What if Gen 5 were about the Student Six taking on the role of Equestria's protectors, the Mane Six having passed the torch to them in the G4 series finale? Would you like that more or less than the actual plans for G5?

I would prefer g5 be in a future equestria, yeah. But not with the student six. Maybe with a grown up Flurry Heart or the grown up CMC’s.

I think the best thing for generation five would be to have its own original story rather than standing on the coattails of the previous one.

I also would prefer G5 to be its own thing. Personally I want it to be more comedy- and character-focused, with lore and worldbuilding relegated to the background. Then maybe I'd actually watch it.

Unpopular opinion here, but I would actually kinda like this. Thing is, by the end of Season 9, we'll have spent WAY too little time with the Student 6. I think they at least deserve more fleshing out and more of their own adventures.

The only problem is that it wouldn't really be "My Little Pony" anymore if five of the six students are not even ponies.

That's where I gotta disagree. I think that's partially why G4 did so well. Coherent world. Lore and world building is a great sign and also the mini stories going on in the background of a lot of the episodes makes it feel like a real place. I think that's very important when creating a show. Most shows that only try to be funny all the time tend to be hated and fail.

 

On topic however, I hope that it's it's own thing. The student's are background characters at the end of the day.

What I have in mind when I say this is generally live-action sitcoms like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which have a balance of humour and heart not unlike what My Little Pony conjures up at its best. I don't have a strong reference pool when it comes to cartoons. In general, the lore and worldbuilding were part of what initially drew me to G4, but they're not really what's kept me here, and I've actually come to find them quite boring over time, and I don't think the show has ever benefited from making them the focus of storytelling. I liked the lore and worldbuilding stuff as a whimsical setting for the stories, but I'd like the next My Little Pony show to keep the same vibe and themes as the current one while keeping its emphasis on character-related stuff and comedy. Making it a fantasy adventure show, like some people seem to want, would move away from the reason why I watch the current show, and would probably make me a bit more resistant to watching it.

I honestly don't like the idea of having the torch being passed on to them. I would like G5 to either be in another universe from G4 or in the same universe sometime in the future.

I like the idea it's just still going to be continuation of G4. For it to be G5 they really need to pony up something different.

G5 wasn't even officially unveiled yet. Most of our predictions won't come true like every time.

Like in Equestria Girls, there were fanmade prototype fan arts for Starlight Glimmer that didn't look even close to the final version.

I have two theories , 1. it will be soft retcon/reboot that is concluded from the Cliffhanger ending Season 9 of FIM/G4, and that's things get changed around.  Or 2. The Upcoming EQG Special "The Other Side" is a hint of where G5 will come from, Humane 6/7 become the New Mane 6/7? Just theories, through.
