Have you ever played any of the 90s Pokemon games? If so, did you like them? Why or why not?

Just asking because I recently found my old Gameboy and started playing Pokemon Red.

Pokemon Yellow was the sole reason I got a Gameboy, did I like it? Well, I immediately got Silver when it came out, so I'd say so

Damn good games!

I started with Pokemon Red (which I still own the original cartridge for) and just managed to find a copy of Gold when it was released (which has since died).

Yep! Pokemon RBY, Snap and Pinball. (Stadium and Hey You, Pikachu were released in 2000)

I loved the series because it was an amazing title for the gameboy. It felt like an open world game, there was so much to explore, 151 pokemon to catch and all the broken glitches which roumers circulated around. It's kind of funny looking back at it now that I'm in programming, the old man glitch is a hilarious oversight that I sometimes see in my own work every so often with memory allocation.

@@Celtore, Your avatar! - The Eon Twins are probably my two favourite Pokemon :D

Back more OT: one of my favourite thing about pokemon is how the new games are just as addictive as the old ones, but in yellow when I first saw that Pikachu following me around was one of those moments that for some reason seems to stick with me - I think it was a combination of finally having a Pokemon game (after having to steal my friends Blue version whenever I could) and being a fan of the anime, so I felt like I was ash!

I think my first Pokemon game was probably Pokemon Blue. I own every single Pokemon game, at least 1 of the generation (like RB/Y or GS/C... I own every game until NDS where it became too pricey).

I've just recently played Alpha Sapphire and Y and have gotten into competitive battling a bit. I haven't played in a while now and my New 3DS is gathering a little dust sadly.

Yes I have, I've played Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow. I own Pokemon Yellow which is my favorite of the old Pokemon games, I also love the later Pokemon games that came out on the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo Ds.

I have all three of the first gen games. I enjoyed playing both Red and Blue a lot when I was in 5th-6th grade because of the fun factor. Although I couldn't get into Yellow early on because I was confused on where to go next, I did enjoy the game nonetheless. :)

I first played Pokémon Red a few months ago I think. I had never played a Pokémon game before then. I never finished it though, it was a little hard to get into. Should maybe try one of the newer ones.

I've played every generation (and remake) that has ever came out with pokemon. These games were my childhood, along with snap and pinball and everything else.

When I was younger and didn't really understand pokemon getting the rarer ones was like such a highlight, now they shove every pokemon down your throat there is no challenge, I'm here for nostalgia.

Yes, I have, but never competitively. I played both first generations, but I'm very fond of Pokemon Gold, it's the one I've played the most, and I have tons of good and derp memories with it  (erasing a friend's file included  :o )

I started with Pokemon Red back in 1999, so of course!

And yes, I loved it. It was the first time I ever got addicted to a handheld title. The games may be incredibly dated now (specifically that PC box system. Ugh.), but they were amazing back then. I just wish some people could see past G1 Pokemon... Oh well.

Yep, I have played Pokémon Blue. One thing that I admire about older generations is the realism within it. While newer generations tend to focus more on diversity and other fantasy elements, older generations are pretty down-to-earth and feel more like an actual world. One example I can think of is evolution. Poliwhirl evolving into Poliwrath, Cubone evolving into Marowak, Pidgeotto evolving into Pidgeot... they don't change much design-wise, but that's to invoke actual evolution. There isn't any crazy "take over the world" plot either in RBY. One of the creators of the Pokémon franchise even confirmed that the Pokémon world started out as an Alternate Universe of Earth.

Despite my praise for the realism within the older generations, RBY are not my favourite games in the Pokémon series. I think the series got better after the first generations, even. Back in the day, these games must've been a major hit universally, but as time went on, RBY became more and more outdated. While it's not bad to go back and play these games from time to time, it's certainly hard to get into with all of these differences, from the glitches to the PC system to the early battling mechanics. As a result, I don't feel all that nostalgic for these games, and when I do get the chance to play it, I would only play it for the game-breaking glitches.

My favorite generation would be the second... I just loved Gold and Silver (never really played Crystal I think; I own the game but still).

I prefer the old generations over the remakes any time, especially the glitches are so fun to abuse and just everything gives me a feeling of being home :3

Every once in a while I get the urge to play Pokemon again, mainly the old ones on my phone or even on my GBA SP I "recently" got just to play the games again.

Yes: Pokemon Red.  My brother and I (he had Blue) transferred Pokemon via the link cable between two original GameBoys.

My first pokemon game was Pokemon Red, and i played all of them up to black and white, when i started losing interest.

But im not a genwunner, just because i dont like the new stuff doesnt mean its "worse", just different from what i liked about the OG pokemon games.
