mega thread Favourite Musicians or Band

As promised, here's my favorite artists list.

1. Devin Townsend

Why he's my favorite:

He has the ability to make his music into whatever he sees fit, whether it be bludgeoning, ethereal, or uplifting. He's the reason I usually play in open tunings when I play guitar, and always inspires me to push my abilities forward.

My favorite track by him:

There's so many, but I have to go with the title track from 2011's "Deconstruction."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS2kKDdFGmM

Why it's my favorite track:

It's one of his most bipolar and all-over-the-place works, and yet it has a message that ties in so well with the album's themes of the beauty in the pointlessness of life.

How long I've been listening to him:

Two extremely rewarding years.

Not sure if you know this, but Devin Townsend actually checked into a hospital for bipolar disorder some time during his career.

And coincidentally, I was just listening to Deconstruction a while ago today, because it's beautiful. Would you know if he also used Open C in SYL?

BUT I DON'T EAT THE CHEESEBURGERS GUISE I'M A VEGIMATARIAN-

Because I'm a totally awful person, I'm quite reluctant to listen to 'original' version of a song and instead much prefer remixes, especially Dubstep, Moombahton or Glitch. My favorite artists currently are Taylor Swift and the amazing, gorgeous and perfect Ellie Goulding.

Taylor Swift:

Singer-Wise:

  • Amy Lee
  • Jonathon Coulton
  • Chester Bennington

Band-wise:

  • Poets of the Fall
  • Linkin Park
  • Fort Minor
  • Evanescence
  • Within Temptation

Those are the main ones for me personally. I listen to bands more than regular singers, in all honesty.

One of my favorite singers is definitely Marco Hietala. He has sung in two of my favorite bands: Nightwish and Delain. His voice is incredible. Nightwish is a symphonic metal band, and Delain is a symphonic/gothic metal band. Marco does clean (normal) vocals in Nightwish songs, and his voice is beautiful. He did the harsh vocals on Delain's album Lucidity very well. The fact that he can do both harsh and clean vocals so well is impressive.

Another one of my favorite singers is Petri Lindroos. He has done the harsh vocals for the melodic/heroic death metal band Ensiferum since 2004, and his voice is incredible. He was the harsh vocalist for two of my favorite albums by them: From Afar, and Unsung Heroes

In addition to them being my two favorite singers, here is a list of my favorite bands:

  • Ensiferum (melodic/heroic death metal)
  • Nightwish (symphonic metal)
  • Delain (gothic/symphonic metal)
  • Eluveitie (melodic/folk death metal)
  • Finntroll (melodic/folk death metal)
  • DragonForce (extreme power metal)
  • Amberian Dawn (symphonic metal)
  • Blind Guardian (power metal)
  • Stratovarius (power metal)
  • Leaves' Eyes (symphonic metal)

My favorite singer of all time has to be the Demon of Scremin', the one and only Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.  To me, this guy's voice is truly one of a kind, I still have yet to find another singer like him.  Also, his range is just great, I think his highest note ever was an E6, hit in the song Crazy.

My favorite band is also Aerosmith, they have never disappointed me, and I love their sound.  Along with their hard rock songs, they also manage to turn out amazing power ballads like Crazy, Angel, and I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, as well as sweet blues rock tracks like Hangman Jury and One Way Street.  I feel like I'll still be listening to these guys years and years from now, to me, you just can't get any better.

My favorite singers? Let's see...

Paul McCartney, of Beatles fame. Holy crap, is he an amazing singer. He's got a big range, fantastic voice, and pure passion. He is, in my opinion, the best singer ever.

Brian Wilson. His high falsetto made many Beach Boys songs, and just made many albums and songs even better.

I can't say my favorite musician, because I've never been in to all the technical stuff.

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?

Just a friendly question. :) Because, you know, music makes everyone happy. So what is your favourite singer, or group? And what is that special music that makes you feel on the cloud 9?

I personally love Bridgit Mendler's cover, Starry Eyed.

Because disney singers ftw XD

Here's the link, if someone wants to hear it.

@@TheSweetieBelle,

Each time I listen to that song I cannot resist going there:

*ATTENTION* This video contains just about enough of daily Rarity dose for a normal person.

Back to the topic though:

1. Favorite:

That would be a female singer named "Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll".

2. Why?

It's actually interesting because I like her a lot for her charity work and extremely positive attitude towards the world and her fans. Had an occasion to attend one of her concerts, and it was really something worth mentioning. Constant contact with the crowd, constant flow of energy.

More than that, I like how she doesn't have to expose her body, act like a psycho, dress in weird way or anything similar to be popular.

For a reason a bit closer to the ground, I guess I like her voice actually. It sounds quite soothing in some of her less known songs. Plus, I adore Spanish language. So yeah, these would be reasons I guess.

3. Favorite track:

Ojos Así

4. Why is it favorite?

This song is so full of energy that it gets me pumped every time I listen to it. I simply enjoy it that much. Plus, it connects both of her parents' home countries music :>

5. How long have you been listening?

I'm not sure... I believe it would be somewhere around 13~14 years already. And I'm still not bored with it, what's an achievement.

Imagine Dragons- Imagine Dragons is an American alternative rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. They gained exposure after the release of their debut studio album, Night Visions, in September 2012. Since then, they have gone on a world tour, and gained exposure on major late night shows like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Billboard magazine named them "The Breakthrough Band of 2013", and Rolling Stone magazine called their single "Radioactive" "the biggest rock hit of the year.

The Black Keys- The Black Keys is an American rock band formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). Beginning as an independent act, the duo forged a raw, blues rock sound for itself with its early albums, which they recorded in basements and self-produced. They eventually emerged as one of the most popular garage rock artists during a second wave of the genre's revival in the 2010s.

Area 11- Area 11 is a gaijin rock band from Bristol, England. Area 11 currently consists of four members; Sparkles*, Alex Parvis, Jonathan Kogan and Leo Taylor

Anyway, my turn:

1. Your favorite musician?

Icelandic singer/songwriter Bjork. Her name is supposed to contain an umlaut over the "o" but I don't know how to add it.

I forgot about Bjork, I should probably re-listen to some of her albums again, I used to listen to her all the time.

Forgot to add The Chariot, My Bloody Valentine, Portishead, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Deafheaven and Crystal Castles on my list too.

Aloe got list a few and my favorite songs from them:

Imagine Dragons- Monster (come on, it was made for friggin' Infinity Blade III, it's gotta be good!), and Radioactive.

Skillet- Falling Inside The Black, Whispers in the Dark, Looking for Angels, Hero, Sick of it.

Aviators- Constellations, Far from Me, Open Your Eyes, Storm, Worlds Collide, The Path Home, Reflections of a Dream Parts 1 and 2.

We As Human- Strike Back, Dead Man, Fly, Burning Satellites, Take The Bullets Away, We Fall Apart, Zombie, I Stand.

And that's all I can really put for now. :)

Did you ever listen to Biophilia? It's the one Bjork album that I just can't get into. It almost comes across to me as self-parody, but most other fans seem to love it.

BTW I approve of your tastes, especially Portishead, Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin.

Hard to choose...AC/DC, Metallica or The Beatles.....I've got quite a few "Fave" bands...it's hard to pick just one....But it would probably one of the three I mentioned previously.

Musician wise, I like Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Mozart.

Fluttershy's lover, she's my waifu. I'm in love and obsessed with her, she's given me shyabetes. *Hnnnng*
