mehguy22 64 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 I think that judging someone by their avatar is ridiculous. Fortunately though, most people don't do that. Like me. Me, I don't judge. If an avatar is bad, I look away from the avatar and at the post, because the post says more than the avatar. Signature created by myself! Lunas Husband 2,777 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 Not at all, I don't judge any pony for any reason at all, sure I see the picture and I think oh they must like this pony a lot or oh that's a cool OC, etc but never do I think, oh they have this picture up they must be mean or etc etc "Does not matter what they say, my sweet love! I love you! and always will." ~Princess Luna
Jessper 735 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 (edited) Well, sometimes it can't be helped, but unless the avatar is something particularly extreme or very cool, I try not to. Hmm, unless people use their photo as an avatar, then I do judge, silently. Generally tho, I just spend a second thinking "That's nice." / "How generic." / "Oh how splendidly ugly." and that's it. Scrumpy 159 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 No I don't judge people by their avatar, but it's odd how after judging the content of their posts their avatars take on a different context. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Scrumpy is cider made in the West Country of England,[1] particularly a band through Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, though it may also be found in Kent, Sussex and East Anglia. The term is especially used to distinguish those made locally in smaller quantities and using traditional methods from mass-produced branded ciders. Vay 175 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 I tend to warm up to people with Applejack avatars more easily. I know it's bad but it's my bias! I don't really judge a person by their avatar so much as their post but I do appreciate awesome art in an avatar and I personally am very picky about the avatars I use myself. SUPERFOX5 387 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 (edited) This is pretty much YouTube comments in a nutshell. Whenever some troll on YT sees someone with a MLP icon for their account, they're immediately like, "ERHMAHGERD, GAY." This is why I try to keep the same avatar on my YT channel. BTW, nobody has judged me yet on avatars I use. Also, I don't judge others no matter whatever the situation is. Ihei 713 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 I hate to admit it, but yes. Anypony with a blurry avatar, to me, I judge people by how long they've been on the Forums. So I can tell they've just joined. But I like everypony with a nice avatar; it expresses their personality.
Haven Celestii 9,385 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 I do to some extent. If its a horrible ponycreator or just straight up crap OC then yeah, I might not read their post, take what they say as I should, or just downright laugh at it and then move on while fully disregarding their post all together. No, I'm not a horrible person for this~ lol Other than that, I think thats all I really do when I see one's avatar.
SCS 7,537 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 I suppose I judge people by their avatars in a minimal sense. Someone's avatar is the first impression I get of a person on this site, in addition to their username, before I read their post. While I can get some ideas about who they are based on that first impression, I would certainly not make any conclusions based on it. An avatar is only one out of many ways a person represents themselves. We are all complex, multifaceted beings.
MichaelxXxTrixie 433 July 27, 2013 Share July 27, 2013 Yes you can judge a lot by an avatar, after-all it's suppose to be sued to represent your online persona. So if you had a picture of a Warhammer 40k Dreadnought ripping Pinkie Pie in half I'd assume you don't like Bronies. If you had guns you like guns, if you had ponies you like ponies. Thanks to the lovely Pink Mist for the magnificent signature!

Carbon Maestro 1,003 May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 Well if have a mare or female character in the logo, I may or may not assume you're a girl because a lot of boys do like female anime characters (See Homura, Fluttershy, etc). It'd be really hard to make those assumptions. "You learn a lot about people when you listen to the songs that mean something to them." Taviscratch 453 May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 (edited) I would say that more often than not a person's avatar will actually give an accurate representation of their personality. For instance, a person pulling a stupid duck face will most likely be stupid. I know most people are all "don't judge a book by its cover" etc. but I've met enough people to know that first impressions are a lot more accurate than we might want to believe. Take my avatar for example: it is an OC made on General Zoi's pony creator, there's no background and the OC is pulling a rather arrogantly smug expression. The fact that I have my personal OC instead of my favourite MLP character shows that I am either somewhat egotistic or that I cannot decide on my favourite character. The fact that I have not added a background or drawn my own OC shows that I am pretty dismissive of effort where effort is not due. My avatar is not important to me in the grand scheme of things. It could also show that I am rather lazy. Also, it shows that I do not care what other people think of me since I have not gone to great lengths to acquire a particularly awesome avatar. The expression was not a conscious decision at the time but it does reflect my arrogance and my occasional tendency to be a little condescending in arguments. Maybe I'm reading too much into my own avatar but there you go. Most importantly is grammar and spelling, though. I will allow the odd mistake here and there (I've probably made some in this post) but repeated errors, especially from those who are apparently educated, are unforgivable. The worst for me is when people do not use punctuation (there entire post is one long sentence) and they repeatedly throw in the word "like" after every other word. It is annoying and makes you appear stupid. Anyone who posts in different coloured text (i.e. purple) appear, to me, to be immature and/or trying to be "special snowflakes". Thrashy 2,800 May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 (edited) A little bit. Not on any major personal basis, mind you, but a member's avvy does, to some small degree, influence my thoughts on what kind of person they may be. Hell, just take a look at my avvy. I'm sure a lot of you would come to the conclusion that I must be some cocky, sarcastic, possibly douchey wise-ass based on my avvy, right? And it's not like I'm actually that way, right? ... Right. :comeatus: Edited May 2, 2014 by The Thrashy One
crazitaco 596 May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 (edited) Well, yeah, kinda. Its not really something I consciously do though. Avatars are the closest thing we've got to a face on the internet. They can actually say a lot about who you are. Take mine for instance. I drew and colored it myself in my own sort of style. One can conclude that I probably like to draw. And that the way my avatar looks is important enough to me for me to take the time to draw it myself. Its also based on my OC that was based on my username, interestingly enough. I guess that mean I see my OC as a sort of representation of myself in a way. Lightning Bliss 1,674 May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 Well the saying goes "Don't judge a book by its cover", don't judge an MLPF member by their avatar lol. So no I don't, I don't like to assume a person when I first meet them, unless of course trusted friends informed me about them and to look out for certain quirks. I'm just a silly little alicorn, trying to get by in the fandom ^^ The Lightning Bliss Show Lightning Bliss DevianArt

Delernil 952 May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 Yeah. It is after all a representation of you. Sort of like a face-to-name type thing. But I won't be rude or anything just because of your avatar and I don't really take your avatar into consideration, but yes, I will go 'this person seems...<adjective>.' To be fair, I've also seen some of the least representative pictures. Members who post the nicest things could have a darker pic, and vice versa. I only love you platonically. As in plate tectonics. As in two bodies sliding against each other. <3 -Makusu

Do you imagine them speaking in a certain voice or...? It depends on the tone of their comments, but most of the time it sounds kinda same-ish. When the 0avatar has multiple characters, I usually imagine the most prominent one speaking (in your case, it would be that odd-looking Rainbow Dash thing).
