general Anyone else listen to police scanners?

One of the things I have always enjoyed listening to are police scanners. When I listen to local ones it makes me feel a sorta of connection to the surrounding area or counties as it gives me insight to the goings ons. They are pretty cool.

I mostly listen to police scanner apps as those are very handy and have tons of locations but I mostly listen to local ones usually.

Does anyone else listen to police scanners at all?

I do on rare occasions. Though...if I hear about something that's really bad going around (break-ins, what-have-you)... I'll listen in more often than not...

i have one that is always on, Considering I grew up with a mom who always had one on, i guess it kinda rubbed off on me. Its really funny to listen to starting in November, as the holiday reports get hilarious! Numerous times, i have heard of reports of Drunken naked people doing whatever in public, and other funny accidents and incidents, not to mention, its good to hear in case someone we know goes across the scanner. I remember one in particular where they pulled over a guy pulling another person across the highway on a Sled Attached to a car from a rope!

I'm going to have to replace it before long, its 25 years old, and I have had to replace the original speaker with a PC speaker. It just doesn't pick up as many channels as it used to.

My grandpa and then my brother had them before things went digital. I used to use them once and a while. My uncle is a cop and when I watch his cat sometimes I turn his on when I'm there.

I use to a lot back when everything was analog. I remember a police department from a nearby town that used voice scramblers with their radios. Yeah, those weren't very hard to figure out.

With my state switching over to digital a few years ago, I kinda lost interest. I still have my old gear and digital scanner tho.

Police scanner? Now I feel like a caveman who just discovered fire.

@Twisted Cyclone what about you? I know you're into all things police.

I often listen to the Flagler County scanner just to make sure you're staying out of trouble.:derp:
