Maybe it's a good place to start, and keeping a short version of all the Mane6 accomplishments as not all 'em kids will know or remember all of them

Yeah, I like that idea. My guess is it would be a little backstory about the villain, kinda like what they did with Nightmare Moon in the series premiere.

There would probably have to be a short section of the movie where the audience is either introduced to who the mane 6 are and or reminded of their accomplishments.

I was thinking more along the lines of opening with the main villain--only their eyes can be seen along with an altered voice so that their identity remains a secret--contemplating their current course of action. The idea of looking back into Celestia's past is also a good idea. It would give her that much needed character development.

Hmm. . . If I were in charge of the movie, I'd introduce the Mane 6 through ways of legend, that way it catches the viewer on some events that took place after the FiM. It'd then cut to show the main protagonist, someone new who seeks the legendary Mane 6 for guidance.

It would be amazing if it started of with a scene in my OC's secret underground lab looking at a console screen saying that the main villain Herobrien has been detected within the galaxy. It would be something like this:
