steven when it already took the time of more than 3 seasons to establish the adorable relationship he already has with Connie. The only way I see it ever working is if Steven fuses with Peridot in some future episode like he did with Amythest. Then again only time will tell in that regard...

Loved this one! I wasn't expecting Andy. Kinda wonder how Steven DeMayo would've caught on. Wasn't expecting Andy to just take off. The ending was nice.

Pearl is so Twilight Sparkle. I would even become inclined to think Rebecca Sugar could of been inspired by Twilight Sparkle on making her. Pearl hasn't shown much care for fashion she wears the same thing all the time after all.

 

The red one is like Maud Pie and Amethyst is a lot like Rainbow Dash.

Looks like Steven Universe is finally returning on January 30th in a bomb format again.

Cartoon Network mentions something big happening, and finally getting some answers, so I am thinking we are going to learn more about Pink Diamond in the 5 episodes we are going to get from the end of January to the beginning of February.

Judging by the color of that mecha carriage and the fact that it's a mecha carriage that would be Pink Diamond's carriage and that location looks like that strawberry field where there was a big war between the Crystal Gems and the Homeworld Gems. Pink Diamond may have died there. Perhaps more is revealed on how Rose Quartz possibly killed Pink Diamond... or is Rose Pink Diamond?

I think those were some of the best episodes of Steven Universe I watched. You wouldn't believe how excited I was seeing all those Gems in one place XD.

 

Also I think the Diamonds are going to start gathering up Humans as that's what Blue Diamond wants. It's very much hinted at by Yellow Diamond. So excited for what's to come!
