Opinions on swearing

I honestly swear a lot, but it's usually only around my close friends and even in front of some of my coolest high school teachers. I've also come to swear in front of my dad and brother just because I'm 18 years old, so basically I'm an adult to them and they can't really do anything about it. I still don't overly swear though just out of being respectful. Of course, I NEVER swear in front of my elders such as my Grandmas or Grandpas lol. If I were to do that, I'd probably get my ass beaten and have soap in my mouth for days.

However, I NEVER say anything like the N Word, K word, etc., basically any degenerate name for a ethnic group or race. I sometimes say "Cracka" or "Wigger", but it's very rare if I do and I can't even remember the last time I have done so lol. Saying a word like the N word just proves you're too ignorant to accept that everybody is a genuine HUMAN BEING and shouldn't be classed in a league of their own.

But, I do find it confusing that black people, like in rap, can say a word like "Nigga" and can honestly be okay with that, but when a white person uses it, it's like another 60's civil rights movement waiting to happen. If you want to show some damn respect for your own race, stop using your own degenerate words! You're just as bad as the ones that use them. :/

K word

I saw that and thought, I don't know that word and googled the K word. Now I know why I don't know that word, it's a term in South African language.

But I learned a new word, but it's a slur, and I don't use slurs, only the three main Swear Groups, the Fs, Ss, and Ds.

I really don't mind hearing curse words myself. They can sometimes be the only way to express true frustration, and make an excellent comedic tool when perfectly timed.

But personally, I never curse. Above my breath. In public.

That's really all there is to say on the matter.

i only swear when necessary, like for example, i drop something heavy on my foot, of course i'm gonna let out an f-bomb. when i'm angry, one might also slip out. but these two are legitimate reasons to swear, not like saying them after every second word

Swearing is fucking awesome. It puts a lot of emphasis on what you want to talk about. I swear like a sailor too. My mom always used bad language around me so I guess that is why I use it. But when kids watch shows where the swear words are bleeped out, they think it is fun to say it because our society and the FCC make it taboo. Well I say FUCK THAT. Say what you want and how you mean it. And in the end, ti is just a word so get over it.

Fuck.

Oh my what a travesty.

Haha.

Cunt.

I never understood why in such moments of pain that people just start cussing randomly rather than just going OOOUUUUCCCHHH!!! I've done this a couple of times. I remember I was hammering a nail into my room with my dad right near me, and I accidentally pounded my thumb in and it hurt like hell, so I just unleashed a massive amount of f-bombs. My dad just looked at me and walked out lol.

I personaly do not really care about cussing that much and I admit sometimes I do drop the f-bomb, it is all right though in my opinion, I try not to offend and I am aware of who I am around, if someone dislikes swearing (like my grandparents) I do avoid it.

This reminds me one time at my school (art school) we had an author come in and on sstage in front of 600 middle and highschool students he cussed multiple times, we all laughed so hard XD, needless to say that while he has returned only the highschoolers involved in literary arts attend his lectures now XD

My names CaptainMcMuffin, and I have an addiction to cussing like a bloody fucking sailor.

But in all seriousness, I do swear a lot, but I tend to try not to, because it makes me feel like an idiotic high schooler (which I am) and that I need to work on saying stuff like a good person. (although I almost typed sh*t instead of stuff because I'm a sailor meow)

I don't swear much in real life, but when I do, it's usually just the milder terms like damn, hell, and crap that will come out of my mouth (and it's usually unintentional). If I ever bring myself to say any of the stronger words out loud, it should really depend on the context that I'm using them in and whoever I'm uttering the certain words in front of.

However, I do enjoy casually saying a few swear words in foreign-languages, like I pretty often say the word "sh_t" in German.

I generally don't swear much, but I don't have a problem with it. I don't want to rely on it as it shows you don't have much of a vocabulary and is sometimes inappropriate. I see it as just another way of expressing yourself but there a time and place for it so it's up to the individual to determine how to say what they want to say when they want to say something

By doing so you're just showing you lack vocabulary

I don't want to rely on it as it shows you don't have much of a vocabulary

That's a common misconception. Many swear out of habit. I know I do, and it's something that has only been exacerbated by working third shift at a factory.

Seriously, the last guy who brought a part in here? I probably said fuck three or four different times in what would barely amount to a paragraph in text. ("Dude, the fuckin' boltholes are oversized, true positions are fucked, the runout's bad and the over pins is fuckin' high!")

Swearing excessively is a very adolescent form of immaturity and an absolute opposition to swearing seems like a childish lack of an understanding of human nature. Maturity comes from balance, knowing when it's acceptable and when it isn't.

A person's intelligence, personality or maturity cannot be solely determined by swearing. But if you let it, it will become a strong indicator of those things, whether true or not.

Now if you excuse me, bum bum bum bum bum bum poop.

If I'm around my brother and my friends, you'll hear the f-bomb dropping quite consistently. I'm even known to use it frequently on Skype because, sometimes, it's the only word that's apt enough for the situation. Not to mention, the words roll right off your tongue and usually require fewer syllables to convey your message. However, if I'm out with my parents or other members of my family, I do tend to avoid it unless I know they have no real problem with it. I do try to limit myself so that it's not excessive. Though, in writing, I do try to avoid a few specific words as much as possible, unless I need it for emphasis.

There is nothing wrong with swearing whatsoever in my opinion, swear words are just words. And those who think that swearing means you lack a decent vocabulary are wrong.

The best way to prove the lack of a decent vocabulary wrong is to use swear words and/or swear word combinations that aren't too common.

The reactions you get to calling someone a "one eyed wallaby fleshstick" or a "post-lobotomy baboon" are hilarious. Though come to think of it these examples aren't so much swears. I have others that are more swears, but those are long chains of swears that might be a bit much for here. Let's just say my favourite one involves lots of implied incest.

I don't really swear. When I do, it's usually playing Call of Duty (but who doesn't swear when playing that game) and without a microphone. I might occasionally swear when I'm alone (nothing to bad though) but I have never sworn in front of or when speaking to other people. I just find it meaningless. I mean, if I'm in an argument then there are better ways to express your opinions than by swearing. Not to mention it's immature.

I cuss like a sailor in person. i see nothing wrong with swearing as long as you can recognize the appropriate and non appropriate times to use it. I don't ever curse in front of customers or my family (bf's mom and grandparents are another story, they too curse like pirates). I won't cuss at a workplace until I know if they think it is acceptable or not. My former job i never cursed at because my cowoker nor the buisness owner approved of cursing. I watch what swears I use around what people as not to offened them. But otherwise I enjoy it and it is just part of me and my performance of language

I really don't have anything against swearing. I swear whenever I'm in private, playing games, or around good friends. However, I rarely swear in public around other people I don't know, unless it's a slip out. I also never swear in front of my parents.

I've never had a problem with swearing. Hell, four years in the Army, 'fuck' isn't even a word anymore. It's a comma.

I usually avoid swearing as best I can though. Not out of some high sense of making myself sound smart by not swearing but I'm very aware that not everyone wants to hear that kind of language, and it's too easy for me to not swear. But to me, they're just words. Whatever happened to "Sticks and stone may break my bones but words will never hurt me."? When did we get away from that?

I actually had a falling out with some of my family over it. I was driving across country, and was angry that I had to do so, so I was updating my Facebook status with "Fuck *insert something about the state I was driving through*" So driving through Illinois I started with "Fuck Abe Lincoln." One of my friends caught onto my game quick and started trying to guess the state I was in as my references got more obscure. But I had family members get on me for swearing so much. And I could only say, well, don't look at my Facebook page. Subsequently, I have no aunts from my mom's side on my Facebook anymore.

My mom agreed that I shouldn't swear but when I pointed out to her that I was now a big boy and could use big boy words, not to mention the 4 years in a "fuck" filled environment, she conceded that I was very much right. (God bless my parents who respond well to logic.) Now, we don't hesitate to swear around each other. We're all adults. We've all heard the words before. Why be fake polite about it? Besides, we laugh more through stories because sometimes, swear words to elicit a more humorous response.

It's all perspective and how you were raised, I think. But in the end, it's just words.

I do not mind it at all. But when you cuss me out? You will receive more cussing. But if you are saying "Oh this one bitch", "I have so much shit to do", "God dammit, I forgot my homework". That is fine. I do not have a problem with it cause I do it all the time. But, insulting people like calling them a "Mother F*cker" and stuff, that gets a little too far. I usually do that in defense.

I curse all the fucking time. I can't help it, it just adds flare to what ever I'm trying to say. I tone it down over the internet 'cause I try to make myself appear smarter but in real life, I curse at least once every 3 sentences. I just do it subconsciously.

FUCK YOU.

  • 1 month later...

So, I don't know if this is just me, but I DESPISE people who swear/use foul language (especially if they use it to excess) with a passion!! Something my wife has said once, "People who swear, are the only ones who really need a dictionary, as when they swear they are showing a total lack of a vocabulary and should have their heads examined" And I agree with her! I also feel that people that swear/use foul language show a total lack of regard to others around them!!!

What are your thoughts?
