I have currently never owned a pet snake before, (though I really want to) what are your opinions on owning them, such as ball pythons and cornsnakes (of course with many others)? Do you own one?

I love snakes, and I hope I can eventually take care of a ball python/royal python. I find many snakes cute, and adorable, but many people have other opinions on snakes, calling them dangerous. While many snakes can be, most pet snakes like the ball python and cornsnake are harmless (unless you're a rat or something).

Ball Python or Royal Python:

I am sorry, what exactly do you

you mean? That you have never owned one? :)

What I meant to say that I never owned one because I don't feel like getting a Pet snake.

Everyone I knew who had a pet snake just let it sit in an aquarium. The snakes don't do anything. I think it is cruel to have a pet that just lives in a box and doesn't move. Dogs and cats can move around and you can play with them. You can't play with a snake.

I beg to differ. If snakes don't do much, then it would be even more reasonable and easy for them to be a pet. They would be in a warm humid environment most of the time, and also can be handled, so they can have "freedom" and move around. They like to have small enclosures as long as they are the appropriate size.

I used to own some snakes about a decade ago. Two California king snakes, an albino corn snake, and a ball python. Sitting in a tank is pretty much all they do, especially if they're babies. You will have to clean the tanks of stuff like droppings & sheddings.

You may get squeamish for feeding them though. You'll be lucky if you get one that likes fish, but mice are typically the order of the day. Depending on your location it shouldn't be too hard to get a bag of humanely euthanized ones for them to feed.

Though if you're store runs out, you may have to feed them live food or kill them yourself, which is what we had to do. Once had to get a bag of living baby mice and  ended up putting them in the freezer. Gentlest way to end them. Either that or the snake starved to death. Not an easy choice. So if you have qualms about buying pre-killed animals, then a snake is probably not for you.

That is my kind of topic. :P

I once had a friend who had a big ball python as a pet. He kept him in a glasscase, which was always kept warm with electricity, since Snakes are coldblooded and need the warmth. It's okay to let them slither around from time to time though. :)

Snakes also grow the older they get and they never do stop growing. So after awhile, he also got a bigger glasscase.

Snakes are very easy pets, if you know what you're doing. They also don't need much food, or atleast the bigger ones don't need so much.

If you need more info if you're interested of buying one, here are some nice Snake facts:

I know that my brother once owned a pet snake for a while when he was younger but I never saw it in person given he was living somewhere else. I wouldn't have a snake for a pet personally because I wouldn't know when it would attempt to squeeze the life out of me.

I've heard that Rubber Boas make great pets due to their passive nature and their less demanding needs. They're apparently great for kids.

I can’t even look at a snake, let alone own one as a pet! My dad had a little one (long before I was born) and called it Snavely, which is a pretty good name for a snake, and happily it was long gone by the time I came around.

My childhood friend has a couple pet snakes. I don't remember what breed they are, but they're harmless. They're kind of cute, but having a pet that spends most of its time in a box isn't super appealing to me.

I would want to have a ball python as a pet. Sure there's a danger to owning a large snake but that's why you have to do research how to handle them and also don't be cocky thinking just because it's your pet, that  doesn't means it won't harm you. I love holding them, I remember when I first held a teenager ball python. The feel of their warm body gently wrapping itself around my hands and arms  just makes me want to hug them, even though I know i can't. But it was a comforting feeling.  I wish I can speak Parseltongue, I love snakes.

I have never owned a snake but I would love to. Reptiles are some of my favorite animals! I know that these guys require some special care but I am up to it. I would like a ball python.

Ohhhh, me too! I want to own a ball python and name him either Severus or Salazar.
