How can Earth Ponies stand not having wings/magic?

Yeah, I can imagine them all being envious sometimes of the other types. Earth ponies do seem like they get the worst of the lot, but I also imagine that not every pony WANTS to fly or WANTS to do magic, either. If you're afraid of heights, flying is out (and how rotten would it be if you were a pegasus with a fear of flying? Think of Fluttershy and how scared she was in flight camp.) And magic can be rather frightening/startling to be around if you aren't used to it. So I imagine that earth ponies have their own talents and skills and that while yes, some of them may be envious of their winged/horned friends, some of them may also be really happy that all their hooves are on the ground!

Perhaps it's...oh what do you call it again? oh yes, instinct. Just like it's any animal's instinct to survive and reproduce, perhaps it's earth pony instinct to not be envious of pegasi or unicorn powers. Like it's wired into their brain, something they can't help.

I always imagine the Earth ponies having the natural ability of super strength, and possibly even super speed. Applejack is physically the toughest of the ponies due to her constant labor in the farming life. One serious buck kick from her is sure to lay somepony out for good. Pinkie Pie has been seen to outrun Rainbow Dash in Party of One, even though Rainbow Dash is known for her amazing speed. (Of course Rainbow Dash could Sonic Rainbowboom away if she really wanted to.. but that doesn't count.) Pinkie Pie also worked on a farm pushing around rocks for a living through her youth, which makes me think she also has higher strength when compared to the others (besides Applejack).

 

So yeah.. Earth ponies still have their vital part in the circle of life.. harvesting and acquiring food and all that. I bet even Pegasi are envious of Unicorns.. who wouldn't want to use magic? D:

I always felt that if I were a Unicorn, I would feel a bit dismayed at being shoehorned into the weak and bookish category. I would be the one unicorn down on the farm, trying to become physically superior. I imagine Earth ponies would feel similar at times.

 

Zecora can make potions that appear to have magical properties. Perhaps a highly intelligent Earth pony could potion up some magic? or perhaps engineer a flying machine of some sort? Seems to me that most of the racial differences can be overcome through talent and hard work which seems to be what the Earth ponies are known for anyway.

I can imagine some earth ponies jealous of not flying or using magic, but they do have some special connection with the earth, since AJ can grow food easily and what not. Not to mention most ponies planting the food during the Winter Wrap Up were earth ponies. (Well, that was probably because the 2 others had other jobs...)

I was going to completely agree until I read some of these posts. Earth ponies are basically the life blood. Ironically, I just watched the episode on how Equestria came to be, and that was their role, to grow the crops, make the food and whatnot.

The same way a warrior would be able to stand it when he's next to a stealthy rogue and powerful wizard. Earth Ponies fill in a very important social class: Agriculture. So what if a Unicorn can use spells? Given what we've seen so far, only special ponies like Twilight Sparkle can cast a variety of different spells. Earth Ponies are needed for agriculture and I've yet to see an agricultural Unicorn. So what if Pegasi can control the weather and fly? They'll be too busy eating their own wings to do any of that without Earth Ponies.

I think all ponies have magic it's just unicorns are able to use it in many ways with their horns. Peguasi have magic to help them fly. For example Bulk Biceps has to use more of his magic to make himself fly because bigger body and smaller wings = more magic needed. If a small thin pony with big wings were to fly it would use little to no magic. Earth ponies use their magic to make themselves natural farmers and stronger. On the other stand pinkie pie has crazy amounts of magic she can use for different thing such as predicting weather and breaking the 4th wall ect. All of this can be backed up with tirek. When he first began his quest of power he started with unicorns because it was easier to get their magic threw their horns then he went to pegusai then to earth ponies. So in the end everyone has magic!!!

Before all you high-ranked veterans of MLPforums scream that you have seen this post fifty billion times, just hear me out. I really don't get how earth ponies can be totally fine with not having any powers or special abilities while there are unicorns and pegasi all around them who can fly and perform magic. It doesn't seem like they would manage it very long. Somepony would have probably stood up and said that it wasn't fair by now how other races can do amazing things like fly and cast spells while earth ponies can... run. Yes, they can do some pretty awesome things, like... throw hay bales... and buck apples off of trees, but it would still get some ponies pretty annoyed I'm sure.

 

Earth ponies are cool with it because they are probably the most OP out of the three tribes, especially when it comes to The Pie Family and Party Ponies. 

 

One, they have a ridiculous life span. Granny Smith was around since the founding of ponyville which was hundreds of years before the show began, and she was an adult when the village was founded. Doctor Whooves is another Earth Pony, and he also said he's a couple hundred years old. Have we seen an elderly pony that wasn't an earth pony yet? I'm not sure. Plus Pinkie was planning her parents birthday's all the way up to their 500th. 

 

Two, they can manipulate their magic through entire body. Pinkie is exceptionally gifted in this, able to treat her body as light and arid as a balloon or use her mane to literally drill through the ground. When Applejack bucks a tree it does not just jostle out the apples, they land perfectly into the buckets, and the ones that don't land in the buckets are questionable and need to be inspected to see if they are worth selling. She controlled the trajectory of hundreds of apples in the split second her hooves touched the trunk of that tree and sent the magic through to the branches. Maud utilizes the same thing against rocks. When she touches a rock she fills it with magic and that contact allows her to manipulate it; either by breaking it apart or sending it flying far enough and fast enough that it causes a literal mushroom cloud. That Mushroom cloud she made when she chucked that boulder was not from kinetic force, it was a magical discharge just like when Rainbow leveled Applejack's barn.

 

Three, they control LIFE; Literally they can control the lifespan of plant life with their magic. They can accelerate the growth of the plants, make them bare fruit dozens of times a year, and if they aren't careful they can devistate their own crops by making them die out. Remember when Pinkie was cutie mark swapped and was running Applejacks farm? She didn't know what she was doing that whole day and ended up making ALL THE TREES DIE. Yet Applejack and her family fixed it in a very short amount of time. That's some op shiz.

 

Four, They can warp reality; Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich are two Party Ponies, and they have the capability of warping reality around them. They break the logic of even their own cartoon world, and while they aren't as capable as say Discord they are certainly op when compared to other ponies. Pinkie can control her own reflection, appear anywhere she wants, inflate her head to disturbing sizes, slow her decent as she falls to make the tiniest splash in existence, understands how transdeminsional travel works and actually explains it to Twilight and the others, and has an eidetic memory to boot.

 

Frankly if I had to pick to be one of the three tribes, I'd be an Earth pony like Pinkie or Maud in a heart beat.

Sure Unicorns and Pegasi can use magic and fly, and that's cool and all..
But there are still things that each race is capable of and each also has their limitations..
 
So let's think of this hypothetical scenario involving boxes:

An Earth pony, A Unicorn and A Pegasus all need to cart around 10 large and heavy boxes a long distance away to a barn to store them..
They all start at the same time from the same location, but they all have different ways they could do this..
 
The Earth pony puts on a harness and takes the entire load in a cart and begins the trip, and
can do it all in one go because Earth ponies are much stronger and are used to this hard work..
The Pegasus can only carry 1 box and has to make multiple trips, being as heavy as
it is, the Pegasus can't fly too fast as they risk dropping it and damaging the contents..
The Unicorn uses their magic to lift and move the boxes and either has to make the same amount of trips
as the Pegasus, or enchant a cart and take them all at once just like the Earth pony did for their boxes..
 
In any case, they ALL are capable of moving these boxes and could all deliver them, possibly around the same time..
But there are also variables that could've been added to this scenario that would make it much harder for another race..
What if the terrain was mountainous? In this case, the Pegasus would have an easier time being able to movie the boxes by air..
What if the boxes were too heavy for the Pegasus to lift at all? The Earth pony and Possibly the Unicorn would be fine..

 There are many things each could do to help each other with their unique abilities.. You must consider what they might do if a certain realistic scenario happened..
What some fillies were playing with a ball and it bounced into a tree and won't come down?
A Pegasus could fly up there, grab the ball and bring it back down..
An Earth pony could buck the tree and the impact would shake it down..
or a Unicorn could use their magic to levitate the ball back down..
 
It doesn't matter if Unicorns are magically and can do all these fancy spells..
It doesn't matter if Pegasus can fly real fast and do all that crazy stuff with the clouds..
It doesn't matter if Earth ponies are strong can lift 2 tonnes of rock and still be able to walk.. 
 
The fact remains, they all have their own unique talents/abilities.. but that doesn't make anypony better than the other..
Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth ponies all have a place in Equestria and live happily, they understand that they're different,
and accept the fact that some ponies are more capable in certain things that others are.. But they still all do their part
 
EDIT: To add to this, not all ponies are the best at what their race can do..
 

Everyone seems to think that because you're a Pegasus, you can fly faster than the speed of sound like Rainbow Dash..
They think that if you're a Unicorn, you're as skilled as Twilight or Starlight and can do all kinds of crazy magical feats..
And sadly, so many seem to think that if you're an Earth pony, you're useless because you can't fly super fast or do crazy magic..
 
Not every Pegasi is a Rainbow Dash..
Not every Unicorn is a Twilight or Star Swirl..
Not every Earth pony is an Applejack or Maud..
 
But Everypony has a place in the world, a Talent and/or

passion which moves them. and ponies who care for them

Well, Earth Ponies are connected to the earth, so they are stronger, faster, and whatnot then unicorns, pegasi, alicorns, and whatnot. Maybe they can do special earth abilities that unicorn and Pegasus cannot do since they aren't connected to the earth in a special way, like the Earth Ponies!

I'd say they get along just fine on their own. To a earth pony they represent their world's equivalence of super humans. Or something like that.I was gonna say that Earth ponies are like our world we have superheroes. In fiction, beings of godlike abilities things us mortals can never achieve. So we live our lives as best we can and we got along just fine. In a world of magic the earth ponies represent normalcy. Something ordinary in a world of extraordinary things. Much like real ponies wonder why they can't fly like birds. Firstly, a pony would need a body of hollow bones for wings to carry them off the ground like the Pegasus. BTW even humans couldn't fly with wings. We'd be too heavy. Birds fly because they have light hollow bones. I'm sure earth ponies rarely think of it and just do their thing. Does the unicorn wonder what it would be like to fly like the Pegasus or the Pegasus wonder what it's like to use magic to use everything... Which if you think is probably the best ability of the 3 ponies. I imagine that using magic in place of handling things using hooves #HowDoHoovesWork? I mean they hold stuff and use things without aposable thumbs or fingers at that. I recall the music video of The Magic Inside of You Literal Version. It shows Coleratura playing the piano with the added sound effect of hooves slamming on keys. I thought it was hilarious and true too. Ever wonder how Octavia uses her cello with hooves or the bow across the strings with hooves? #UnicornMasterRace.
