Am I the only person here who's not a fan of Twilight Sparkle?

And it being humiliating, they got what they deserved, they chose to be cocky and tried to one-up Trixie at her own show. But yeah it wasn't Twilights fault.

After Trixie challenged them to do so.  AFTER getting booed for spending several minutes telling the town how much better she was than all of them.  After she said we should all buy her greatness based upon her ability to defeat an ursa major which it turns out she couldn't do.  A huge part of the reason Trixie's career as a show pony ultimately came to an end because she was revealed to be a LIAR.  She was revealed to be a fraud and unfortunately (due to her peronality) ponies were a lot less forgiving of her embellishments.

Glad to see someone shares my views <3 well sorta... I'm not a huge fan of twilight, however I don't hate her, I just can't stand seeing somepony who's always the most important and everything! However even within the mane 6 I have another charactor I hate even more, she just, ugh idk gets on my nerves... I don't wanna say who it is but let's just say orange isn't really my color. As for twi, don't hate her, just think she needs to be tamed down a tad

Please, I just want to confirm its Twilicorn not the adorable bookworm she was before.

But Twilicorn remains the same lovable bookworm she was before.  Look at the way she reacted to the Luna and Celestia's old library in Castle Mania.  Twilight Time she tutored the CMC and eventually almost there entire class.  Trade Ya she realized how much of her memories are linked to whatever book she was reading at the time.  She didn't do much in season 4 beyond the premier and finale but almost all of it was somehow library, knowledge, or book related.

Anyone who actually believes the "Trixie was being heckled" nonsense needs to actually go watch the episode.

I actually watched it a bunch of times, and I can safely say I feel she was.

I guess it depends on how you view it..?

OT - There's many people in the brony fanbase who don't like Twilight Sparkle. You're definitely not alone my friend.

It really doesn't, maybe watch it again?

Nah. I think I've seen it enough times to say so.

You guys can say whatever you want about that she was lying and stuff, but I think I've gone over it in a review I've done.. so meh. Not going to get into an argument.

I normally stay far away from these threads as they tend to invite a feeling of tribalism where people applaud confirmation bias more that objective analysis, but I have to say that after hiding a handful of posts something needs to be said.

Respect the individual's opinion, and the individual giving it.

Unnecessary sarcasm is unnecessary. If your entire post is just one sarcastic response, consider it not long for the world.

Stay on topic

I will simply say that kicking someone from this thread, or out and out locking it as we have done in the past with other 'I hate 'x' character' threads, is not out of the question. I personally hate doing that because it marks a failure in communication, and more importantly, it doesn't allow a critical eye to be cast where new opinions can be formed and discussed. A debate does not have to be filled with vitriol. Passion is fine, but relax a little.

Yeah, come on.  This is a kid's cartoon show, for crying out loud.  It's not life, death & the fate of the universe.  That would be "is white chocolate really candy?" ;)

I personally think Twilight was better in Season 1 & 2, when she was still "clueless nerd trying to interact w real world (with mixed success)".  I don't really like where the writers have taken the character, but it's not the end of the world.

Oh you're right...

But most of these episodes are from the first seasons, there hasn't been a single episode like these ones in season 4. :(

Because Twilight is growing intellectually and emotionally. Celestia's role of mentor is nearly complete. Like I said in a previous post, Celestia is now free to go back to being a full time ruler.

I just wanted to share my personal thoughts on the matter, albeit I generally try to avoid participating in these kinda of threads nowadays.

I found Twilight Sparkle to be a very likable character pre-Alicornification and I find the show to have a brand of purity in S1 and S2 that it frankly doesn't have anymore, and I'm saying this as someone who found S4 to be their personal favorite season.

I still find Twilight Sparkle to be a likable character, but she is frankly uninteresting to me at this point. While I can certainly understand why some would find her interesting, with the epic DBZ-like fight scenes and issues involving the fate of Equestria, that brand of entertainment isn't what I find "entertaining," per se. I enjoy character driven shows that have a good focus on character development and storyline that don't take themselves too seriously. I found S1 and S2 to be highly enjoyable for this very reason, but the last part is what I feel is bogging down the show itself.

I'm under the impression that FiM is beginning to take itself too seriously and that is causing it to lose some of its luster to me - not to say I'm not a fan, because my room is still adorned with Rarity posters and merchandise and I'm even holding a Rarity plushie as I type this, but the fact of the matter is that it's just trying too hard at this point and I'm approaching S5 with interested caution because of such.

What is driving it to take itself so seriously is the alicornification, from what I can figure. It got an extremely negative reception upon being introduced into the show for what it not only meant for Twilight's character but for the course of the whole series as well as a generally poor way to introduce the concept. The writers probably felt a need to recoup and thus, have been trying to propel Twilight Sparkle to these epic proportions such as the fight scene in "Twilight's Kingdom." They also tried to keep that same charm as before in her episodes, even though it wasn't there anymore - or it didn't feel that way to me, rather. She's not the same as she was and for good reason, as this sort of thing would realistically change someone. I applaud them for not ignoring it but I also feel that the show has been dampened by such as it detracts from the fun, friendship fueled romp that it was before.

Her Alicornification is a big issue with her character. I will say that I do have faith in the writers' ability to handle it based off of a strong S4 even if I feel it's made her less likable (not unlikable, I should point out, because I do like her quite a bit) but my biggest issue is what her alicornification represents.

It represents superiority, in this case. Twilight is the main character of the show so naturally she's going to be given ample development, screentime, yadda yadda yadda. It's just that, though - I don't like the idea of having 1 + 5 friends type deal as they've done with Twilight's character and the others, I like a 6 friends deal. I think the show would be much better without the presence of a main character such as Twilight Sparkle and relegating her into a similar role as her friends currently play. Don't make her anything special in comparison. Strip her ties to royalty and her destiny and give her the same treatment the rest of the mane 6 receive. That's the big key for maintaining quality in a character driven show such as FiM, in my personal opinion - not letting one character overshadow the rest so much. While some characters receiving more attention than others is inevitable, on shows centered around groups of people such as FiM, I'm under the impression that letting one character overshadow the rest is going to skew the general balance of things within the show, as it always has been with MLP and always will be with MLP.

I just find the fact that they blatantly skewed her to overshadow the rest of the cast to be a shame, I guess. I feel the show could be much better without a singular leading character with emphasis being placed on the group at large. One can make the case that it does with the amount of episodes being given to the rest of the mane cast, but I just think that the whole "main character" angle they took with Twilight from episode one to detract from what the show could've ended up being.

I certainly don't dislike Twilight, but I do dislike her role in the series.

honestly I always didn't like the fact that she is good at so many things and the fact that in all of the double part episodes were all of equestria is in jepordy she is the one who usally saves the day, yeah the others helped it most of them but she is usally the main focus. I kinda wish they would put all the preasure on somepony else for a change. The whole alicorn thing didn't thrill me too much either, though it did not make me that annoyed.

I do like twilight but I wish she didn't get that much attetion in the 2 part ones (in the normal episodes it's distributed fine).

I agree, and this tears me in half, but one fact is that she is always under pressure and very anxious. She should have a holiday for a while B)

As I said earlier, IMO episode 65 Magical Mystery Cure was originally supposed to be the series finale & for that it would have been excellent (well, better as a 2 parter, but still good).  The writers have, to some extent, written themselves into a corner & Twilight's Kingdom has made it worse.

The ancient Greeks believed friendship was only possible between equals & T has just grown beyond the others.  All we can do is hope the writers are up to the challenge.  Season 4 had some of the best episodes yet & so there is still hope.

Maybe more about T's problems as ruler & worrying about losing her friends

Well everyone's in title to their opinion. Twilight is suppose to be the main character though, and if you don't like the protaganist in the show, that's going to be a problem for you.

I can somewhat understand where your coming from, she can be very bossy at times and is a little inside the closet arrogant, (especially when she became a princess,) but at the same time I feel that she's also very welcoming, generous, sweet, and funny. She's probably thee 3rd funniest character, after Pinkie and Rares.

I think she's certainly become less interesting of a character over the years. Character development is great and is important for a show to keep running, but she just lost a lot of what made her likable overnight, and it wasn't built up or a long running arc for her to gain control of her obsessive nature.

As for Trixie and Sunset, I think Twilights much more likable than those 2. Trixie was a bitch who tried to kill Twilight using the alicorn amulet, and Sunset tried to take over Equestria in the dumbest way possible and kill Twilight as well.

There are some people that don't like Twilight or no longer like her because of twilicorn but even before then there were some who for their own reason didn't like her. As for me I was a bit more neutral on her when I first started watching much like I was also about Rainbow Dash but did grow to like her alot but not as much Applejack. What I didn't like however was the twilicorn thing though now I am more neutral on that sort of in a wait and see mode.

I don't dislike Twilight as a character on a show, but I feel like if I knew her or a person like her in real life she would get on my nerves. I think it's because of the leader position she has taken. I'm really not a big fan of leader types.

In some way Twilight fits that mold and the whole twilicorn thing did cement that a bit though I think there are a few traits she has which are fairly atypical for that character archetype. She was and still is fairly nerdy and bookish two traits which while not mutually exclusive with the "leader" archetype are no the first things I tend to think of when I think of the "leader" character. She is not as assertive and blunt as Rainbow Dash or even Applejack the latter of which I think typifies the leader character far far more than Twilight does even though she isn't the leader of the mane 6.

To be fair, she wasn't a showoff, but the conflict of the first two major conflicts is that Twilight is cocky as hell.

Just a guess, but wasn't she acting like that against NM? the way she acted was just as you said. But yet still does.

I wouldn't say kill is the right word, more like humiliate Twilight as she did to Trixie.
