Equestria needs the death penalty. The Season 6 finale is proof.

Yes, it's a kids' show. I don't care. Look at all of Disney's animated films and how the villains in those got killed off for being too evil, despite being written for kids. I didn't see parents complaining that Disney traumatized their children. Why should MLP be any different?

Because in To Where and Back Again….

….. Chrysalis refused reformation, she threatened Starlight, and everyone just let the bitch escape. Why?

If villains want to stay evil and continue threatening the lives of others, their own lives should become forfeit. Just as it is in our world. Understandably, we can't have ponies going Frank Castle on their asses, given the rating. So the least Celestia could do is instate a death penalty for when they're defeated and subsequently captured. In the end, it would certainly save ponies the trouble of trying to fend off Tirek again if he ever broke out of Tartarus a second time….

….. and not to mention Celestia getting beat by this other bitch a third time.

It wouldn't have to be shown so much as have its existence reinforced in a subtle way. If confirmation of the villains' executions can be included in passive dialogue, I don't think anyone would object to that.

The problem with that is that something like the death penalty is all but impossible to rhyme with the show's message of friendship to all. For the sake of keeping up its own appearances, eventually every single villain will end up being reformed. I wouldn't be surprised if Chrysalis were to join up with what's left of Sombra and terrorize Equestria for a bit before they're made to see the light of weaponized friendship.

I guess Tartarus is the best we can hope for given that Tirek ended up there and no one even tried to reform him, so if that's the worst they feel comfortable with I guess I'll hope to see Chrysalis ending up there. Anything but another reformation, basically.

It dosen't incoporate itself with the message of the show, considering death was never mentioned by name, in this show. Heck, they couldn't even do that in Tanks for the memories.

It's completely contrary to the show message, which is to spread love and friendship... Even in our world, death penalty is very controversial. As for the show, that means Trixie would have been killed, Luna would have been killed, etc. You get the picture. I love the show because of the great message it tries to convey, so definitely no.

Say whatever you want, but no main character in MLP would ever come to the conclusion that someone else deserves to die.

That is, until someone close to them gets victimized.

Trixie and Luna were reformed, so this punishment wouldn't concern them.

Love and friendship is nice, but some people in the world just want to push it away and make you suffer. The fact the show even has irredeemable villains like Tirek and Chrysalis is contrary enough to the message it wants to convey. They're a cancer to Equestria, and if ponies really want to prosper in friendship, they need to be removed. Permanently. It's for the same reason you wouldn't trust a murderer to be in your circle of friends. You can only spread friendship so much, and I think encouraging the idea that you can be friends with absolutely anyone is nothing but irresponsible.

They were reformed because they were given the chance to. Chrysalis in the show isn't that evil either. She's extremely concerned about her people and, this is her flaw, will go to lengths greater than she should.

The finale had her almost give in to Starlight's speech, only to let... something else (pride? distrust? ...?) get in the way and turn her down. The ponies and changelings did not stop her you could see Starlight's heartfelt sorrow for her, wishing she had not repeated the same mistake she had. So a reformation clearly is possible here.

As for Tirek and Sombra, we don't know enough about them. And misunderstanding is the source of conflict. Tirek considered the ponies to be inferior, but so did the dragons. Establishing a mutual understanding is hard and can take a lot of time, but is what is advocated by the show. It doesn't have to become friendship. You can hate someone, yet respect them enough to not want to kill them, for instance. The show is saying that everyone - even those who DID commit evil deeds with evil intentions - can become better individuals, given the proper guidance

Admittedly though, this goes far beyond the scope of this show, and is quite polarising in our world as well. I can understand not agreeing with this, so I'll respect your opinion.

As I said, they won't explicitly express that someone has to die. That's why Tartarus exists, irredimible creatures such as Tirek go there, and I assume that's going to be Chrysalis' fate as well.

I think Chrysalis hesitating was fake... Just the writers pulling out leg because they know we're tired of reformations.

Seeing Chrysalis in Tartarus for eternity would satisfy me after having put the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony through nightmares twice already with the Royal Wedding and then kidnapping them out of revenge to pave the way for another full-scale invasion of Equestria. If they had not held their fire to allow Starlight one last chance to see if Chrysalis would repent and thus give Chrysalis the chance to escape, they would have sent her to Tartarus right then and there and be done with her once and for all.

Heh, might be wishful thinking from my end. I know I'm too soft to wish her the Tartarus fate... I'd much prefer a big hug as she finally accepts letting herself guided towards a better path. And at the end of the day, she'd finally apologise to Thorax and even thank him for finding another way!

*sigh* I'm such a softie...

Forgive me for slightly derailing. I really wanted Sunset Shimmer in Starlight's place for the finale. Two of my favorite characters going head to head.

I think it was the writers throwing a bone at the fandom to be honest. :P

Next season, she will be reformed. I can already see it from a mile away.

Seriously? After having put the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony through Hell twice now, with the second time even worst than the first, you seriously think they'd be willing to give her mercy and a chance to repent? She deserves to rot in Tartarus with Tirek or be eaten by Cerberus for what she's done. One less black-hearted witch to worry about in a land that thrives on friendship.

Different strokes I guess. I don't want my Queen looking like a jolly rancher.

Yours looks more beautiful, but I find mine fits better with the scheme of the new changelings, so I find it more likely.

At least reform her after the movie if they want to do it..... I prefer my queen to be evil... But I already can tell what DHX is gonna do now.

I'd rather have her look like this:   http://www.deviantar...salis-638873642

That probably would fit the new designs better, but I find the new color scheme garish, so I prefer the other design.

As for the main point, I wouldn't be averse to Chrysalis being killed "naturally", like Sombra was, but I don't think the ponies have a concept of execution. They are far more willing to forgive than we are--look at Starlight (who I like, but understand the criticism of). If anything, she'll either be reformed (and maybe mentored by Thorax, Starlight-and-Twilight-style) or sent to Tartarus.

Its sad that her children disobeyed her though. I don't want her in Tarturus, she will either reform or just keep running away and being evil.

At worst, Chrysalis will probably be thrown into Tartarus or something. That seems to be the general fate for the worst villains and Monsters when they refuse to reform. Ponies don't seem like the type to kill.

And yeah, Sombra blew up. But I don't think anypony necessarily tried to make him blow up, that just seemed to be the Crystal Heart doing it's thing on it's own.
