spoiler So, What's Next For The FIM Characters?

Twilight Frost

Recommended Posts

I know this question has been asked many times before, but this time it is actually, literally different. There actually IS nothing else for the characters to achieve and I am starting to actually fear that next season might be the final season. I was really looking forward to a 8 or a 9 season series like how the original plan for the series was suppose to be for. However, there is nothing left for the characters to achieve.

Let me break it down for you a bit in my perspective.

Twilight Sparkle - She has her mentor thing going on, but that is it. She is not a student and Celestia and Luna have nothing to teach her. She is in every way their equal and has found her place in Equestria as the Princess of Friendship with zero lessons about friendship to learn herself, but lessons about how to teach and mentor and how to teach others what she knows. Her goal in life concerning learning is over and now it is just teaching.

Pinkie Pie - Pinkie Pie is one of the two perfect characters in the group. She has no life goal, she has no purpose in life other than what they already do every single day of their life. She has her quirks yes, but everyone has those. Nothing to aspire for and nothing to lose.

AppleJack - Even more so than Pinkie, the only thing we could see from her is winning that rodeo or whatever it was a long time ago that she entered. I forget what it was. The only thing left is to explain what happened to mom and dad and that is about it.

Rarity- Now that she has three locations, Ponyville, Canterlot and now Manehatten - There is nothing left for her to aspire to but to get married to some super wealthy, silver spoon, born into prestige prince of somekind stallion. But, that is never going to happen really so whatever.

Fluttershy - Has all but basically conquered her shyness and is perfectly content with life.

Rainbow Dash - Is now a fulltime Wonderbolt unlike before. She has nothing left to aspire for because her life's dream has now been realized.

CMC - Cutie Marks accomplished

DT - Now a reformed Brat

Bulk Biceps - Has now decided to teach other ponies how to lift stuff.

Trixie - Now has a friend, not just a friend but her very first friend ever and is now IN with the Princess of Friendship's Apprentice.

Luna - Reformed and happy

Starlight Glimmer - Basicall the only pony left to do anything with.

So whats next?

Despite achieving their goals, the characters still have a lot of potential experiences to have and lessons to learn. Just because they achieved their goals doesn't mean there's nothing more for them to do.

There are still a lot of ways for the main characters to affect others. They still have certain experiences that they haven't shared yet. Just because they've achieved their goals doesn't mean it's over. However, I do feel the series may be ending soon, but that's more because of the limits of what the show can do without radically changing or running out of ideas than anything having to do with its characters.

I see a few characters could still use improvements and stories - specifically Fluttershy, Diamond Tiara, and Celestia. Everyone disses Celestia because she doesn't do much. Seriously, we need an episode solely to Celestia. Cadence too. As for Luna, it's a choice: stop her major appearances now or start a continuity after the big event (aka Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?)

As much as I love Twilight, her life has come full circle now, so she's unlikely to have any more big roles unless there's an epic adventure (like the season 4 finale).

Background characters could also do with more episodes, especially VS, Octavia, and Coloturara. But like PonyLaces said, goals do not mean a character's end. It just means another turning point on the road of life - just like in the real world.

Well now that Fluttershy has pretty much conquered her shyness, maybe she could get some kind of career like working for an animal care clinic or something, that would showcase her better social skills or something.

Also I would like to see Pinkie Pie ending up as the owner of Sugarcube Corner after Mr and Mrs Cake Retire.

Maybe give Celesia an episode to actually receive character development?

Besides that, the only other thing that I can think of that's left for the characters to develop would be to have the movie be the series finale and have Twilight become Celestia's successor.

So whats next?

Season of Spike.

Seriously, he's the only character left with all his issues still hanging out there. He's going to have three episodes this season, but it would have been nice if a third of the season was dedicated to a story arc involving him and his origins, what he wants to do with his life, and putting closure on his various ships one way or another.

I like a lot of the things said here. Yes, some of the characters have achieved their goals, but that doesn't mean there can't be any turn of events, surprises (like new cast or places), or something to that degree.

The sky is the limit.

But I must admit, I feel the series will be over sooner then later (season maybe then movie). I hope they give a shot at G5 or something, a continuing series has always been a favourite for me. Especially when I'm following it.

certain long-term milestones have been accomplished for some yes. Rarity finally opening up a series of chain stores, Dash finally getting into the Wonderbolts, Twi becoming a teacher, CMC finally getting their cutie marks and Luna overcoming past regrets.  That being said, some of these can be further explored (nothing becomes settled after the milestone event for a pony has been achieved).

Starlight and Spike are the largest ones to have still a set of milestones to go for themselves.

But there are still some certain things that FIM can explore for their characters but it's difficult to get a sense of which directions they want to push towards. Because at this point, things need to get a little bit more complex in order for them to advance character development unless they fall into a series of unfortunate re-hashes of lessons and developments for characters. (S6 somewhat being inconsistent with that, but still it's currently on-going and still too early to say).

The "talk" about AJ's parents is one thing that I wasn't so sure if they were going to still try. The fact that they finally acknowledged them was actually impressive to me.  If we finally go for that with AJ then it will be one of major milestones will see upcoming (if they decided to try). Still can talk also explore about Scootaloo's future and whether she'll be able to fly one day.

I disagree with people saying that Spike needs more attention. He's done as well. His confidence issues are all addressed in Season 3 and 4 alone. He is going to keep being Twilight's assistant. I can't see him wanting more than that. He probably will never grow up too, since he's a very loyal kid who can conrol his greed.

As for Starlight, she's Twilight 4. I can see this series going really, really bad if she has to learn friendship lessons that Twilight already has learned. I feel like it's going to be Season 1 Twilight all over again, only more powerful.

I really want this series to end with the movie, but that's not very likely seeing how Hasbro loves to milk this franchise, this generation in particular. The only way it's going to end is if the audience starts growing tired of it, which yeah, not seeing that any time soon.

Sure they've met their goals in life, but that doesn't mean their life is over, they still keep learning little things they might not even realize. The FiM characters still have a lot of potential in life.

He's desired being a knight back in S1, and showed desires of being a superhero in S4. That's something he seems to want, and nearly every one of his episodes have had him saving lives in one way or another, not to mention helping Twilight save the day as much as the other mane six.

As for Starlight, there are things we can do with her.

Uhh, really? I only saw this knight spike as a joke, but that's an interesting interpretation. Not sure I follow, but it's interesting.

He's a character who not only desired being a hero, but has achieved it on multiple occasions, those Crystal Empire rescues/Gauntlet of Fire trials should be building up to something. Personally I'd like to see Spike grow up to be some kind of Guardian of Equestria.

Maybe he can be like Gamera to the Equestrians.

This show will not end yet. It has alot more seasons to go and is making alot of money for hasbro.

Speaking of Hasbro, I just found out something that I didn't know before. Hasbro actualy owns Wizards of the Coast. They own Dungeons and Dragons and Magic the Gathering.

I was lured here by the scent of dragon milk. I can still sense the inappropriateness lingering upon the damp air of this place, yet I am unworthy to behold its secrets. Nonetheless, the dream continues.

Twilight slays the first alicorn, eats Flurry’s umbilical cord, defeats the Show Presence, and evolves beyond equinity, finally unshackled by the chains of ill-conceived narrative. The writer shall become the written. Fear the old magic.

Does a  mid-40 year-old doctor stop having new life experiences because he's achieved his dream job and he's finally settled down with a family?

Does the President automatically stop learning and become exempt from mistakes once he's elected?

These characters, wherever they may be, still have much more to live up to. They only seem to be in their late teens/early 20s (in human years, not horse years), so there's still plenty of room for mental development.

Twilight is still very flawed and has a ways to go, not to mention there are so many different kingdoms and countries for her to try make allies with.

Rarity has definitely expanded her business rather quickly, but even then we've hardly even seen what goes into decision-making in her field. We could still get some insight into that.

Now Rainbow Dash will have to establish herself within the Wonderbolts and we can finally see the Wonderbolts dynamic from within and not just from an outsider's perspective. Heck, the whole living arrangement and group mentality thing sucked me in during the new episode.

AJ and Pinkie's families coming together is definitely something that they've touched upon that could make for a great arc to come. Maybe someday the Apple family and Pie family can start working together and help give insight to the other family on farm techniques.

Fluttershy definitely strikes me as an activist, maybe she can find an environmentally/creature-friendly organization like Greenpeace or PETA (a more moral and responsible version :P)?

We still have a lot in store for Starlight.

I don't, I think we have much more to touch upon. We've barely scratched the surface. Yes, characters have achieved their dreams, but when you reach a huge goal, especially at such a young age, do you just drop everything and stop? No, this is just the beginning. There are so many further opportunities that await you, and it's up to you to use your knowledge, experience, and friendships to help yourself as well as support those who have always done right by you.

So, I believe we have a lot next in store. :D
