Ehh...I think I'm on board with everyone calling the "formerly bad" pony Trixie. Her relationship with Twilight is still very lukewarm.

Plus, Trixie's reappearance is long overdue.

 

As far as Sunset Shimmer goes, it can't be the Sunset we know from the movies (the one originally from Equestria,) since she's a hero now. Twilight would promote a bond between her and Starlight Glimmer, not try to dissolve it.

Whether or not it would make sense for Twilight to not want them to be friends, a part of me really wants the "formerly bad pony" to be Sunset Shimmer just so we can finally put the "Is EQG canon?" debates to rest.

Perhaps not. I suppose it's possible that we'll get some kind of flashback backstory for a new character, but 6 seasons in that could end up feeling kind of forced and contrived if it's not handled right. "Oh, by the way, Twilight apparently has an enemy from her past that was never seen or mentioned before". I guess that wouldn't be the first time this show has pulled something like that. Cadance and Shining Armor pretty much just came out of nowhere, and realistically speaking, you'd think Twilight's brother would have been at least mentioned before.

 

Implementing a new character out of nowhere probably can't go any worse than that, though after 5 past seasons of world building and character introductions, there's probably enough in terms of past antagonists to draw on. It's technically possible we'll meet a new character, but it seems likely that we're going to see an existing character again. Given that Hasbro has been super vague about this episode, and didn't even release the synopsis we're talking about until recently, they seem to be trying to hype it up, as if it's supposed to be some kind of surprise. I think that's a tad much if Starlight is just going to meet some random new character. Knowing that ahead of time wouldn't diminish hype, unless the pony in question really is supposed to be a surprise.

Okay, no. I've been around and seen synopses not get revealed until later than others, and those episodes weren't supposed to be some kind of surprise. This is not a way of hyping the episode up. Hyping an episode up involves advertising it more, not less. All this is was Zap2It messed up and didn't include a synopsis, never went back to add it, so we had to wait until another source finally gave us one.

The chances of it being Sunset is utter zero. There is no way they would waste it on one episode. Not only that but it would make Twilight look flat out horrible. Any logical reason of this episode including Sunset is zero.

 

Trixie is the most logical reason though.

 

Only other person I can think of is some random person.

We are all speculating about it, with Trix being the one who comes to my mind, but there's no actual confirmation if said pony is a newcomer or an already seen character . it COULD be possible for said pony to be a former bully or general troublemaker in Celly's school who's reformed and Twi's naturally not buying it  being backed or not . Too bad we have to wait a week to have our answer

Honestly, as much as I like trixie, I gotta say her time's kind of come and gone. She's just been surpassed by Twilight so much, and twilight's Clones are so far above trixie as well, that Trixie just doesn't seem like a good foil to Twilight or starlight anymore.

It'd be like bringing Raditz back as a villain for Goku, they've don't work well for the hero anymore. (Ironically, I think Trixie is a Far better foil to the OTHER five at this point given Trixie and RD's personalities as braggarts or Trixie's pathological lying and AJ's humility.)

I think even Moondancer is more powerful than Trixie.

Well, Sunset currently serves as the leader of the Humane Seven in the human world and her redemption was successfully completed, so the possibility of her being the former bad pony is jossed. Trixie is another possible candidate, given her redemption was pretty rushed in Magic Duel. Plus, in the book Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell, she's back to being bad, but then again, that book's not canon after all, given its inconsistencies and Gilda's return in season 5. Suri Polomare and Lightning Dust could count too, but they didn't have much interaction with Twi, instead Rarity and RD respectively were their most close arch-enemies. On a more crazy feeling, it could be Diamond Tiara, but who knows, we just need to wait.

eeyup that would not really fit. but we don't know the reason why twilight would try to stop the friendship.

maybe it has nothing to do if the pony is a hero or trustworthy, maybe it has another reason why twilight don't want this friendship to happen.

to be honest, it don't really fit the princess of friendship at all to have such a misstrust in a reformed pony and would try to prevent a friendship because of that.

i think it could be something else.

so it could be that we have sunset after all.

slim chance, but i would not exclude it completely.

The comics already got to bring him back and reform him. I doubt they'd get the okay from Hasbro if the show was going to make use of him in a way that contradicts that. And given how long it takes to make an episode, I'm pretty sure this episode was written before the comics so it isn't likely to mention that arc, not to mention they probably wouldn't do an episode that's a follow up to a comic story since that would just alienate the audience who only watches the show.

First off, I'm just gonna say this. If this "former bad pony" turns out to be freaking Discord I'll be disappointed. Nothing against Discord, but I just hope they keep to the "pony" part of the synopsis.

 

That said my initial guess would have to be one of either Trixie or Lightning Dust; and possibly Sunset Shimmer. However; I'm thinking Trixie is the most likely here...and I really hope I am right. <3

Anything is possible; though I'm feeling that the synopsis is strongly hinting otherwise.

 

Hopefully the episode preview (if we get one) will give us a little more.

After reading the synopsis, I'm really looking forward to the episode. It's also pretty cool that we get to see a returning character that is a formerly-bad pony. I'm not sure who the pony would be, but if I had to guess, I would say it's Trixie.

I've seen the teaser & I'm glad it's her.  Although, going by her expression I'm not so sure she is reformed.
