Can pony parents see the future?

This isn't a joke thread. As you have seen in multiple ponies, their cutie marks have matched their names (Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, Featherweight, Snips, Snails, and dozens of other ponies). Clearly they don't get a name change when they get a cutie mark. How can the parents know exactly what their son/daughter's special talent will be?

Ooh! Ooh! More guessing games! Um... Pokey Smokes! How about Queen Meanie? No! Black Snooty, Black Snooty!

Maybe they just name them after appearance characteristics? Or even, like humans, some names can be like surnames.

Though I think the appearance one makes more sense in the context of the show. Like, Featherweight is very skinny, Snips and Snails... well, look at them. Their names really match them. :P

maybe their talent becomes what they want it to be as well something hidden within them. IE a pony can get 2 cutie marks if really skilled doing more than what they can. Their names might push them hard to get into something... maybe no future seeing at all.

Wait, I realized something. There is an even bigger plot hole in the CMC.

Since they do not have cutie marks, and the show is probably not going to reveal their cutie marks anytime soon, then their names kind of go againt this common naming system.

Maybe, as I said, the parents just name kids based on appearance. :/

It's scientifically proved that child's name influences its behavior (although not very much). Maybe sometimes, somehow pony's name determine its talent? Edited by Spatsi

Not all of them are like that though. I think it would have just been coincidence.

though now I'm wondering what snips and snails special talent actually is.

Also Derpy. she has bubbles. I mean, what? Is she talented at being an airhead? Or can she blow bubbles really well?

Or there is another way to look at it. Since the children got that name they see it as obvious that they will get a cutie mark that represents with their name. Therefore they think that they will get a certain cutiemark, and sometimes the mind is quite strong, so they get that cuitemark.

#1. Maybe they just assume that their kids will get similar cutie marks as their parents? For example, Twilight's parents both have magic related cutie marks, they just assume that their foals would equally enjoy magic. Even if so, Shining Armor and Twilight Sparkle both seem like perfectly logical pony names no matter what cutie mark. This follows many names. For example, Pinkie Pie is a very vague name. A cheerful one, but it fits no matter what Pinkie's cutie mark is. So are names like Rarity, Applejack, Apple Bloom etc.

#2. Parents could just take their kids physical and personality features into consideration. Fluttershy, is of course, very shy and timid and has nothing to do with animals. Rainbow Dash was probably just named for her mane. If a pony is very athletic looking or very active as a foal maybe parents just assume that their babies would have an athletic cutie mark.

Even thou a lot of charters have names that match their skills, I don't think parents can product the future. I think it's just a coincidence that their names came out like that. Their names could be picked after the parents watch them for a while or as some said what fiscal traits. Like Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, they are named based on their colors. For Fluttershy she could have been shy as a baby.

Howdy!!!

Those are all the posibilities...i thinked about.

The name might be changed when the cutie mark or the name could firstly appear when the pony gets his cutie mark.

There is also another the names could be just a coincidence. One more would be the fact that the parents know already what they're filly's cuttie mark.Or the last option the name influence the cutie mark

Just btw, though it took me a while to realize myself:

Magic tricks --> Trixie

Lol. Though more on-topic, I just figure ponies with more ordinary or less activity-related names are a bit... "luckier"? lol

Probably can. It can't be just a coincidence. Or maybe Celestia, who knows everything, tells them what their child will be like or what they should name it. I have no idea.

Well we know it's not name changes based on when the Mane 6 had their flashbacks and getting their cutie marks, their names didn't get changed. I guess that the name could affect the possible outcome of their cutie mark, but still, It's quite strange.

I think its right that they see the future.

Rainbow Dash:Super Fast and can perform the Sonic Rainboom

Fluttershy:Very shy and cares for animals

Applejack:Collects apples as a work

Twilight Sparkle:Can do magic and her Cutie mark is a "spark"

Pinkie Pie:Lives and works in Sugarcube Corner and makes parties

Well then, it seems like we have more Pinkie Pies in Equestria than we previously thought. Ummmmm.....
