Story Time: First Brony Experience

Yo so I had what I would call my first brony experience today. I was wearing a necklace with Rarity and Twilight dog tags and the experience boils down to this:

Friend A: "Is that Unicorno on your necklace?"

Me: "it's Rarity."

Friend A: "My daughter would flip if she saw that! she adores the show and loves to collect stuff, but it's killing my wallet. It's like $4 for these little horse figurines."

Friend B: “What is that even from?”

Friend C:"My Little Pony."

Friend D: "Wait you're a brony?"

Friend E:"Shit! Every campus I go to there is always at least one!"

Me: "I dunno if I am, what the fuck even constitutes a Brony?"

Friend C: "A guy that likes My Little Pony."

Me: "oh... Shit I guess I am one.”

Friend F:" Haha you're a brony."

Friend G; "Bro pony"

Don't remember any details after that but pretty much I got shit on with some jokes and I fired back with my own, laughed pretty hard, and went back to normal conversation.

This was so far from what I expected with all of the stereotypes surrounding brony culture and non-brony people's feelings about bronies. Still pleasantly weird-ed out by how smooth the whole experience was. Anypony else have an experience relatable to this? I can't be unique.

My convo went something like this:

Me:  "So yeah, I'm a brony now I guess."

Friend 1:  "I watched the first episode and it didn't do anything for me."

Me:  "You can't really judge a show based on its premier dude."

Friend 1:  "I just don't see the appeal."

Friend 2:  "Yeah.  And it's a show for little girls."

Me:  "Are you or are you not playing with Lego blocks while we're talking?"

Friend 2:  "Heeeeey...."

And that was pretty much my only real convo with non-bronies about it.  I did convince one of the girls to watch Fluffle Puff Tales and I continue to hound Friend 1 with pony references and links whenever possible just to annoy him.

And here I am making a power point presentation with a whole slide dedicated to MLP. My technology class is gonna be pretty shocked when they learn that. Can't wait to present. I have had a few memorable experiences on the bus with people talking about bronies. Pop goes my cover and everyone else goes nuts over it. The next day they completely forget about it.

It happened after church:

Friend: "What's that on your shirt?"

(I was wearing a Vinyl Scratch shirt that day.)

Me: "Uhhh... It's Vinyl. She's cool."

Friend: "Oh ok, I thought for a second that it was a My Little Pony."

Me: "It is."

*awkward silence*

Friend: "Oh."

It was great... :adorkable:

It went like:

Me: I've watched MLP:FiM Season 1 today guess who's becoming a brony

Bestfriend: Oh this show is cute never actually got to watch it

Me: You really should there's a lot of references to things I know you'll like

Bestfriend: Why not?

I love him

Me and a friend were sitting next to each other in technology class while having a conversation.

Friend: "At least we don't have any bronies here."

Me: "I'm a brony."

Friend then proceeds to face plant into his keyboard.

I love being a brony.

Mine was pretty uneventful, really.

Stepdad: "So what have you been up to all day?"
Me: "I was watching My Little Pony."
Stepdad: "Really? Hah, gaaaaaaaay."

Me: "It's pretty cool, actually."
Stepdad: "Well, if you like it why the hell not...gaylord."

Recently I had another one. (It's not my first experience, but shhhhhh. :okiedokielokie: )

It happened during computer class:

Random Girl #1 (RG1): *sees this forum* "Hey, what's with you and ponies?"

Me: "Ehhhh..." *trying to not look like a weird guy* "What does it look like to you?"

RG1: *takes another look at my screen* "...It looks like...My Little Pony?"

Me: "Eeyup."

RG1: *looks really confused* "I had toys of that stuff when I was six. Do you have those toys?" *turns around to RG2* "Hey, he has toys I had when I was six."

RG2: "Wait what?!" *glances at me*

Me: *getting really embarrassed* "N-no! No I don't! I just watch the show! It's actually really good!"

RG1: *gives me this really blank look* "I had those toys when I was six."

Me: "I just watch the show. It's actually good, and it isn't what you expect. You expect generation one..." *starts long and complicated story about what bronies are, and what people think bronies are, etc.*

RG1: *not getting it* "..."

Me: "You know what, forget about it."

We both went back to our work. (Me: Doing forum stuff.)

And then we all played on www.agar.io in one server and RG1 asked if she could have a go. She was bad at it.

All in all it was a pretty weird moment. :adorkable:

Friend: wait...Pony, are you brony

Me: Yes.....

Friend: Oh, okay

Sometimes he asks about it but he pretty okay with it.

@@Tranquil Claw, @, @@SilyGeny, @@KatonRyu, @@J. Brony,

Thanks for sharing these experiences guys.

No problem! I love telling stories! :P

It's that time of day again! It's STORY TIME! *faint cheering in background*

Ohke, gather round, gather round.

So at school I'm known as a vampire and a gothic, (I'm neither, :adorkable:) because I sneak up on people, always walk without making noise, suddenly disappear from someones sight, hide in closets, etc. (All true, I'm afraid.) So I thought it was pretty ironic that the darkness loving vampire liked pastel coloured ponies.

One day I decided to tell my friend that I was a brony, so I steadily worked up towards it. Here's what happened.

Me: "So... You know how everyone thinks I'm a vampire?"

Friend: "Yeah?"

Me: "What colour do you think suits me best?"

Friend: "Black? Grey? Dark-blue?"

Me: "See, that's where the irony's at. It's the opposite of that."

Friend: "...White?"

Me: "No, the opposite of the absence of colour."

Friend: "A rainbow?"

Me: "That's right."

Friend: *staring at me* "...Are you gay?!"

Me: *realizing mistake* "Nonononono, I mean, oh bugger. Forget what I said."

Friend: *getting curious* "What is it? Tell me!"

Me: *giving up* "I'm a brony."

Friend: "Brownie? You're a brownie?!"

Me: *sighs* "No, not brownie, brony. It means I watch My Little Pony."

*looong silence*

Friend: "You know that's f*ing gay, right?"

Me: "It's not gay, it's a good show, I'm learning stuff from it."

*another silence*

Friend: "It's for f*ing six year old girls."

Me: "It's not, it's for grownups as well."

Friend: "I can't believe you're doing that."

Since then he's tried to avoid the subject, and when he had to talk about, he talked about "your ponies". I guess not everyone can accept it. :adorkable:

Oh. I'm starting to run out of good stories. :(

I want to tell more stories, but I haven't really got any other good ones. I only hve small ones left. :(

I guess I'll tell a few small ones then. :adorkable:

Put away your napkins and lay aside your teddybears, because it's time for STORIES WITH FROSTY!!! *exciting themesong with lots of saxophone and bass-guitar in it* *crowd goes wild*

So yeah. My best friend that I met at my fencing club is a real fan of everything fantasy and lore related, and loves forums.

So this is what happened a few weeks ago: (We were just talking some small talk.)

Me: "So I read at the forum that..." (something, I don't remember what it was. Doesn't matter for the story, anyway.)

Friend: "Wait, what forum? You're mentioning a forum, but forum is it? Reddit?" (He's a Redditor.)

Me: "Nah, it's MLPForums." *thinking that he doesn't know what MLP stands for, like everyone else I've met IRL so far*

Friend: "MLP? Like, My Little Pony?" *looks at me really confused*

Me: *realizes that friend lives on internet and knows everything ever* *gives up* "Eeyup. My Little Pony."

Friend: *simply horrified* "B-but, WHY?!?"

Me: *sees opportunity* "It's a great series, it has lots of LORE, (he likes that, remember?) and it has got an interesting civilization." (He likes stuff like that too.)

Friend: *slightly off-guard* "Yeah...but still...isn't that for little girls?"

Me: *getting confident* "Nope. I'll send you a fanmade video to explain things"

(I sent him "Lullaby for a Princess" by Ponyphonic to "explain some history". I actually tried to show him that there's some cool guys in the community.)

I started an email conversation with him called "Explanation/Indoctrination, and a few emails later, he was one of us. Mission accomplished, men! :P

Oh.

I thought this was a short story. :adorkable:

I guess this is a normal one then. :twi:

EDIT: *exciting outro song with lots of hammond-organ in it*

EDIT#2: I saw a missing capital letter. Once I had seen it I couldn't leave it there. :adorkable:

Me: "Yeah"

Friend: "K"

This is word for word my first experience.

I really want to tell more stories, but I don't know any good ones anymore... :(

Oh well. Here's a small one then. :adorkable:

So it happened at a party. I was wearing my prized Vinyl Scratch shirt.

Party Guy 1 (PG1) : *sees shirt* "Hey, is that a My Little Pony?"

Me: "Eeyup."

PG1: "Oh. That's cool." *is totally cool with it*

This exact situation happened three times during that party. With three different persons. It was beautiful. :twi:

The most ironic thing was, that party was the party of that guy in my last story. He didn't notice me being a brony untill half a year later. :D

Sorry that this story is a small one, but I'm running out of brony stories... :(

  • 2 weeks later...

I have another story!

One day I was making a bunch of MLP puns and references, and the company I was with was vocal about their disdain of the TV show in the past.

Eventually the person I was hanging with had enough of the puns and said 'alright. we're fighting. follow me [to the living room].'

We made some ground rules like light contact, and point-based tournament-style rounds.

I lost pretty badly, only got 1 or 2 points and a few ties.

Wow, that got pretty intense. (I think...?) :adorkable:

Today, we had a guest at our house, and I was posting a picture of a drawing I drew for Wubtavia, and our guest saw it. (It was Wubtavia's OC.)

He: "Nice drawing."

Me: *blushes heavily* "I-it's a request from someone on the internet, they give me pictures, and I copy them with pencil." *really embarrassed because of ponies*

Him: "Oh. Still nice though."

Me: "..." *quickly hides drawing*

I still don't know if he recognized it as a pony...

My friends are all over the map.  They watch WWE, collect HeroClix, have Pokemon card game decks, and play games on steam like Honey POP.  Ponies are just another cute and fun pop-culture phenomenon in their world, and even if it's not their particular interest they support me in my enjoyment of ponies.

Any attempt I've had at trying to reveal that I'm a brony to friends has failed. First, my instragram. Followed some people from school, they saw me. Nothing. One day I was looking up MLP chrome wallpapers after I was done with the assignment, and a couple friends were watching me (they wanted to know how to get wallpapers). Nothing. The most recent failure was last summer when a fire a and I were walking around at a baseball game, and he pointed out someone with a Rainbow Dash t-shirt. Having not seen the person, I asked about the t-shirt, and when told, "I don't know, it was rainbow." I said, "Oh, that's Rainbow Dash. She's one of my favorite." Nothing. No idea if he heard me, or if he cared. I want to tell my friends, but just randomly saying it at a time would just be weird.

My first brony experience I can remember is when I bought a Derpy shirt and my dad saw it and it was just like

Dad: "Is that a pony?"

Me: "Yeah. This is Derpy."

Dad: "And that's from a cartoon?"

Me: "It's from My Little Pony."

Dad: "Hm. Well, ok then."

My parents were skeptical at first but soon opened up to it. They've even watched episodes with me, and have favorite ponies. My mom's is Fluttershy, my dads favorite is Shining Armor.

Me: You know the whole brony thing?

Sis: Yes...

Me: Well I am now one!

Sis: Noooooooooooooooooooo!
