Not sure if AOL counts. It's still updated but it's not nearly as big as it used to be.

AIM? Yeah the damn thing kept it's "classic" Windows 98 skin for sooooooo long too.

Aw, I just remembered Neopets.

I didn't even know it still existed.

It's not the same anymore. Nick bought it years ago and it's gone to shit since.

I remember hoarding NeoPoints from spamming the games. I was like a millionaire back in the day, but I'm pretty sure old accounts that were inactive were deleted.

How old are you talking about? I have an account that I created in 2007 and probably last used in 2010 and I just checked and it's still there.

Old old. 2004 old. I think that was how old my account was.

My neopets account seems to exist still as well but I have no means to be able to log in. I was surprised to even remember my username from there. I tried my usual passwords from back in the day but none of them worked. I'm wondering if my account was hijacked in the decade  that I was away from it or if the account was reaped but the information is still there.

The website changed a lot once it got bought out.. remember those little site-wide mysteries that they did that required looking at html? I wasn't good enough back then to do them but I had loads of fun following the solution guides. The website was the first time that I learned HTML.

I still log on to Neopets from time to time. It seems like all the people there are older people looking for a dose of nostalgia. I remember when the neoboards were so busy. I'd do the high school rps and it would be so much fun. Now barely anyone talks to each other anymore and it is sad. But I still like to play the games, customize my pets, and collect items.

I also used to go on Xanga, Livejournal, Fanfiction.net, doll maker sites, AOL chatrooms... Ah, it makes me miss the good ol' days.

Anyone remember GeoCities? That was a sort of social networking site owned by Yahoo! back in the day, a sort of proto-Reddit in some ways with its interest-based subcommunities. Good luck trying to use it now if you live in the Western world, it's a Japanese-market exclusive now.

Here are the oldest websites on the Internet that are still in use today!

http://www.warnerbros.com/archive/spacejam/movie/jam.htm

http://toastytech.com/evil/

http://home.mcom.com/home/welcome.html

There is a really old website I cannot find, I think It may be gone but it was Miss somethings either haunted house or house of horror or whatever, it had tons of 90s midi music in each place and it took you into the dungeon and the attic etc. Can't find it but memories of that and Kazaa just popped up for me as well as Joe Cartoon.

I found another old site. This one I found looking through posts on Nick and More's old forums. It's called NickDisk. It was a forum site for discussing Nickelodeon. It's actually still up, but it's pretty much dead now. Seems it still occasionally gets a post, but rarely, and most of the posts it does get now (that I've seen at least) aren't even in the right place. They either have nothing to do with the thread or should be on another board. Seems to be mostly spam. From what information I was able to gather, it started declining in 2006 when the original owner disappeared (I actually have an idea on what happened based on a thread I found but the person I'm thinking of doesn't seem to want to talk about it, so I'm not going to go into it, even though it was 9 years ago) and it moved to another site, which forced everyone to make a new account, and I wouldn't be surprised if some people saw that as a good time to move on. There was still activity for a while, but it died down over the next few years.

SMBHQ.com, known mainly for its Neglected Mario Characters.

Very first sprite comics I ever read.

P.S.: FanFiction.net is still pretty popular, as far as I've seen.

I booted up an old PC and pulled up the browser history for this.

Jumptheshark.com - this was up there with Snopes and was since taken over by TVGuide. Heat.com (you could get paid playing Quake), and I am going to count Geocities - even though it technically exists ... it isn't the same as it was in the late 90 when it seemed everyone online built a fan page on it.

The two most famous ones were a site named after a famous government mansion that was once a porn site :D  and pets.com.

It's been running strong up until a recent change of management...curse you, jumpstart.
