My favorite classic sound track is EASILY Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

For modern gaming, it's probably... hmmm... *Aborts*

The Kingdom Hearts series has some amazing music. And by that I mean the instrumental background music that Yoko composes for the games, not so much the pop tunes (not really into J-pop...).

Of course, the Zelda series has great music, too. Although I was very disappointed (in general) with Skyward Sword's OST. I hope they go back to stand-out music in the next Zelda. Environmental music works best in dungeons, but not so much elsewhere.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it save equistria with its five candy coloured friends and shoot rainbows at bad guys using their necklaces and tiara unless you're celestia

@, just letting you know that I've moved your thread over to our main thread for favourite video game soundtracks. :)

@ Topic - I was just playing an indie game called Beatbuddy, where the environment moves and pulses with the beat of the soundtrack. It's really quite awesome. You can totally get into this soundtrack without the game, though; it's up there in my favourites. Too damn groovy.

Hmm ... for me, the Arma 2, and Arma 3 soundtracks. I'm probably a bit biased since they are my favourite games of all time, but honestly, I think they have some pretty awesome songs that fit well within a decent range of different situations you might be faced with in the game. :D

Every Ace Attorney game had an amazing soundtrack. And that final objection theme from T&T...

Beyond that, Yoshi's Island had a great soundtrack as well. I don't think I'll ever get the first level theme out of my head...

Wait, am I old enough to be nostalgic about things?

My favorite has to be Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery. Such an amazing soundtrack for such a simple game!

I feel that original soundtracks for video games are under-appreciated since they're usually just in the background. Here are mine:

Mirror's Edge: Still Alive

Metal Gear Solid 3, Snake Eater: Sidecar Escape From the Fortress

Assassin's Creed IV, Black Flag: High Seas

Dark Souls: Nameless Song

Well since most of these are from visual novels I won't expect most people to know them, the last two aren't from any visual novels.

Blue Bird Lamentation

The Fragrance of Dark Coffee

Morphogenetic Sorrow

Discussion - Heat Up

U.N. Owen Was Her?

Calling

There are probably some I've forgotten which I may or may not post later.

The OST for every Kingdom Hearts game is one of my favs.

Especially these songs from Birth By Sleep:

Honorable mentions go to the OSTs from Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Wipeout, Wipeout 2097, Sonic Heroes, F-Zero GX and Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast).

This one shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who knows me:http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=AX6h8_Y_ot4 (My favorite track is the one at the very end, My innermost apocalypse.)

I used to love Sonic to death. I'm not as enamored as I once was, but the music is still awesome:http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=HUpCPpdjh1E
