Would making the MLP Movie highly action-oriented ruin the series?

I still don't really understand how one episode/movie can really 'destroy' a franchise. I mean, if that was possible then the MLP:FiM Live Action thing they did a couple of years back would have killed MLP:FiM forever if that was true.

I love action, but I hate it when it's thrown in for no reason or used excessively. I think what would ruin the series is if the quality of the movie is far less than the quality of the show, or if the characters are out of character or their undeveloped selves.

I very much doubt there would too much fighting in this movie and when the rating comes out we will know. Pg then we should have a little but if it's rated G then I would say almost zero. I really hope it's pg, not for violence but that would mean the writers would have a little more more freedom with the themes they include in the story.

Action, by itself, is pointless. It needs to serve the plot or it becomes as worthwhile as a mindless porn, instead with "action" instead of sex. And since action scenes are easier to do than a clever... Anything... I`m willing to bet that there is going to be a lot of action in this movie. And that can be good. Like everything, it just needs to be done in the right way.

An action-oriented MLP film does sound interesting, but honestly I wouldn't want to watch it knowing that's how the movie will be like. Unless the entire film will revolve around a storyline that would make sense to add "action" into it, then I would consider watching.

Well, if it were to suddenly become like DBZ, that would quite jarring. When things like this happen, some fans will be alienated and new ones drawn in. The old and the new fans may end up fighting a lot with the fandom as a whole probably staying sore for some time to come (Good grief, the fallout that was Metroid: Other M...).

 

If it stirs too much controversy, higher-ups may lose confidence in the series' profitability and unplug the series entirely -- at least until G5. If the fallout from Derpy's voice was enough to get Hasbro to intervene, who knows what would lie in the wake of a relatively "excessive" violent episode.

I don't see how it would ruin the series. Even if the movie is awful, that doesn't make the series itself any worse.

 

As far as it being action oriented, I don't know if that would be a good thing or not. I generally prefer the slice of life style episodes of MLP to the action/adventure episodes, but if they can pull off an action heavy movie while still maintaining a good and interesting plot then it might be good.

While I don't see it ruining the series, I would vastly prefer the film not to be action, or even adventure, based, even though it likely will be. McCarthy's writing the script, and she has proven time and again to be nowhere near as talented at writing grandiose "epics" as she is at penning small scale character studies. Unless the extended development time improves her quality considerably, the film will likely be a plot hole-ridden, thematically empty mess that goes out of its way to glorify Twilight at the expense of both logic and the rest of the cast.

 

I'm not opposed to the concept of an action/adventure FiM film, mind you. It just needs to be written by someone who excels in that genre and can keep personal biases in check. Even so, the series is, at its core, a slice of life one, and I would prefer it largely remain that way, especially when the time finally comes to end it.

I doubt it. A single movie can't ruin a whole franchise. The season premieres and finales usually have some action anyway. As long as it'd be cartoony action, then it'd be just fine. I wonder if they're gonna go down that route. I doubt the movie's gonna be a very long slice of life episode, but I also doubt it's going to be a superhero film. Ah well, we'll see!

The nice thing about film compared to TV is that you have a LOT more freedom in what you can put per rating. I wouldn't be surprised if the upped the ante and made it PG, especially since PG seems to be the norm for EVERY animated film these days.

Eh... I wouldn't enjoy it that much, I ain't too into action, I sum up the second half of season 4's finalie as Twilight fights tirek for about 10 minutes, then fix it with laser rainbow. and, yes it was memorable, but the part that made that episode good to me was about Discord being good, the action was more just background noise in my opinion, so to do that with a whole movie? yes, have some action, but highly action oriented movie? no, and if it took away from our special girls (like change their personalities to be... more fitting for action) then I'd probably go as far as to class it as non-canon in my mind. I want mah girls, not more explosions. As for ruin the series, no, it couldn't, even in my mind it wouldn't make me not want to watch it because I'd forget that it was even mlp.

Considering we had such a huge fight between Tirek and Twilight, I'd be surprised if the movie doesn't have a lot of action in it. They've put intense scenes in the show already. If anything, the movie should include some action in it. There will likely be young kids with Parents who will be bored out of their minds if there isn't any action. Hasbro obviously has been trying to make Pony enjoy for an older audience as well, so a few action packed scenes won't harm the fans or the franchise. If we can handle the Season 4 finale, we can handle another fight in the series.

I definitely agree with you.

 

To add my input, I prefer action-adventure fiction over slice-of-life stories. Personally, a lot of my favorite cartoons are superhero shows, and they do action-adventure well. The attempts MLP:FIM have made are... not that good. If the more action-packed stories (movie or not) are going to play out similarly to the 2-parters of the show (i.e. needlessly making non-Mane 6 ponies useless/pointless), then I'm not interested.
