And to round it off, whoever runs our tabletop Call of Cthulhu game. "Okay, we enter the room-" "Nyarlathotep awakens and swallows the planet. You're all dead."

...

Well, dying in unspeakable ways is kind of the point of that game...

Honestly Psycho Mantis isn't really that hard when you realize you can quite literally duck under everything in the room. The only thing you have to be careful for is his mindwaves which will hurt you while you are on the ground. It makes the fight much longer but you don't have to switch the controllers around plus it makes you feel like a badass knowing you can punch him to death doing it the harder way.

True, looking back on it I'd much rather do that... however I was about twelve at the time with the world's shortest attention span :P

I'd love to find a PSone somewhere and replay all the games I had. Legend of Dragoon was another fun one, I think I quit in frustration somewhere fairly late in the game on some boss fight or other.

Actually, more recently, Broodmother from Dragon Age: Origins gave me a little bit of trouble on my first playthrough. I went in without any health potions and a TV may have ended up broken as a result a couple of frustrating hours later... :/

Do you have a PS3 or PSP? They got a lot of PS1 games on PSN including Legend of Dragoon and MGS1 so you could replay those if you got that. Even if you DON'T have a PSP they are likely VERY cheap these days.

I had no idea about that, might have to finally look into getting a PS3 :) I knew MS did that with a few games on XBLA, oh, the hours of fun I've had with Perfect Dark, since...

Cheers for the heads up! :)

Just be mindful of your region. A lot of games that are in the US are not on PSN for PAL regions. Spyro only recently made it to the UK while it's been on the US store for years.

Since the PS1 was Sony they have a TON PS1 games. Some gems, some shovelware, but the selection is quite large. Silent Hill 1, Resident Evil 1-3, Dino Crisis 1 and 2, Medieval (wonder if the second one has made it yet), Grandia 1, Wild Arms 1 and 2, Final Fantasy 4-9.....great selection.

XBL doesn't have near as many. It has a few PS1 games (Castlevania Symphony of the Night being the most popular methinks), some N64 games and maybe a few older games but overall it's not the best for it's retro DD Collection.

I choose every level of IWBTG and every boss of IWBTG.

FUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuUUUuuu

That game is impossibru.

Actually, Its been a while since I played that game.

Bai.

Would you believe IWBTG is easy compared to most of it's fan games? Whether they are sadistic or clever IWBTG fan games are stupid hard and make IWBTG look like Sonic 2.

Now that I'm almost done playing through Ratchet and Clank 2 after finishing the first one about a week ago, I would like to revise my previous statements:

R&C 1: Drek was dumb. Good thing I had 8 hit points, cause that shit would have been impossible.

Didn't like Oltanis. Didn't like Pokitaru, either. Kalebo III was annoying, as was Umbris.

R&C 2: Snivelak was easy as hell. Hoverbomb gun, plasma storm, gg. Boss? Jump onto turrets on tops of buildings, shoot bombs, shoot boss, win.

Grelbin sucks ass. Too many goddamn yetis, not enough bouncer/meteor gun ammo, and the hydras or whatever they are can't be locked onto.

This mo-fo from Metroid Prime II: Echos. Fucking "Boost Guardian". You can't really t-bag as Samus, but I did best I could in morph ball.

Is it really that hard?  For some reason, I got through that guy on the first try on Hard.  Granted, the first run through on normal I had to try a few times over, but I never realized so many people had trouble with it. o.O

(I'm not trying to sound braggy, but if I come across that way, I'm sorry D:)

EDIT: Forgot to add mine.

For me, I would say 'All In' from StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty on Brutal.  I can hold off the first few waves, but as soon as Kerrigan hits the field, I just start to lose.  :S

Clockwork from the first Sly Cooper is one of the only ones that sticks in my mind.  I suppose that there's also Metal Kor from Jak II, but the only reason that he was a pain was that I used up all of my ammo on the first attempt and the only other ammunition you could get was for the beam rifle (a wonderful weapon, but not when surrounded).

As for levels, the chapter in Fire Emblem 7 where you have to protect the Baron prince was awful in Eliwood's mode.  With Fog of War activated, as well as four chests with extremely rare items that it's extremely difficult to get to before the thieves raid them.  Then again, that was only in my first playthrough of the game, so my characters may have sucked.  There's also the entirety of Hector's hard mode in the same game (an absolute nightmare, never attempt it without a certain amount of insanity).

I once played a fighting game called lugaru and some wolves were extremely annoying. It is not that bad when you learn it but really HARD. Especially if there are like 3 of them in a single mission o_O

For the missions I remember a commandos 2 bonus mission that was very hard to do where you had to survive through lots of assaults by nazis. It is really a tough mission.

Hitman 2 - Mission 14 Motorcade interception.  Seriously this mission will give you cancer. I mean even though I got to the point where I need to so many times I missed shots with my sniper rifle thus not getting "Silent Assassin" rank. After making 13 levels of Hitman 2 in hardest difficulty and achieving SA I stopped playing it, really. It is so annoying I did it before but it is just so hard and kills all the fun.

Also last mission in Hitman 2 was also pretty annoying

In Metal Slug  there is always that boss that is designed to make the players waste a countless amount of quarters.

Well it's gotta be the 3rd boss of Metal Slug 6, that nigga has so much healt and range of attack that you rage and lose all your quarters.

This for starters, Drek was easily one of those bosses on my top ten dislike list

R&C 2: Snivelak was easy as hell. Hoverbomb gun, plasma storm, gg. Boss? Jump onto turrets on tops of buildings, shoot bombs, shoot boss, win.

somewhat this too though I will admit, the boss fight just droned on for too long...

Grelbin sucks ass. Too many goddamn yetis, not enough bouncer/meteor gun ammo, and the hydras or whatever they are can't be locked onto.

YES, FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME :D (this is especially true on normal playthrough)

Though, you can lock onto the Hydras if you get close enough

Also, Grelbin is a lot easier once you make it there on Challenge Mode

If you have the ultra versions of the following: Kilonoids, Tesla Barrier, Mini-Nuke/Heavy Bouncer... you should be able to beast right through it easily

I also recommend getting the Clank Zapper right after you beat the Impossible Challenge on the Joba Arena

That will be more beneficial to you than the RYNO

Probably the Temple of Time in Zelda: Twilight Princess. It's really long and spread out, and I always forget to get the big key as I go to the boss, so I have to go all the way back to the opposite corner of the dungeon, and then come all the way back. It usually takes me a whole day (Not in one sitting) just to finish this particular dungeon.

I recently got Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 for my PS2, and I still remember my first playthrough of the Dragon Universe Story mode. I was Goku and made it all the way up to the Cell boss battle, and I could not beat him after 20+ attempts. I was doing too little damage, and he was dishing out too much, it felt too unfair. So I went into the options to change the difficulty thinking that it was probably set on hard or very-hard, when in fact it was only on the NORMAL difficulty! Now keep in mind that the game has 8 difficulty levels:

Very-Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, Very-Hard, Z, Z2, and Z3.

Needless to say, I almost rage quit because I thought how could it get any harder than this? However, after getting used to the games controls after a couple of days, I finally beat Cell, and even managed to beat the story on the games hardest difficulty setting (Z3). It took sooooooo many tries, but now I can finally say that I beat budokai 3 on the hardest difficulty (and that's no easy feat)  ^_^ .

Most Realm of the Mad God dungeon bosses. Septavius the Ghost God, Arch Demon Malphas, Oryx 1, Oryx 2, etc. Event bosses sometimes too like Cube Gods, Skull Shrines, Hermit Gods, etc.

It's permadeath so it's incredibly frustrating when you die in that game. You lose all of your hard earned loot and what not.

All of the bosses and minibosses in Majora's Mask.  I really, really want to like that game:  The atmosphere is amazing, the sidequests are fantastic, and there are some truly touching stories to be found.  I just can't get over how much I detest the dungeons, and especially their bosses.

Odolwa, Wizrobe, and the King of Ikana resulted in much profanity.

That's really all there is to say on the matter.

Freaking Ornstien and Smough from Dark Souls you have to fight them both at the same time when your avoiding smough's hammer Ornstien comes up and runs you through with his spear and when you beat one the other gets stronger and healed completely

as for level it's more of an area it's Blight town from dark souls it's filled to the brim with death and despair!!

The one boss that made me rage had to be The Mother in Drakkenguard. Good lord that fight sucks. The entire thing is an endurance test, and a reflex test, and a visual test. Oh, and it all happens as hypersonic speeds. Drakkenguard can perform unmentionable acts with a dirty plunger.

Less rage inducing bosses would be Necron from Final Fantasy 9. No lead up to him, just WHAM! Giant space flea of crazy one shotting, party wiping goodness. But only randomly. Some times you can get him down on the first go, no issue. Others, he insta wipes you 50 times.

Basically, almost all the bosses in Mother 3. My style of RPG playing is basically brute force, and I attack until the enemy's defeated. The bosses in Mother 3, mostly, require you to use shields, defense/offense ups/downs and status ailment attacks. For me, this feels like a huge waste of time, and like I'm putzing around while I'm getting my ass handed to me. But I always forget that for most bosses, you need to do that. So I always die, like, 2 or 3 times on every boss in Mother 3. And it annoys the crap outta me.

The big robot like boss at the end of the second God Of War game really ticked me off.  He is just tedious and it is hard to find a weakness.  Another one I don't like is also from the God Of War games.  Hermes from God Of War 3 is one of the most anger inducing guys ever.  The main reason he's so evil is he doesn't fight you.  That's right, he literally runs away from you forever.  I was stuck chasing this guy for about half an hour while he messed around.  Finally he stops at the end and he is extremely easy to beat.  Wait, let me get this straight.  I just chased you for that long to beat you in less than 2 minutes!?  That's just mean :( .  Anyways another one and the last one for today from me is the Ender Dragon of Minecraft.  Yeah, most of you know who i'm talking about.  The thing that annoys and aggravates me about him is that it is so hard to find a weakness, a way to beat him.  Then you finally realize, hey, he's gaining health from those towers, those towers blow up when I hit the top, that damages the dragon.

If you liked that spoiler, there are pictures for all three of the bosses listed above in the one below.

I have to agree with:

Kingdom Hearts 2 Sephiroth: He was bad enough in the first KH.  How many lifebars did you have to give him?!

Any Genesis-era Sonic the Hedgehog water level: these levels stressed me out more than anything back then.  That music when your air was running out...  Then finally getting to Robotnik and chasing him up that passage while the water rises...  Nerve-wracking.

Super Meat Boy.  I don't think I need to say anything else.

The Binding of Isaac didn't get a mention?  This game kicks my ass.  I haven't made it to Mom once, ;__;

N. Boss, the final boss of Clayfighter.   I remember him being really annoying.

The final level of Ghostbusters for Sega Genesis.  It's like the last level of the Megaman games, in that you get to fight all the level's bosses again, but instead of there being a cluster of teleporters to take you to each boss?  It's a huge sprawling level with enemies everywhere, chipping away at your health between each encounter.  VERY ugly.

Xenogears had a few spots where if you'd made some poor choices or didn't grind enough, you pretty much boned your save file.  Mostly early on because of limited fuel and such for your Gear...

Monster Hunter: Pretty much every boss-level dragon.  It's annoying as hell to make your way through an entire stage, then have to follow an elaborate pattern of behavior to defeat one of these jerks, just to end up getting a few ingredients for a piece of equipment you desperately need to survive an encounter with a worse boss-dragon.  It was innovative gameplay, but after overcoming the challenge once it seems to me you should've reached the 'lol just bum-rush it' point more quickly.  The way it was, it just inflated the game's play-time and raised frustration levels.

Final Fantasy VII:  Emerald Weapon.  This dude was a pain in the butt.  If you didn't win some phat lewt in the battle arena, and dug up some of the best materia in the game?  You got your tush handed to you on a pearl-encrusted platter.

Psychonauts: The Meat Circus - Screw this level.

Oh dude, finally I found someone else who plays this. Awesome game, really. You should keep trying, you'll probably get a good combo and wreck everything.

You know those Mask + Heart monsters that spawn in Necropolis/The Depths? Not sure if you've fought this before, but the Mask of Infamy is basically a gigantic version of that. Also, once you destroy it's heart, this time you have to kill the mask too... only shooting it from the back. And it's super-wide, making it take longer to get around. And it's super-fast too. Without piercing items, it takes like 10 minutes to kill this goddamn boss.

What's even worse is that it's only a mid-game boss.

How far have you gotten before Mom?
