Initiative 2045

Posted Image

Initiative 2045 is... quite a unique... thing. I'm not so sure on what to call it. It defines itself as "its own political party" according to the link above. It directs itself towards the extreme need for technological advancement to the point of humanity becoming unbound by mortality. Avatars, simulated worlds and sense, etc. It is, at least, for me, difficult to think about without getting somewhat of a headache and/or stomachache in fear of this unheard of concept. Thinking along this scale towards the future is baffling for anyone, to some degree, I would think, but do you have any thoughts on the matter? Support? No? Think it's impossible? Go ahead and share! Sounds terrible, I would hate if that was our future. Kinda also reminds me of the movie The Matrix, but that may just be me.

Now where do I get a refund for ~7 minutes of my life?

I think the Venus Project had more of a foundational background and was more focused on improving our technology to make living standard and life better. Even though some of it is proto-socialistic and has some economic drawbacks it made some good points.

This however, looks a bit, odd. It sounds too much like a society where robots or some weird immortal computer beings reign and would call for everyone to compel into something lol.

It looks interesting though.

A large majority of the matter is the fact that we're talking about 33 years into the future.

33 years in time for development in technology today isn't the same as 33 years in time for back then. I'm sure, gradually, the "creepiness" will wear off, but still, yeah. Pretty damn creepy.

Personally, I really like this idea. Maybe that's only because I actually want to be put into an A.I. body and live a non-human life. Cause being a human sucks.

friend of mine was interested in this sort of stuff when I was in school.

it's part alarmism, part messiah complex.

there's value in the idea of a civilization taking a more active role in planning it's existence beyond the near future. Particularly planning beyond the lifetime of it's citizenry. To me this seems outside the scope of governmental mandate, particularly democraticaly inclined nations.

where's that oxymoronic benevolent dictator at?

It'll never happen. I hope it never happens. Just what we need, immortality because overcrowded isn't a thing anymore. If this happens, then what? What will we try to do then? If all the humans become philosophers we are going to become a lot more self destructive. It's not like we have a purpose.

Plus as long as there is religion there will be conflict and I am very certain religion isn't going to go away in 33 or even 1000 years. There is WAY too much politics and hate in the world to see this kind of goal achieved in 33 years. What a joke.

On top of that, there are thousands of more like me that just don't give a fuck for that kind of future. I don't want to live forever. I don't want to be a robot. I don't want life to turn into a game. What are we going to do when we have nothing left to create?

Now just imagine the humans from Wall-E and what happened to them. That and The Matrix are what this looks like it would shape up to be.

Not even creepy, just unhuman. It's taking the human element out of humanity, and then what?

Robots that fight each other and clone each other just like humans would and it would turn this world either into a clone-based society of utopia or decimate the whole world into extinction and devastation.

I entirely do not like this one bit.

If I have one hope for the future, it's that religion is wiped off of the planet, much like slavery has been in our recent past. It was standard practice across most of the world for probably tens of thousands of years. Large scale cultural shifts are possible, but they do take time.

I don't mean to compare the two in content nessesarily, but rather in the grip they hold on a cultures psyche. A standard that seems self evidently valid may turn out to be total garbage with the passage of time. There's still reason to be optimistic about the matter.

I understand that my bias is probably showing, so just pretend he's still wrapped up in his bag.

Ah, but here's the catch according to Raymond Kurzweil(Futurist). Sometime after 2045, we would become a single consciousness due to technological advancement. We would in his words, become something akin to a god.

Sounds swell, farfetched by all means but swell nonetheless.

That is a good hope that you have, but religion is much more deeply ingrained and intertwined with out society that there is no chance at ditching it. It would take a lot more than a war to get rid of religion. I don't see it ever happening.

Indeed. It has even been proven that a small part of the human brain is devoted to being religious.

And honestly, i dont see whats with all the hate. The future seems quite nice to me, and i wouldnt mind living that way, though i doubt so much can be achieved so quickly. Robotics and technology are possible, but conciousness transfer in 15 years sounds VERY farfetched. If its even possible at all, I'd put it some 150-200 years from now...

Predicting when futuristic technology will be available is extremely difficult. Yes, we can predict WHAT that technology might be, but when it will be practical enough for regular use? Much more difficult, which is why I've never liked it when people put timelines on future technologies. I can see when we're on the brink of getting something to work, and the guy in charge says "yeah, probably about 5 years", but if your predictions go much farther than that, you don't have a lot to stand on.

That being said, I think it's a great idea. Comparing it to the Matrix isn't correct: the Matrix was a virtual world, while 2045 is suggesting a highly advanced, yet still physical world with artificial bodies.

Personally, I've always been interested in Mind/Machine Interfacing, I think it would be amazing to be able to have full control over machines with just your thoughts. AI is also an interest of mine, so this is a bit like a combination of the two. Also, being able to transfer my mind into a computer would be quite awesome (although, I wouldn't do it unless I could return to a body of some sort, either my own, or an artificial one).

Also, I must say, the thought of being able to tinker and upgrade my own body like it was a computer is awesome :)
