What was your reaction to the baby pony design?

Now I am not asking about Pound Cake or Pumpkin Cake, I am just wondering what people thought of the baby pony design. Like was this what you thought a baby pony would look like and what did you think of their body, eyes, how fast the develop? Cause during season one we did not see any kind of baby and the first baby pony would not show up till the Mare Do Well episode. When I first saw it I was surprised because it I did not think of what a pony baby would look like.For me I liked how the babies looked, very cute. It was a pony, but it looked like the same size as a normal baby. The eyes are also very cute and I kinda think they can develop a lot faster then normal babies. Seeing as it takes a normal pony a few hours to start moving. Also they look super cute wearing diapers.

I guess it depends on if they want to fly or not. We don't always use all we have around us, or she just may not want to. Who says she has to? Just saying.

I agree with everybody else here, actually. It's their eyes... I'd prefer them to have the style of eyes that the rest of the ponies have. However, it's not a big deal to me.

I thought they were cute but there were a few problems. There was the idea that Pound Cake could fly but Scootoloo can't. Also the idea that Twilight Sparkle said she had to work really hard before she can do any type of magic and right awake the other baby (I'm sorry I forgot her name) was able to do magic and was actually pretty good at it. I mean maybe they are extremely advanced babies but it was just something that didn't work out in my head.

It's not the size of the eyes, it's the fact that they don't have whites, irises and pupils like the other ponies, the baby eyes are almost featureless, except for their glossy look. They just look cold, empty and dead like the eyes of a shark, it's really uncanny.

Ponies are allegories for humans. So a pony baby will look like a human baby. The baby will not be walking in a few hours, it will be helpless as long as the human counterpart.

The proportions: big head with short limbs are exactly those of a human baby.

 

all that said, if you want to over analyze MLP, then ponies have as much in common with real horses and ponies as a human has in common with a monkey. The long snout and swaying belly of a pony are gone. The belly is huge in a real pony because they need to eat a LOT of grass to get what little nutrition is in the plant. No pony in MLP will graze, they are a farming society, fruit and veggies are far better for an intelligent being than grass.

 

Human babies are born earlier than other animals for one reason. The brain. The head of a human is so big, that it won't fit through the birth canal, so the child is born earlier than normal. A real colt is born far more developed and ready to stand in a few hours. a Human baby is born so early, that it is helpless for several years, and must be cared for by two parents (the nuclear family was born as well.

 

Ponies are as smart as humans and as evidenced by their heads, their brains are just as big. So its no wonder that they are as helpless as a human baby would be. Human and pony societies are very similar, and share physical resemblances as well as cultural traits.

 

For that reason think of ponies as less a horse and more as a human. I see them about 4 feet tall at the ears and weighing as much as a normal human (they are spread out horizontally whereas we are vertical). If you were to change into a pony there would be no left over mass.

The design to me just stands out a lot compared to all the other ponies in the show.
