I prefer Android as I find it easy to use and it generally has less issues, in my experience.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Windows phone 10! Wait, what do you mean that's not a thing anymore? :okiedokieloki:

Honestly, neither one of them is great. Android has more potential and flexibility, but I have no trust in Google. Apple seems to generally care about security and privacy (because their primary business model is selling computers, not ad revenue), but their walled garden approach is incredibly restrictive.

I have to vote Android in any case. I'm a Linux user, I can't run iTunes. I need direct access to the file system to upload music and manage stuff from my main PC. That being said, it's not a glowing victory. If I could dump android too, I would.

As with any technology it depends on use-case. I am fairly close to OS Agnostic as each has their own flavor. The engineering of iOS and the better efficient marriage of software to hardware shouldn't be discounted. The recent iOS version change surprised most of us in the tech industry because it flew against complaints of planned obsolescence that are levied at Apple. iOS 12 actually improved the performance of older handsets.

Stock Android has its benefits in being more customizable, but installed on more handsets that should not have seen the light of day. The budget market will eventually be Android's Achilles heel.

From a development perspective, I find Android, on the whole, a fair amount easter to built applications for.

Android, without a doubt. It's much easier to use and far less expensive. Seriously, fuck Apple.

I'm thinking about switching to Apple for laptops, but only because Windows 10 is just so horrendous and ridiculous...

Don't do it. I've used Apple computers before, and they fucking suck.

They may, but Linux is f***ing shit, and Windows 10's monthly subscription stuff is just downright stupid. Seriously I'm NOT paying Microsoft every month just to keep my computer running!

  • 1 month later...

Ios, since all my purchases are there like videos, and songs that I got from iTunes. Though, there's nothing wrong with Android, since I used to own a Samsung and a Sony Smartphone. :ticking:

I personally think both are trash in their own ways. iOS is more reliable and consistent, but the most restrictive and you can't expand memory with a microSD card. Android is the most flexible and open and you can expand the memory with a card, but it doesn't really matter because most apps cannot be installed to the card at all so you are stuck using the limited base memory for those.

To me, the best mobile device I have ever owned was my Windows phone. That thing was great. While it didn't have the expansive appstore, it mostly had the customization of an android device while not being restricted with SD cards at all, you can install anything and everything to it. Plus I think it had the best UI. Sadly the general public simply didn't care, it was all about conforming to the big two and nothing else.

I've used both extensively, but I've switched to all Apple products and there are SOME drawbacks. My list of drawback to iOS:

  • Storage is definite. What you get when you buy the phone, that's what you get. No expansion, nothing. So you have to make sure you get it right on the first try.
  • Expensive. Price is high. You get what you pay for, but not good for people looking for an economical option.
  • Dongles are needed for a lot of stuff. Not a HUGE fan of that, but it's not a terrible thing.
  • If you are into hardcore customization and nitty gritty... It's not for you.

However what I find when using it:

  • iOS may have no expandable storage, but its phones usually tote beefy storage options for the actual phone and don't rely on SD cards which are slower and less reliable. Built in storage is naturally superior to relying on SD.
  • User experience is faster and performance generally gets better scores overall.
  • Ecosystem convenience for those who are fully invested such as myself.

Android. IPhones are for normies who have a small, underdeveloped brain. Just saying.

Many high-end users who are very tech savvy use iPhones, myself included! It's a matter of "what is most important to you in your phone experience". Some people prefer some features over others and that will ultimately make something more "worth it" to them.

Absolutely! There is a huge advantage here to the end user.

The irony here is that Android is more known for dropping support for phones before iOS. Most iPhones are serviced for 5 years, while many androids are abandoned update wise after year 2. Very very very few Android phones will be getting the latest update by year 5.

This is actually a huge drawback of Android. Reliance on SD cards has made phone manufacturers cut corners on the actual space in phones. SD cards are slower and less reliable than built-in storage, so they are essentially giving you lower options for build in storage which will reduce performance.
