No dude, back in the 80's there was no internet, you had to go all the way to record store to get an album, there was the Cold War, homophobia was worse back then, cell phones were huge bricks, AIDS, etc. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE BACK THEN INSTEAD OF NOW?

Ok when you say AIDS what are talking about specifically, because there are AIDS now, and also back then Reagan was president and I would rather have him than obama

AIDS was much worse back then, it's more controlled now. Look, I don't like Obama either, but I'd rather have him than Reagan. *sigh*

I love 80's music.    I listen to that and country mostly.    My cd collection is basically 80's (some 70's) and country, lol.

Some of my "80's" music did some or a lot in the 70's also... sometimes 60's: Meatloaf, STYX, Fleetwood Mac, Queen.. those are just 4 examples.

I don't care for a lot of "today's" music... I do like some... especially in Country.

Oh, you're not alone, brutha. I too, am a teenager who prefers older music over new. Altough, I listen to House songs from the mid-90's to early 2000's. :P

Also, today's music may not appeal to you, but it may appeal to others and there's nothing wrong with that. People have their own rightful opinions. :)

But Daft Punk is still way more better than Skrillex!

Hey, Queen is cool, and I don't let what other people think or like affect what I like.

But I haven't read this topic in forever, so I have no idea what's going on in it. I posted on the first page and then forgot about it. Oh well, more power to everyone on what types of music they like.

Queen are good, I'll give you that.

Long story short, I got into a crapload of debates with other people who won't listen to anything made after 1990.

Seriously? Well, they're allowed their opinion, but I disagree with that sentiment wholeheartedly. I'm guessing they're saying that everything after that was crap, but what they fail to realize is that all decades had crap music, and they're just listening to the good stuff from before the 90's.

80's pop has always been my favorite section of music. Land Down Under, The Final Countdown, Working for the weekend, Don't you forget about me, ect. They are almost always playing in my study (otherwise some classical).

I was trying to get to stop whining about how "bad" music is today. What I was telling them was to stop whining, and look for new music that they like, to listen to.

Precisely! Instead of complaining, they should seek out good music from today and enjoy it. After all, everything before the 90's is a limited supply, while new, good music is coming as we speak. Plus, they're missing out on a lot of good stuff from the 90's and 2000's.

I totaly love the 80s.  That was the age of hair metal.  I highly doubt that you are the only brony that listens to 80s music more than the music of today.

What's funny is I've found that most of today's music sucks (at least the stuff that's popular at the moment), so I've gone as far back as the 40's and 50's for swing and jazz. Although my heart will always return to ska, even the modern bands are good in that genre (with some exceptions, of course).

But yeah the 80's had some awesome tunes, I just lived through them so I kind of cringe a little when I hear them lol.

I think it's overrated. It had some nice music, I'll admit, but a lot of crappy ones as well. Glam rock is something I despise and all that cheesy pop. *shiver*

I prefer music from the 90's all the way to this day, but mostly music from 1998/99-2008 or somewhere around there. That's when Dubstep and Hardcore Techno/Gabbar was it's best

I feel left out, because I'm a brony that seems to prefer 80s music over today's music. I see most of the brony musicians playing out today's music genres like dubstep, electropop etc.

I would prefer the Pet Shop Boys over Lil' Wayne.

I mostly like New Wave and Synthpop from the 80s, although I do listen to progressive rock, rock and R&B from the 80s and early 90s.

Am I the only one or is there anyone else that shares the same music taste as me (or at least similar)?

P.S. Also more weird is that I'm 13.

I like to listen to 80's music sometimes like the bands I listen to are Bon Jovi Def leppard  and others I also listen to some 90s songs

Derpy is gonna derp so better watch out :P

IKR, the glam bands from that time sucked. I can't even tolerate stuff like Def Leopard and Poison. It's too cheesy, at least the 80's gave us The Pixies and Slayer.

As much as I have some mainstream music in my playlist, I appreciate a lot of 80's music and I have 200 songs from that era. So, you're not the only fan here! ;) I love the era of the 80's, I wish I lived in that era. I know how you feel, but there's always time to appreciate. :)

I'm pretty sure electro / electropop was around in the 1980s.

Well, anyway, I was exactly like you when I was 13, until I realized that there's a lot of awesome music that comes out today as well. You just have to look. Not that I don't like 80s music (I do); I just don't have a preferred period of music. I think the quality of music has nothing to do with when it was released.
