Am I the only person here who's not a fan of Twilight Sparkle?

First let me clarify a few things. First, I DON'T hate her, I just like the rest of the mane six a LOT more. And second, this is NOT an "anti-Twilight" thread.

 

So it seems like having Twilight as your least favorite has become frowned upon, but why??? It's OK to talk smack about Rainbow Dash and Rarity who are my favorite and second favorite ponies respectably. I've seen many anti-Rainbow Dash and anti-Rarity threads all over the internet and I ask myself why people even hate anyone in the mane six.

 

So about Twilight, I just think she's a bit quirky for me and a bit OCDish. Now I still think she's pretty funny like how she went batsh*t insane in Lesson Zero.   And lets not forget when she beat Rainbow Dash and Applejack in a race. My point is, I don't hate Twilight I just like everyone else more (yes even Applejack).

Nah. While I like her, and she certainly isn't my favorite pony, a lot of people really don't like her. Being a huge Trixie fan moves her down my list even more then originally point. The reason I think it's frowned upon is because she is pretty much the main character, so people think you are just being hipster-ish.

 

At the same time, I get a lot of hate for saying I don't like Rainbow. She actually isn't my least favorite character. I just don't like her, and as a general rule, don't talk about Snips and Snails and my prejudice against them.

 

But, I don't like her because Trixie. So it's all good.

It's fascinating how you can have threads titled "Am I the only true Twilight Sparkle fan?" and "Am I the only person here who's not a fan of Twilight Sparkle?" almost one after another.

 

Twilight Sparkle is a bit of a "meh" character. The thing is, she's one of the funniest... but she's also one of the more boring ones to me because I have a similar personality to her, so I know how she works. Kinda kills the suspense.

Well, I'm not a big fan of any of the Mane 6 in the first place, I like Applebloom and Derpy better than all of 'em. But I can see were you're coming from. I have a friend who is exactly like twilight, very smart, talented, but he's really OCDish and often he won't be talking to me much, which makes me consider if he's actually my friend or not, but then I realize it's just him.

 

There's still more fans of Twilight than there are of ponies like Rarity, so I wouldn't be too worried if you aren't, really.

Well its kinda a hypothetical question to ask if your the only one who doesn't like Twilight. While I don't agree and shes actually pretty close to my favorite for some reasons, your favorite and least favorites aren't going to be the same as others. Because not everyone is going to like all aspects of a character and aren't going to be able to relate in all the same ways and appreciate their form of humor ect ect the list goes on.

 

I actually find it somewhat uncommon to see anyone who likes Twilight the most, but regardless I don't dislike anypony, I just don't like them as much as others.

 

As long as you accept that others aren't going to share your views then every pony here will most likely do the same . Including me.

 

I'm sure your not the only one though, no offense but thats not really a question you should have to ask Thats like my asking if anyone else has Applejack as their least favorite pony. Or if anyone has Fluttershy as their favorite. Twilight's alright enough. She's my third favorite pony (Rarity and Applejack got her beat), but that's really only because Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy seem broken to me*.  I'd probably like Twilight more if she was clusmier, and more, well.....awkward. For someone somepony who spent most of their life reading books rather than making friends, Twilight seems pretty eloquent during social interaction, even with complete strangers (but, this could be because she read extensively on the subject).

 

*The writers seem to like to undo any character development Rainbow and Flutters get whenever they come up with an episode that requires it, so it's difficult for me to get attached when I know they'll just undo it in a couple episodes. And Pinkie Pie is just so one-dimensionally "fun", her personality just feels plastic and fake.

I think alot of people like Twilight because alot of people that give this show a chance are part of the nerd culture, not saying this an insult just an observation and thus actually find her very relatable as a character. I kind of overlooked her a bit at first as I kind of have a habit of doing with certain main characters in shows you know the ones that are pretty always there. I really started to like her after having this conversation with the same friend of mine that introduced me to ponies when he asked me which pony I thought I was most like. I answered Applejack because like her I am fairly hard working and honest in many cases to the point of extreme bluntness but I still noticed some similarities between myself and Twilight Sparkle so I also mentioned that I had a little bit of her qualities too. 

 

He said that I was ALOT like Twilight and I wonder "how do you figure that I don't have any of her OCD like qualities?" He said I was fairly intelligent and have an inquisitive mind and am a pretty voracious reader all of which made me realize "oh sweet Luna he is right I am a lot like her." And I also realized that I used to have some of Twilights OCD like qualities and used to be extremely socially awkward and didn't really gain full control over that until I was almost out of high school. Applejack is still my favorite but Twilight has become a very close second.

Is it just me, or is the fact these sorts of discussions exist show how much of a goddamn amazing job the MLP team has done on both making the individual characters and making a good spectrum between the 6 of them.

 

Twilight may be my least favorite but, I do share a few of her traits. Like I'm not very social and I'm a BIT of a nerd. I'm also blunt at times, (and it's gotten me into some weird stuff) and I like to act sophisticated, like Rarity. I've worn a Calvin Klein jacket to school before which is really Rarity of me.

I HAVE ENCOUNTERED A RARE TWILIGHT SPARKLE FAN! Or the Twilightus Sparkleus Fanicous In its natural habitat!

 

Well I know THAT it's just that I've never met anyone who's had Twilight as their least favorite. Plus I've seen polls that indicate that Twilight is the MOST liked pony. Oh and please don't throw me in the bunny fire, like other people have. 

I think its just that shes had so much screentime and episodes revealing things about her character that people generally just tend to have a naturally high liking towards her. It may be that she also doesn't really have any character traits that are super annoying to most people.

 

So unlike people who sometimes hate how overly shy and adorable Fluttershy is, How Pinkie is apparently annoying at points, how Rarity can be so sassy and a diva, how Rainbow can be overconfident, And how Applejack can be a kinda low depth character.(Note these are not my personal opinions at all, but some of the common faults that people who dislike these characters normally reference.) While Twilight doesn't have anything that ever really sticks out to most people, not saying that nobody will dislike anything about her, they're just not I guess as blatant traits that show that people could dislike heavily, they're a bit more specified to certainly people I guess, and a bit more hidden.

 

It may also be due to her status as more or less the Mane protagonist, I know the others are just as important, but she does have alot of focus as her being the Mane Character for the show, Especially in Season 1.

 

Also Twilight in my opinion doesn't have a very strong opposite character of the Mane 6, alot of the time people who like Applejack don't like Rarity that much, or stuff like Rainbow Dash fans and Rarity fans conflicting due to their personalities being opposite, while Twilight doesn't really have that problem.

 

But theres I see no reason why you have to think that nopony could dislike Twilight or anything the most. Hopefully my points make sense though, and aren't to rambly by the way...

I understand where you are coming from, Rarity is my least favorite and I share some of her traits like my creative side for example which is actually one of things I do like about Rarity.
