What happened to the King & Queen

Just wondering, does anybody take the time to think about how come "Princesses" Celestia & Luna are the rulers of Equestria but there`s no King or Queen. Is there another civilization out there or is it that their Mother & Father passed away?

Celestia is basically a queen. We have a thread on this already.

The only reason Celestia and Luna are "princesses" instead of "queens" is because the word princess is more appealing to little girls and would sell much better than "queen".

Most likely the King and Queen were Luna and Celestia's parents, but either they died out, melded into Equestria, or they ascended past the 4th wall and the Queen is Lauren Faust.

I remember a comic on deviantart that explained why luna got banished & Celestia`s mom & dad appeared.

Are you sure that they even existed? If you listen to the prologue in the very first episode... Luna and Celestia have been alive for over a thousand years, possibly meaning that they're some form of deities in the show

 

If Luna, Celestia, and even Discord* are able to live for many, many years... perhaps they, alongside other "deities" (Let's call them all Titans, as a group) that haven't been introduced into the show yet, forged the planet they all live on... if Celestia can raise the sun, and Luna the moon... they could even more powers not explained to the viewers quite yet...

 

 

*The reason I put Discord on the side of good for that statement, because he could have been good, ages ago... but his power caused him to go rogue, and cause terror.

Off topic, but in the episode "cutie mark chronicals" when Rarity is at the show in her flash back all of the ponies are the same as they are now... Why is it that only the mane 6 age?..

Celestia's and Luna's parents wouldn't have been King and Queen, they would have been Prince and Princess. "Prince/Princess" can be a sovereign title by itself, and it's the title that Celestia and Luna currently hold, so it's the title that their predecessor (presumably one of their parents) would have held.

it's all for the sake of princess and prince selling more than queen and king when it comes to little girls' cartoons. Disney had already set in stone with their countless feature-length animations that queen = evil and princess = good. Tia and Luna was originally meant to be queens, and Blueblood was meant to be a duke, but they got word that making them princesses respectively princes would sell a helluva lot better, seeing as Hasbro still has in mind that it's the toys making the profit for the show, and not the show itself.

Being a goddess does not imply omnipotency - that's more a feature of Abrahamic religions than a universal trait of gods in religion and fiction. Gods in most religions are limited in their powers, though they do have great power, and the same is true of gods in fiction.
