This is an old topic, but basically they just wanted Derpy to be uncensored in "The Last Roundup", she will still be in the show all derpy in Season 3 but only in the background and they changed her in that episode due to being offensive or something, it was mostly just a few people complaining on how she was offensive

well they changed her because

1: Her name means Retard - and if they kept it there it would result to kids being called Derpy for having a lazy eye which pisses me off

2: Rainbowdashs attitude was uncalled for

3: the was changed because the original voice actor thought derpy was a boy

 

and Bronies threw a hissy fit when the changes were made saying they removed Derpy even tho she was in future episodes and is in the bloody intro

 

(also yes i was one of the naysayer who agreed that she was offencive, even tho I fucking love derpy)

I have Aspergers syndrome and dyslexia, so basically I am what you call "retarded" who went to a special school in Ireland where I'm from when I was growing up and I wasn't the least bit offended by Derpy, what offended me was the censorship of Derpy. One of my favorite shows is South Park and they aren't that nice to retards like me.

 

Politically correct term for retard is "Intellectual Disability".

Totally agree. My brother always pointed out Derpy and I never saw her. Then when she became a roll for that amount of time it was the first time I saw her. I thought she was going to be a main character or something and I was PSYCHED. After that she was censored and back to the background.

Old old old old old news. It all started with The Last Roundup episode, where she had her own scene. Apparently in some places Derpy is considered a synonym of retarded, and with that name, her wall-eyes, and her voice, some people took offense to it. The irony is that the person who wrote the script for the episode had a mentally disabled son and didn't mean for the bit to be offensive at all.

 

What's also ironic is that no one seemed to be offended at the obviously insane barking pony from the Daring Doo episode or Crackle the Dragon.

Hello, all.

 

 

I was checking what is Derpy Hooves, and I did some research, and found that Derpy Hooves is hated by parents because they confuse her with Disabilities: if the bullies bully you because you have a disability means they watch MLP FiM.

 

Why do people hate Derpy? The she acts is just like Spongebob Squarepants, and nobody hates him.

I am not Pro-Derpy, or against Derpy, this is just something I came up with.

This is very, very very old news, bro. Incredibly old. This entire drama about Derpy happened a while back, everything got blown out of proportion, and Hasbro changed Derpy's name because the Soccor Mom Nation attacked and whined about how it was offensive. Hasbro likes Derpy from what Lauren and Tara have said, but they had little choice but to change it.

No offense, but I'm honestly way too tired of all the Derpy nonsense. This might be a blow to the stomach for Derpy fans, but I have to say this.

 

She is a background pony.

 

Why the hay should she even speak in the first place? It's Applejack's episode, her SECOND episode, and everyone just made a big deal about Derpy Hooves. I couldn't actually care less about her voice change or her appearance at all. When I saw her scene, I was like "meh" and kept looking on for the disappearance of Applejack. And yet, when her voice changed, people acted like their parents had died or something.

 

I'm speaking my honest opinion and you may flame me for it, but I won't change my mind; she's just a pony who spoke once. People made a big deal about it and started screaming like crazy. Then her voice changed, and they went "SAVE DERPY" and held a protest as if the president had decided to cancel MLP:FiM altogether.

 

Edit: So it's a misunderstanding and wasn't meant to bash disabled kids, but still. All the parents wanted to do was to save their child from being abused, and yet many of you blame them for a little voice change of a character that shouldn't even make such a big deal in the first place. I wish I had parents that were that protective.

besides raincloud was way better at stealing the spotlight than a vocally gender challenged retarded equine who's whole fandom defends her as "clumsy" in the whole ordeal but in truth truly do see her as retarded.

 

whether that would be offensive is debatable. But the double standards they showed was a far more shameful display than butthurt dumbass soccer moms, because it shows buthurt dumbass bronies. And I supposedly associate myself with that.

Just sayin', but this 31 page long thread, (Which is more like 30 or so threads all merged into one ) goes to show that this is some pretty old news. In fact, it's so old that it's at the point where I'm fairly sure no one really cares any more, if I must be honest. :3

On Topic: Derpy was never offensive to me and I just find the craziness surrounding it to be unnecessary. However I am glad to see this debate confined to one thread instead of several. Not much else to really add since so much has been said already.

Agreed. It's ridiculous what a big deal this whole thing became. I liked Derpy V1 better in the Last Roundup, for what little that is worth (she has ONE SCENE), and did not find her behavior offensive at all. Anyone who thought My Little Pony was making fun of retarded people is oversensitive or just nuts. The episode was all about Applejack and showed a very sympathetic side of her character. That's what I remember it for. (As well as poor Rarity being stuck on the rail cart with Pinkie.)

Many of you have seen this already but after watching this last night it had me wondering. Basically the creators of the show want to get rid of Derpy because people found her character to be offensive?! People are so stupid to make a big deal out of something such as this. The *save derpy* video was very sad because it also reflects to those who have been born with illnesses and defects... It's not their fault that they were born with those things... And *noone* should be treated differently just because they are considered as "different". So it got me thinking why would they need to remove derpy on the show?! P.s. people will get mad and make a big deal over the stupidest of things...

I don't think they're getting rid of her - they just haven't had a good chance to introduce her again. In the season openers, all of the background ponies were crystal ponies, so there wasn't any room to drop her in.

 

There's really no way to tell yet, but I have a feeling that she isn't gone for good.
