How do I ask my parents to get merch?

My parents already know I'm a brony. They're pretty okay with it, they just said as long as I don't like get obsessed with it and like watch it every day (oooooooopppssss???). They know that there are other people watch it that are teens/grown-ups, they don't know the word "brony" though or what the fandom is called anyways. But I'm too young to go to any store by myself, I don't have a car, and I don't have a credit card (so I can't buy something myself). FYI I'm 13, if it helps though I could pass for 16. So how should I ask them to get like shirts and stuff? I don't want any toys (yet :I) though.

Though I do have a plan: Next time I go to the mall with my mom (yay, 2 hours of pure fun. *sarcasm*) I bring money (for the shirt) and ask if I can go to gamestop (and bring my gamestop giftcard too, I have one) by myself and tell her that I'm responsible enough. If she says yes (there's a 60% chance this will happen), I'm pretty sure there is a Hot Topic in my local mall. I could go in there and get a pony shirt, run to gamestop, get a game that's like, not-rated M, my mom would freak -_-, put the shirt in the gamestop bag, and then walk back to my mom.

Tell me if this is a good plan please? If it's not just remember I said I had A plan not A GOOD plan :P

Well I'm also 13 and strongly considering telling my family I'm a brony quite soon (please message me telling me how you did it :3 ) but wouldn't they see you wearing the shirt? Really the only thing you could do is just buy it for yourself. If you just say "Can I go to hot topic and buy stuff with my money" then if she lets you go then you can buy it. However she may ask what you want to buy but she'd find out when you wore it anyways right?

Here is a comprehensive guide to asking your parents for pony merch, in a step-by-step guide.

1.) Approach parents

2.) Open Mouth

3.) Mouth move in such a way that you form the words "Can you buy me (Insert desired item here)"

And you're done!

This.

If you are not able to move your mouth, or you are scared of your parents for some reason, you can always write it on a piece of paper.

If your parents are intergalactic space demons, you may wish to acquire some protection before attempting to ask them anything.

If they're actually cool with you enjoying the show, why would they be against you buying the merc?

I mean, is it really expensive or something?

Maybe, buy a few sizes above yours, expecting yourself to grow into it.(you're still 13...)

(this is actually always a smart move for buying designer shirts you want for thrills)

No words are greater than mine and every word already is, Hypocrisy.

I say that I can accept that everyone is of their own decisions.
Simply so that I may judge you all the way I want through the way you think.
When you proclaim that all have their right to opinion, understand that you are placing this claim above their opinions.
Hypocrisy isn't a sin. It isn't rude. It isn't wrong. It isn't right.
It's how we live our lives, down to every word spoken.

Just ask them as simple as that! Do not go up to them however in a weird way though just ask em one day if could get a shirt. But it is ultimately up to them whether or not you will get the shirt since they are paying it for you. Or another thing you could do is just save enough money until you can buy one.

I would just come out and ask if I could buy it. Or actually, if it were me I would just say "I'm going to Hot Topic to buy a t-shirt.".

I don't see why a 13 year old couldn't go in and buy a G rated (Is it still called G rated? I'm old, I don't know) t-shirt. I was buying clothes without my parents there to help when I was 13.

Well this really wont help but: My brother found out first, then in the car (with both my parents in it) he yelled (insert my real name here, I won't tell anyone ) WATCHES MY LITTLE PONY!!! So if you have a brother, and he's a giant dork, your good. Also, your parents would probably be okay with it, also that's a great idea, I'll do that.

I have a little brother who is an 180 lb linebacker. He sings winter wrap up in the shower and buys ponies and such. The trick is to be confidant. He just goes up to my mom and is like "I need to go to the store to get the new royal wedding set." If you act like there is nothing to be ashamed about (which there isnt) and extrude confidence then all will go well.

  • 8 years later...

I think the easiest way is to ask your parents directly, to help. Trying to hide such a thing might get worse. Having plans are cool and all, and they sometimes work.

I remember when I was at Disneyland with my older brother and his girlfriend that I wanted to buy a toy that looked very much like something not meant for me. I was thinking what to do, almost overthinking it, until I just had to tell them the truth at the last day, at the last visit of that store. And they didn't even bother to care it was odd. I got what I wished for. Being brave and ask is a good thing!
