I still have not been busted, but I don't really care if I ever get busted I'll be glad to get busted by my family because then i can search pony stuff without them going "0_o"

Lol honestly I think your friend should be the one embarrassed,  I'd never just walk over to my friend naked blasting the MLP theme...awkward.

I used to hide it too, mainly from family and friends since I didn't want to deal with any teasing but not quite to your extent. Once you let other people find out about it it's not a big deal really. Maybe for the first two weeks or so they'll tease you a bit but eventually they just think of it as a part of you. And if the person actually cares about you they let it drop. For me personally I feel better about myself for not keeping it a secret anymore, lifts a heavy burden off your shoulders and you're not forced to hide a part of yourself. And for me back when I was hiding it and people made fun of the show and Bronies I ended up feeling a deep sadness and like something was wrong with me and that no one would ever accept it and that did some self confidence and self esteem damage. All of that vanishes once it's out there and for the most part everyone accepts it, you still deal with haters but you stop caring what they think and just be yourself.

Fitting in is overrated and only exists in high school, once it's over you'll talk to exactly three of the people you thought were your best friends anyway since everyone moves on to different things. And you won't even remember your classmates names anymore either so they don't matter. Better to be unique and yourself and simply live by the mantra "haters gonna hate."

Being a Brony isn't something to be ashamed or embarrassed about, quite the opposite actually it's something to be proud of. Just take a look at the community around you right now, where else would a thread like this exist where people were offering actual help rather than trolling like mad and just trying to bash you for expressing any kind of emotion? Internet's a scary dark place and I think the Brony community is a speck of light in that.

You are right it is the only spec of light on the internet AT ALL (maybe the furry community are part of that spec?) I dont know but this small part of the internet is the best.

Well, you should be glad about it in a way. Being a closet brony in JR. high sucks. (As I'm in that situation) From what people said, coming out of the stable, (Or in your case, some other method) feels great. I probably should do the same, as my two best friends, both hardcore pegasisters, wear MLP clothing in class and has many merch...

Here's what to do:

  1. Adjust your school persona. Make sure that the very sly, cunning, but somewhat playful side of you comes out in school.
  2. Stand your ground. Do something/say something that may seemingly reinforce your masculinity on school grounds like talk  sh*t and do funny things.
  3. Where a more masculine seeming MLP shirt. Some look like they're for girls even though they're for guys, but others are visa versa. For instance I happen to have a Doctor Whooves shirt that I wear frequently.
  4. Be open about being a brony, simply put

I knew how you feel, man. I had no friends during the beginning of this year, given the fact that I didn't go to the school I planned to, but my social skills barely succeeded in making a few friendships. After I made a good impression on them, I told them I was a brony. Sure, they crack a few jokes at me every now and then, but just brush it off as pre-teen to teenage ignorance because it is.

I'd say the furry community has enough people in it with similar mentalities as us to be considered a kind of brother speck of light lol. We go through a lot of the same kinds of prejudice and intolerance as they do. All I know is I've never found another group of people like this, totally different than there has ever been before.

Ugh. The whole "closet" brony idea annoys me. You like a bucking TV show, its not a big deal. Its not like you're admitting you're gay or something.

Surprisingly in this day and age you're actually teased less about being homosexual than you are for being a Brony as in recent years the Gay rights movement has caught on and more people are opening up their minds about it, simply put being gay is mostly accepted these days. This is based off of my experience as a Brony compared to the experiences of a few of my gay friends and a conversation we had about it, I can't say for sure it's the same everywhere but in my case being a Brony was met with more resistance than them being gay. But I do agree that it is silly to hide it, however some people just need time to accept that liking it isn't going to make them any less manly or anything and be comfortable with admitting it, gotta do away with old mentalities and such, ergo closet Bronies.

Ermagerd, your dumbass friend found out you like cartoons.  Big deal.

Ok, so at this point in your life it IS a big deal. I shouldn't try to talk you out of that, since time and such are always relative.  Sure, put up with whatever crap it thrown your way, but try to balance it against the joy you get from it in itself and the support you get from your peers who aren't dickheads.

It's a show, You could just use the basic excuses to mask your shame "It's funny and clever for a kids show, no really" but honestly who cares what he thinks. If he can't just shrug it off or at least just be joking in a best friend way and see it as something to pass time then he's not a very good friend.

I'm very glad that I'm a girl because, just as you said, it's easier for us. It upsetts me that you male Bronies usually have to hide it a lot harder than than girl bronies have to. It's nothing that i shout out in front of my school, but those who know about it don't really mind. The show is meant for little girls, I'm not little... but I'm a girl. It's easier for people to accept. It's sad, it's wrong, but it's true.

However, I think that your friend will accept it as a part of you soon enough. And who knows, maybe you can get him to join the herd as well? I wish you the best. *brohoof*

It could have been worse.

I mean your friend laughed and didn't seemed bent of ruining your reputation. He seemed to be just having fun with you.

A worse situation would have been I your friend was angry as hell that you could see the face turn red (over exaggeration) and started to tell other people just to piss you of.

Like I said it could be worse.

Now as for me I don't go around telling people I'm a brony. I also don't hid it as much as I used to (was a closet brony for about a month). If people find out, they find out.

Now for people who say why do people hid it, the same reason as to why some people are shy or don't have a lot of freinds. We are not all the same when it comes to social interactions. Some people are social and are okay with telling people things like this. Others are shy and tend to keep their secrets. Others are afraid of being left alone and tend to go with the flow of others to avoid being neglected. There are those who are flamboyant and just want to tell people everything to get attention

Okay the point is everyone is different. And that's okay. If someone wants to keep being a brony a secret, well let them. I can't and shouldn't force someone to come out with something like this. Do I see liking MLP as something to be ashamed of, NO, But I need to take into consideration the thoughts and feelings of others. Something like this may be big of someone else then it is to you. Now if you want advice to how to stop being a closet brony, then that's a different thing. BUT we shouldn't tell closet bronies to stop just because we may see it as unnecessary.

Man, theres more non-closet bronies than I thought... makes me feel a tad bit stupid ._.

But thats all good, gives me some motivation to go tell some of my other close friends about this. Mabye I can convert a hater or two?

Hehe, amusing story this here. But really, if my best friend went looking in my history like that, I'd be kind of angry. It's like you read one's mind by doing that. Privacy should be respected, best friend or not.

In my case, I didn't really hide it or yell it out to anyone. Of course when I watched it the first time i thought it a little weird to actually liking it. I was walking in uncharted territory, so I was being a lil' cautious with it. But that feeling soon went away. Hell, I even did a presentation about the show back when I went second year in high school. It was forgotten by the next day and I can walk around in my pony shirts without getting second looks. I often feel it's Americans in general who's making such big deal about things like this.

I at first thought being a closet brony was the way to go...but then I realized that keeping something like this a secret from your friend just wouldn;t feel right, so I actually notified all my close friends that I am what I am, and they accepted me shortly, especially since I rarely bring up the topic

1) hiding something as stupid as this makes things worse, it's only a big deal if you make in one(God, if I had $1 everytime I've had to say that)

2)He was the one standing butt-ass naked in the middle of your room, drip drying in the breeze, and holding a laptop that was playing the MLP theme song at full blast, and you assume you're the one that should be embarrassed here?

Well, what he did was quite weird.

Seriously, Going downstairs NAKED and laughs at you because you watch MLP???

"He must be more embarrassed because he just got downstairs NAKED to laugh at you"

anyway if i told my best friend, i don't think he will laugh at me.

i know him. I can trust on him about that.

but some people will laugh at him and turn his life to hell.

because some people consider "watching MLP" is for pedophiles.

and i know some people will turn my life to hell if i told them.

Ah to be young again. I find your story humorous. I dont mean to offend you but thats seriously too funny. You're Story of being busted at an age like that shouldn't matter in all honesty. Since you were younger than most bronies it is more socially acceptable. Any poking fun of you for this is simple schoolyard teasing and shouldnt be taken seriously.

He actually came out fully freaking naked just to play music?

Why don't I have friends like that?! XD

Seriously, though. You have nothing to worry about.I doubt he'll go tell someone unless he gets drastic or something. I actually told my friends about it a few days after. I got A LOT of jokes and whatnot, but since I was already used to it, it didn't bother me at all.

I wasn't in highschool when I first became one, but I wouldn't have hid it any. There's no reason to. Its just a show after all. Well, that and I didnt' fit in with most of my class to begin with. XD

Though, my class got along just well with each other, so I don't think much would have happened other than a few minor jokes. Nothing I couldn't have handled.

It still annoys the hell out me when people dare to equate admitting to WATCHING A CARTOON, with the life altering emotional trauma of "Coming out of the closet" as homosexual or lesbian. It's just a TV show. get over yourself.

Why would you worry about what your friend thinks, when he's running around YOUR house naked? That sounds weird to me. Aside from that, even if there was absolutely nothing you would be embarrassed about on the hard drive at all, why would you let someone take your laptop into THE BATHROOM? You should have just said "No. Go home if you're going to fap."

dood forget about it. so i guess now you're not cool anymore cuz you're a brony. I'm a hardcore punk rocker who drinks beer, works on cars, likes football and hockey, and watches my little pony.  if ppl start running their lip about it, forget em, cuz they're gonna do is talk. it's not like they're beat you up for being a brony and if they wanna fight... fight back brah. it's pretty unlikely, but you get my point. nehoo, it's out in the open so there's no point in hiding it. i already came out about it at a party to some friends and they could really care wether or not i'm a brony.

The way they (and I) most-likely look at it was that this show is a little girl's show (I know it's called a family show but it's targeted towards little girls) and people aren't all gung-ho to announce "HEY EVERYONE I LIKE MY LITTLE PONY" to the world or even their friends and family. It's embarassing to us I guess or we are worried what they might do or say. I don't mean this in a mean way just saying :)

I'm in grade 12X. I came out quite recently actually. I wear my pony shirt (handmade with the mane 6 headshots on the front and their cutie marks on the back) at school and in public.I listen to the music while i walk around town on my speakers. I frequently bring up the topic around school, my wallpapers are ponies and I have an equestria themed locker. I am a girl, but in my community I'm seen as a freak by the populars and the guys who are non-brony want nothing to do with me. Which is fine by me because if a guy can't accept my hobbies, I dun want him XD

Personally I think coming out is the best thing in the world ^_^Are You Proud to be a Brony PMV (Fixed Audio).mp3

Well, my brother called me and my friend gay jackasses so I came back at him and said. 'Well, you watch MLP, so obviously you're the gay one!"

Of course, I don't really think that way, but I was just trying to make him embarrassed in front of my friend, who I'm pretty sure thinks that way. Anyway, later on he just randomly blurted out that I was buying Season 1 of MLP in front of my friend. <_<

I was pretty darn pissed at him at first, but then I remembered that I had busted him first and I kinda deserved it.  :P

I'm kinda thinking she might have already known though, due to the fifty or so pony pictures on my iPod...

Other then that, I just confessed to being a Pegasister in front of my other friend. But that was because I already knew she was one as well...

I know what you're talking about though. Once my friend looked through my notes on my iPod and read a fanfiction I was writing. I don't need to tell you how angry I was...

In his defense, I did hear the shower running.... and his hair was pretty wet... and um... eh... um... yea your probably right...

I'll think about that next time >_>

I don't understand this, never will...

the whole "X discovered I am a brony, I will become a loser" thing is completelly ridiculous to me

in the first place, who gets into a bathroom with a laptop? WTF! second, he was supposed to listen to music, WTF he was doing with the internet browser, he either wanted to jack off or wanted to violate your privacy, either way. That was wrong. Why did you let him?

Where the times when finding about someone's porn history was the most embarrassing thing in the world go?

I think when your friend was laughing about it you should of said "Well you're naked in front of me so you should talk." I find it wired that you're a junior and you got laughed at by your friends yet I'm only a freshmen, and no one at my school really cares i'm a brony. I've eve gotten brohoofs when I wore pony shirts to school. When I where my rainbow dash headphones, people usually go "'Nice headphones." Don't feel too bad. Some people can just be kind of immature about finding out.

Reading this does give me some ease, so thanks.

Oh, and he did actually get me pony merchandise, just to make fun of me some more- hehe. He got me a Applejack. I still gotta tell him that my fav pony is Fluttershy xD

So... your friend went out to buy pony merchandise? That would be bold for a closet brony to do but for someone that isn't even a brony he must care about you or actually like the show even if it's just teasing.

I still don't understand why he was naked out of the shower though @_@
