If "Friendship Games" were set in ancient Greece, how would it be different?

I was thinking of that idea: since "Friendship Games" was supposed to be a sporting event, why not place it back in time to ancient Greece?

And there was an actual counterpart of the ancient Olympics for women, known as the Heraean Games. Do you think it would function as the Friendship Games' equivalent there?

And here I thought I'd be witty and mention fighting to the death while naked. I'd never heard of the Heraean Games before, but I think the concept would work with some modifications, when applied to EQG, especially since the pegasi in FiM seem to have been something of a Greek culture themselves back in the day.

 

To be fair, though, EQG is first and foremost a high school themed series. A sporting event there fits the tone of the franchise much better than something in the ancient past. For all the impact the competition had on the plot, though, they might as well have held it in ancient Greece...

I actually would have greatly preferred EQG to have a non modern setting. Ideally, it should have had its own unique world, like FiM has with Equestria. It would have been different in that the stories could have been more unique and less copy pasted from the premises of different Monster High / teen high school dramas.
