As far as I know a 500GB Solid State Drive is about $4,000.  I know I am definitely wrong though.

Anyways I still use 30-40GB hard drives in my more used laptops.

500gb SSDs are around $400 now. Still not worth it to me personally (I could buy another top end gfx card and SLI for that), but they are finally coming down.

I make due with 500gb drives in my laptops, multiple drives in my desktop, and large eSata externals if I need more.

Woah, people still believe this? In 2013? The lulz have been doubled!

Most people believe that, the majority of people like Macs for their media work

There aren't too many producers out there who use a PC as their main computer

Though there are some who use both

I've never been a supporter of SSDs which is why I don't really take the time to learn about them.  I do use them in experimental setups but for general use I still prefer the good ol' mechanical hard drives (My ThinkPad T60 is armed with an accelemoter anyways).

Yeah, good 500GB SSDs generally run between $300-$500.

The funny thing is, the cost to upgrade (as in, replace the current 750GB SATA 5400 RPM drive) the Macbook Pro that Krystal mentioned with a 512GB SSD is $900.

These people also aren't that great with computers, apparently.

Krystal's post got me intrigued, so I decided to hit up Apple's store to see what all the rave was about. Unless I'm looking at the wrong one, The i7 is weak (2.9GHz), and contrary to her claim, it comes with Intel HD Graphics 4000. This thing would run like utter garbage. Massive render times, cranked buffers being a must for any DAW, and don't even think about gaming on anything more than the lowest settings on this "beast". For the price of that Macbook Pro I could get a 17" laptop with specs that would make that "Pro" cry.

Yup, you're looking at the wrong one. 15" versions are the ones with the GT650m and stuff, and she was specifically referring to the retina ones.

And that $900 for the 500gb SSD is nothing new, ALL PC manufacturers charge outrageous prices on upgrades because they can get the common folk who don't know better. Those of us who do, buy basic setup and go to newegg to do it ourselves.

Well, she mentioned a 13" inch display with an i7, though. The only one I saw that matched that criteria on this page was the one I linked.

Good point, I overlooked the 13" part. Yea, they don't offer any nvidia chips in a 13" anymore. Kind of a shame, I bet they could pull in even more people since they seem to think the 13" was the way to go and no one wanted 17" rigs. >.<

I'll never forgive them for that. 17" is the sweet spot IMO.

Now, everything in OS X is all "shiny" and "boxy.", and reeks of influences from that garbage they call "iOS." (Forgive my gratuitous quotes and vague descriptions) The hardware is "razored" and the lines are too defined. Not to mention, anything they come out with is instantly cool and popular, no matter how little of a change it brings. Call me stuck in my ways, but I miss the Apple of 10 years ago - or s

I guess you could say I'm for PC's these days, though nothing from Microsoft nor the OEM's particularly gains my affection. I just hope they take their own direction, instead of what seems to be the trend of copying Apple's every move. (I'm looking at you, Windows 8.)

Microsoft is hardly copying Apple by making Windows 8. Having touch functions does not equal to copying Apple and I don't understand how Apple has anything to do with the new Start screen. I think they have taken their own way if you think interface design-wise as Apple mostly use shiny/rounded stuff and Windows 8 has a very minimalistic and square feel to it (which I honestly prefer, also over Windows 7)

Apple is the definition of simple. For example, when you first open the box containing an iPhone 5, this is the first thing you see: img-1150364-2-tumblr_m92nk4iv4S1ra3i1eo1

Same thing for almost all their products. Easy to learn, easy to use. I'm guessing you just didn't have the attention span to take the time to learn. They have dozens of different ways to do different things so you can do whatever is the best way for you or at the time.

I'm not saying that they're hard, I'm pretty sure that they are easy. I'm saying that there's too many functions for me. And alot of them I don't even want or need.

Also, did you really had to insult me? I just was speaking from personal experience. <_<

*rolls eyes* I know you're just being witty, but I'm pretty sure pieces of virtual data have nothing to do with those claims.

OT: Makes me think though... Does this mean I could technically say that my 40yr old Jeep with a gas chugging V8 is more ego friendly because in the future it will rust down completely since there isn't any plastic and newer cars will leave behind a lot of large plastic parts?

I choose pc not because its better or macs are rubbish or blah blah blah. I choose pc because its cheaper and macs are expensive. The pc Im using now cost me in total £115 to build and its pretty high spec using only second hand junk I found on ebay. Macs may well be the better computer but I will never know and I dont care since I dont see any point in spending that much money on a computer.

Most people aren't good with computers.  Most people just want the simplest and fastest way to do things.  It's not just with computers.  The world is slowly dumbing down due to these big companies making simpler and easier products to use.  My Mom has trouble connecting her laptop to dual screen on a PC and complains that she wants it simpler even though it's already straightforward.

Easy is good for business.

You also have to remember 15 years ago computers were mostly used by those that had either a want to game on them or do business.  With the internet computing is now for everyone.

Same thing applies to MMOs, etc.

I've used Mac, PC and Linux.

I have a self built gaming PC, a 4th gen iPad, an iPhone 4 and a MacBook Pro at my disposal and I am yet to find a single thing that mac does better than PC.

Want an elegant looking OS? Customise your Windows

Power to cost ratio, my PC cost £1,800 to build, the equivalent specs (slightly lower spec in fact) mac costs twice that.

Compatibility, name one piece of software that is mac exclusive with no windows equivalent.

Every mac fanboy I encounter always throws the "macs are the best at video and picture editing" it took 10 mins to render a 3d image in photoshop cs5 on my mac, it takes about that long for me to render a full length 1080p montage on my PC.

The only thing I think apple do well is their iTunes and portable devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod)

Gonna have to side with PC's. I've tried a Mac once before and it just frustrated me.

Here is what I say:

It depends on what are are going to do with them.

Get a PC if you are a gamer and stuff

Get a Mac if you want to design or create stuff, like with Photoshop, or video editing, or animation, et cetera.

PotatOS!

I actually prefer PC though. Not because I'm a big gamer, but because... Mac sucks. I've tried using Mac's, on more than one occasion. I never really liked them...
