How Blunt Are You?

I came up with a random topic idea at work today, I have long known and been known for being extremely blunt. My big fat mouth has gotten me in trouble more times than I can count but it the only way I know how to be. I am a horrible liar and if there is one thing I can't stand it is a liar (maybe that is why I like Applejack so much) I really think that in many cases we would be better served if we were a bit more honest with each other even if that honesty on occasion can be brutal honesty. It is one of the many reasons why I am so miserable at work because I feel like I am lying to myself and it is not a good feeling ladies and gentlemen, but at least I won't be there forever. So I am wondering just how blunt is everyone here?

I would personally describe it as "I'd rather say nothing than try to talk my way around the issue." I don't usually try to soften the blow if I decide something NEEDS to be said, and I'd rather avoid misunderstandings caused by imprecise language, but I tend to err on the side of caution if I think what I have to say might hurt someone or sour a relationship. If pressed I'll say exactly what I have to say, but mostly it stays to myself.

I'm as blunt, as blunt can be, but even I understand that there's certain situations when it's uncalled for. Some people would rather have others opinions sugarcoated, while others enjoy the criticism.

All in all, I'm blunt unless I REALLY DON'T need to be. I like to be straightforward, but there are the times when you know it's just not necessary.

I'm so blunt with my conversations that once after explaining someone something I had to drive them to the hospital due to blunt-force trauma.

 

I've been doing better with being nicer but I still fail sometimes. I can act before thinking.

I'm extremelly blunt. In fact, I talk before I think, it's something I often do, and I've hurt someponies feelings countless times for being "brutally" honest and totally sincere, you can see I am not shy when it comes to speak my mind, I am a terrible liar as well and get caught very easily, that's why people think I am reliable and thrutsworthy, at least that's the possitive side of being blunt. ahah

I'm not really blunt, although my friends and family always think I have a "Secret Motive" for almost everything I do. But I'm good at lying( Not that I'm proud of it). I think things out too much to slip up as all.

I am incredibly blunt when it comes to anything. That combined with my high tendency to be negative and cynical has gotten me in trouble sometimes, but I always apologize after saying anything like that, or I do explain that it's my true way of seeing things (And it actually is).

I am a very honest person, and I have gained a reputation for it.

Because of this, people sometimes purposefully seek my opinion, because they know that's I'll tell them the truth of what I think.

 

I absolutely hate it when people lie. Even if it's just to try to be nice to someone.

Fluttershy and Rarity didn't tell each other about their true feelings and it led to a problem. I was just watching that episode a few minutes ago.

 

Though, I don't usually go spouting my opinion if I don't need to, I usually save the really negative stuff unless they ask for it.

True but that can cut both ways though, there are a lot of people that do not want to hear the truth, but I usually just say it anyway.

I say the truth as well, I just don't hold back, unless I can clearly see in their faces that they don't want to hear the truth haha!!

In fact, I can be so blunt that if you let me borrow your jacket you'll need a license to have a concealed weapon. Maybe honesty isn't always the most admirable of traits. Lot of people are like that, but to be honest, everyone has to face the truth, so being blunt isn't a bad thing.

Even then I will sometimes say it anyway, I myself prefer to hear an unpleasant truth to a comforting lie. Lies have a rather nasty habit of changing and an even nastier habit of being exposed.

Why are we all so blunt? I mean, like 80% of us are already blunt enough as it is (from what I've seen in the thread so far), with others leaning towards almost 100% bluntness (Me)! We bronies share a lot of traits, it makes me wonder sometimes @ . @

It depends on the situation. I'm Normally somewhat blunt. I don't sugar coat things. But if it needs extra bluntness I'm as blunt as getting hit the large side of a 2x4.

I see myself as blunt, no sugar-coating I say what I gotta say. Though sometimes I try to hold back but most often my foot gets stuck back into my mouth xD

I seem to display two ends of the spectrum at once. On one hand, my sense of humor, which is my most prominent trait in real life, is definitely a bit brash. Half of my family's dinner conversations are insult contests. It's never meant to really hurt, but simply to sharpen our wits and laugh. Most of my peers have severely underdeveloped skills in this area, so almost any time I get to throw an insult joke, the response ends up being much more intense than expected.

 

On the other hand, I am notoriously evasive with yes/no answers and Stellafera-style lectures sound like "I understand your point of view and it makes sense, but to me it just looks like X, even if it might not come across that way to you..." The thing is that I don't associate my lack of bluntless with dishonesty. I truly do feel that usually when someone is doing something that I dislike or makes me angry, they are not seeing how I could interpret their actions like that. I assume benevolence always, so I like to make us be able to see eye to eye and be able to understand how they saw what they were doing. Being aggressive and rough makes it harder than necessary to reach a compromise or at least an understanding.

Really, I'm only blunt if people are wasting my time. Other than that, really don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Rather tell them whatever it is in a nice way.

It really depends on whom I'm with. It really does. With certain people I'm blunt as can be, but with others I definitely watch what I say. I think most people are like that though.

I'm a bit of a sugar-coater but it depends on the situation. For example, if somepony asked if they were ugly, I wouldn't be blunt unless they aren't (no offense intended) ugly. But if its something that they couldn't hate me for, then I can be super blunt. I find it's better to tell the truth straight away rather than waiting for them to find out themselves.
