gaming What starter type do you choose in Pokemon?

Fire first. Always fire first. Then either Grass second and Water last or the opposite. Don’t really care about stats or anything too much I just go by which one looks best and I guess is strongest after fire.  Even if the fire starter is weakest it still goes first.

Depends on the actual starter Pokemon in the region more than their type.

Kanto- I always chose Charmander (Fire).

Johto- 50/50 between Totodile and Cyndaquil.

Hoenn- I always chose Treecko (Grass).

Sinnoh- I always chose Chimchar (Fire).

Unova- I chose Oshawott the first go, though every other run I've chosen Snivy (Grass).

If I had played Gen 6, I'd probably always choose Chespin (Grass). Mostly because I can't stand Greninja.

If I had played Gen 7, I'd probably always choose Litten (Fire).

If I were to hypothetically for some reason decide Gen 8 was worth the time, I'd choose Scorbunny (Fire).

So I'd just say pretty much never the Water starter when it comes to types. Mostly because of their availability. Though I also don't find most of them appealing.

The first time I play a game of each generation it depends on which of the starter's designs I like best but I will get round to trying them all at some point.

My first ever starter in each gen was:

Gen 2: Cyndaquil - Fire (started playing during gen 2)
Gen 1: Charmander - Fire
Gen 3: Torchic - Fire
Gen 4: Turtwig - Grass
Gen 5: Oshawott - Water
Gen 6: Fennekin - Fire
Gen 7: Popplio - Water
Gen 8: Sobble - Water

Overall the starters I'm particularly fond of most are Cyndaquil, Chikorita, Totodile, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Mudkip, Oshawott, Sobble.

When it comes to picking a starter, I choose the one that has the best design :) Usually, I wait for them to reveal the final evolutions of the starters so I can make my final decision. Unfortunately they DID NOT reveal the final evolutions of the starters BEFORE Pokemon Sword and Shield came out, so I had to take a look at some of the leaks the were floating around Twitter. My track record has been like this:

Gen 1: Squirtle

Gen 2 (soul silver): Tododile

Gen 3: Mudkip

Gen 4: Turtwig

Gen 5: Snivy

Gen 6: Fennekin

Gen 7: Rowlett

Gen 8: Sobble

Didn’t they reveal Sun and Moons final starter evolutions too? I can kind of recall that. I know they revealed the first two stages but I’m not 200% sure for the final. I just feel like they did.

I've noticed that I usually go for the Water type starter, but I still like to mix things up every now and then.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

I normally pick fire or water types! However, in G/S and B/W I do pick the grass starters sometimes, those are the only games I’ve ever used grass as my starter. :BrightMacContent:

I tend to always choose the water type. However I did choose Cyndaquil for Silver. I still chose Cyndaquil when I played Soul Silver and Heart Gold.

Gen 1. First time I chose Bulbasaur, but I've played with the three of them, I prefer to use Squirtle.

Gen 2. Cyndaquil. I chose Chikorita once.

Gen 3. I've chosen the three of them, but I prefer Torchic.

Gen 4. Piplup, always.

Gen 5. Oshawott once, Snivy another 3 times.

Gen 6. Have played with the three of them, Froakie was my first.

Gen 7. Rowlet!

Gen 8. Have only played once, with Sobble.

I discovered very early on (like when I first really got into playing Red) that Water was a very strong, sturdy type and thus choosing the Water starter brings the path of least resistance. I have chosen the Water starter in every game since.

Always Charmander.... although I don’t think I’ve ever chosen a starter in another game.

Well that all depends on the difficulty of the game, but for me

R/B/FR/LG - Bulbasaur

G/S/C/HG/SS - Chikorita

R/S/E/ORAS - Mudkip. It was the 1st that I started out with.

D/P/Pl - Piplup. Didn't evolve it so I made the game challenging by not evolving it

B/W1 & 2 - Oshawott. Same as piplup for black 1

X/Y - Fennekin

(Ultra) Sun / moon - Rowlet. Same as piplup and oshawott in original version.

Sword / Shield - Scorbunny. Same as the others that I didn't evolve

(If spin-offs count) well pokemon Mystery dungeon goes, I always choose Pikachu as my starter, and for my Partner picks, I chose chikorita in Red / Blue rescue team, Piplup for explorers, Oshawott for gates to infinity, and Fennekin for pokemon super mystery dungeon. Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Well I know everyone knows that you start with eevee, but when it comes to choosing to evolve eevee, I chose espeon.

I always just base my decision on the designs. If I were to select a starter for every region in the series, they would be as follows:

Kanto - Charmander (Fire)

Johto - Totodile (Water)

Hoenn - Treecko (Grass)

Sinnoh - Turtwig (Grass)

Unova - Snivy (Grass)

Kalos - Fennekin (Fire)

Alola - Litten (Fire)

Galar - Scorbunny (Fire)

Overall, I definitely do tend to have a predilection for the fire types, although, for me, my starter choice is usually completely subjective from game to game.

I don't have a particular type I like, when it comes to the partner Pokémon. It's all about the personaility and design for me. The Anime really helps to learn more about them. :)

Spoiler

Kanto: Bulbasaur

Johto: Chikorita

Hoenn: Treecko

Sinnoh: Turtwig

Unova: Snivy

Kalos: Fennekin

Alola: Popplio

Galar: Scorbunny

I know, the grass type is the most dominant here, but that's a mere coincidence. :rarity:
