How important are other people's comments on threads to you?

It all depends on the thread for me. If I feel strong about the topic, I will most likely read the first few and the last few pages.

I don't click on a thread unless the title catches my eye. When I do, how much of the thread I read before posting depends on the length. If it's under two pages long I read it all. If it's longer than two pages but not too much longer I read the first two pages and then skim through the rest for a while until I get bored or nothing new is being said, then I skip to the last page and read it before posting my own thoughts. I usually have an idea of what I want to say immediately after reading the OP but I want to make sure it hasn't been said yet. Reading the thread usually doesn't change what I have to say. I am open to changing my opinion based on what others have said, it just rarely happens.

 

If a thread is really long and deals with a sensitive topic (like debate pit) I might just avoid it because I don't have the energy to read the whole thing but I also don't want to get into serious business without knowing the whole thread history. If it's long but the topic is just something like "Do you like Twilight's new crown" then I'll post without reading it all.

When I was new to the forums a lot of posting was done as a means of leaving the blank flank rank as quickly as possible. Now though post count really doesn't concern me at all. I try to post only in topics that have at least a flicker of seriousness in them. 

 

Any comment of yours concord where I see the "Hello" at the start I'll usually read.

Before posting on a thread I like to read a few posts from the thread. If it's a large thread like over 100 I will just read a few on the last page. Below that will just skim through all of them. I also usually try to post and threads that interest me. I don't really care all that much about post count.
