Forumer of the Month?

Someone who has been devoted, and/or posted meaningful stuff, can be the forumer of the month, having their names listed ceremoniously on the front page.

 

Well, it might be embarrassing and pointless But it could also be a huge honor. Got this idea from one of the threads.

This sounds like something that would have been brought up previously, but I'm not sure, as I haven't been here since the beginning of time.

 

I don't really see much coming out of this besides post-whoring. Although that depends on how they would be nominated and voted(?) for. If it's just through post count, then say goodbye to quality. If it's user voting, then it's impossible for anyone other than people with brony badges to win. I'm skeptical, though not completely against it.

I, for one, think this is a swell idea. I wouldn't want to be the forumer of the month, too much attention, but there are plenty of others who would deserve that title.

Hmmm... this could work, but only if it was handled very, very carefully. If it was pulled off correctly, it would be a neat way to bring the community together; if not, then a lot of infighting could result, and nopony wants that. I myself don't know how one would pull it off correctly (i.e. standards for picking forum user of the month each month, etc.), but keep brainstorming guys, maybe ya'll will come up with something.

I'd be more open to a POST of the Month, or maybe a Post of the Week. Members could send in their picks to the mods and they would pick a favorite (on merit, not the # of brohoofs or the popularity of who said it). It places the focus on content instead of a member, thereby avoiding the hard feelings and other problems that could arise with a Forumer award.

I have gone to many forums who have tried to do this sort of member recognition, and everytime it adds up in some sort of flame war or drama fest. Best to say that I don't agree with spotlighting anybody, since all the members here make up the greatness that is MLP Forums. To single out one member every month might not hold over so well with others.

Picking one person and putting them on a pedestal for others to congratulate or just pay attention to serves little purpose. It's nice on paper as an event that the forum can do, but anything revolving around popularity or singling out members generally doesn't work. We had a Member of the Month on a past Sonic forum of mine, and though it worked fairly fine, there were still plenty of complaints from people about why 'that person deserved it over this person', or 'this person doesn't deserve it at all'.

 

Everyone contributes to the board together, and while some are more detailed than others, it's all important.

 

I'd be more open to a POST of the Month, or maybe a Post of the Week. Honestly, this idea would be slightly more plausible, at least in my mind, than overall forum member of the month. However, that'd also probably be hard to not have most of the results go to the same demographic of forum members who make really detailed posts.

A forum is to discuss, not to gain fame. Everyone is equal and I don't believe that members should have a special spotlight on them. I am not saying we shouldn't recognize the good deeds people have done for the forums or other members, but I believe that bringing to much attention towards a center member could make them feel uncomfortable, or make them feel like they are more impotent then everyone.

 

To be honest I am not a big fan of the brohoof counter on the profiles myself, but that's just a personal preference.

 

If you like a member/post that's great, leave them a thank you message, or give them a brohoof on there post, but I am strongly against the idea of spotlighting members, because everyone contributes to the forums one way or another
