Tommy Oliver Rage Quits the Fandom

I never watched him but he sounds like an asshole. I feel like this show still has the same level of quality, alot of good episodes with some duds. I don't expect dark, epic, deep, serious stories from this show. Just a light hearted show with stories good enough to implement a message.

I definitely do not approve of the tone he uses, but this was a dose of brutal honesty the fandom needed.

I don't agree with his vision of the show. He's going along the Digibro route of letting his other experiences jade his perception of the show rather than judging it by by its own standards.

However, I have witnessed quite a bit of change in this fandom. He is right about the fanboying tribalism and the people bitching that the analysis community is ruining people's enjoyment of the show. I'm sick and tired of the fact that people are en masse crapping on a perfectly valid hobby and method for enjoying the show, but at the same time there are people in this community giving it a bad name and pretty much baiting those criticisms, and Tommy Oliver has slowly been turning into one of them.

But, to be fair, there are still plenty of rational voices that encourage this community, and blaming the fandom for this when your interpretation of the show is questionable at best is not the right way to go about it. He legitimately likes the show less than he used to, and that's fine. But his reasons for giving up on the fandom are hypocritical when all is considered. People accuse him of ruining their enjoyment of the show, and yet part of the reason why he's quitting is because he's letting these fanboy tribes ruin it for him. It's one thing to call out the fandom for something it needs to be called out on, but leaving because of it is something else entirely. I hate the fanboy tribalism and pseudo-analysis, too, but I still love and appreciate the fandom too much to give up like this.

This is a time where it's better to hate the sin, but not the sinner. He should have just left it at "I don't enjoy the show that much anymore and I have other things to work on."

I don't approve of what he did and how he did it, but he raises some important points worth considering.

Eh, if he wanted to leave, he could've done it in a better way than raging. Just bow out gracefully and walk away with class.

Oh well. The show goes onward.

I've never heard of this "Tommy Oliver" character before, but I'm honestly glad that he's leaving.  People like these make me physically ill; the kind of person that will do anything for attention and then scapegoat the entire fandom through the use of blanket statements that stereotype all of us.  His hypocrisy is made apparent when he states that, "you've done the exact same thing to me with your overbearing blind fanboyism."  So the people that watch your videos aren't allowed to leave objectively negative feedback based on their own opinions because it makes you feel bad?  What did you freaking expect!?  If you're critiquing something as popular as MLP:FiM then you're going to get some form of flak for it, whether it be well constructed or not.  Did you want the entirety of your fanbase to blindly accept your personal opinions and praise your critiques as if they're the best in the entire world!?

That view is laughable in my opinion, no one is entitled to having their opinions being blindly praised by everyone.

I shall end with this, don't let the door hit you in the flank on the way out you hypocritical, arrogant, sack of vitriolic bull.

Wow... just, well we humans have devolved havcent we, It is a kids show at heart you DO NOT rage like that. This fandom has great analysis community with great and sometimes outland-ish theories on the show but you DO NOT rage on a kids show. I agree @@Wind Chaser, with your statment "but, to be fair, there are still plenty of rational voices that encourage this community, and blaming the fandom for this when your interpretation of the show is questionable at best is not the right way to go about it. Every fandom has 'weeboos' and other 'people', but he is wrong about seeing the show in a positive light, everything has flaws and MLP has a ton so he has no right to blame us for "analysis community is ruining people's enjoyment of the show" as they say "haters gonna hate"

He is basically describing every commenter on EQD. EQD is an echo chamber of the rabid fanboyist popular opinions and the mindless demonization of anything within the fandom that they don't like (their horrible slander and refusal to be logical or kind to Drawponies during the tracing scandal was very eye opening for me). If there is a cancer in the brony fandom that is perpetuating these negative changes, then EQD would be it. I stopped visiting after the Drawponies tracing scandal. The comments and hate were unreal. I like Jerry Peet's views on the matter. He's just as critical and brutally honest without being nearly as much of an asshole.

Eh.  EQD isn't the problem. The fandom in general is the problem. Still haven't watched the video but, like pretty much any fandom there's a tonne of over the top idiots.  EQD itself tries to be drama free.

I'm sure a lot of us are familiar with the "haters gonna hate" mentality, and there's nothing wrong with that. But when the same kind of ill-informed opinion is regurgitated on the scale that it is, eventually someone's got to call them out on their BS. Better Oliver doing that than nothing at all, even though he didn't do it in the best of ways.

You obviously have never read the comments on articles about controversial topics.

Psh. The writers. Not the comments.

The comments are generally borderline retarded, but I see that on a lot of mlp sites so >.<

You've got a point. Most comments of ANY site are borderline retarded. Must be that those are the kinds of people that comment.

I mean lets not single out EQD here. Even THIS site has dumb drama.

With the drawponies thing I saw at least 3 people talking about how he deserved to lose his livelyhood and live off the streets or something. Fandoms ridiculous, always has been, always will be.

Amen. I don't have an EQD account for this very reason. The whole community is pretty damn hive-minded.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why I have never put that much stock into the analyst community. There appears to be a pretty high rate of analysts either going absolutely insane (i.e.Digibrony) or eventually falling out of love with the show entirely.

So what happened to Digibrony anyway? Was never really involved in analysis sub-community but I used to see some of his videos some years back and was aware that he was perhaps most well-known Brony in sub-community and also vaguely aware of some sort of drama that happened. Though it seems like it's been long time since he's become irrelevant (unless I'm incorrect about that).

Well, I don't really care for Tommy. I stopped watching his videos a long time ago. It's just sad to see so many talented people leaving the fandom. Digibro, Drowning in Horseshoes, MrEnter hasn't reviewed a MLP episode in ages and now also Tommy.

It kinda sucks

Mr. Enter didn't leave the fandom, he's just taking a break from MLP reviews. He said so on his deviantart.

I don't see what the big deal is if someone rage quits out of the fandom. I don't blame.

I distanced away from the fandom, and getting less interested in the episodes as they progress. I guess that's just me burning out, so hopefully the candle won't blow out for a little while longer.

Because FiM went through so many changes, it can't compare to earlier seasons in the show.

Got bored of analysing mlp and went to anime instead.

I only know him because of some hypnosis thing from several years back.
