TheOneAndOnly543 16 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 (edited) Especially post movie...It seems like almost everywhere online I lately I see people that are always comparing SpongeBob to My Little Pony FIM. Saying it has better dialog, better characters, story, etc. Out of all the cartoons that people compare SpongeBob to...I've seen this one in comparison the most right now, most of the time making SpongeBob seem inferior and My Little Pony FIM superior. I don't get why people do that. I just find the goodness in both shows instead of criticizing them for their faults. My Little Pony is amazing because after years and years of almost no one hardly cared for it, but when Friendship is Magic came out it became very popular in a short amount of time, which is great for a cartoon series. This series has made a platform all by itself, instead of relying on the whole entire My Little Pony franchise. That is simply outstanding. SpongeBob SquarePants is also amazing because SpongeBob is an iconic worldwide phenomenon. He isn't some temporary fad like some people believe. The show is still good. That's why it's still on TV. SpongeBob has been on TV for about 14 years now, and that is very difficult to pull off (there are other shows, but lets stay on topic). Sure, some of you may hate every single new episode, but you know what? NO TV show is perfect. But SpongeBob is still close too it. You can't expect ANY show to be a 100% A+ all the time (Not even MLP FIM). Because if you did, then that's a dishonest way of enjoying a show. Blindingly worshiping a show is NEVER good. Because one little thing that you don't like will make you give up on the show completely, not living up to "your" expectations. And it doesn't matter if you like SpongeBob or not, you still have to respect that longevity. If SpongeBob ended like, tomorrow, most people's hearts would stop so to speak, and some won't realize what's good til it's over. And even though I ALWAYS loved SpongeBob, I have to agree with the fans on SBMania that SpongeBob is getting like Seasons 1-3 quality with Seasons 8 and 9. The new theatrical movie coming in 2014 will also hopefully be another highlight of the franchise, refreshing it. Smoothie 4 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 I used to watch Spongebob Squarepants every morning back in the days and i still sometimes do, but i met Friendship is Magic and got stuck with the show. I think there is no way to compare Spongebob with FiM... but i didn't really know that so many bronies hated Spongebob. I would really like to see some other opinions because i never heard of this phenomenon. ~Made by Kyoshi

Friendship_Cannon 1,676 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 Who dislikes Spongebob on here >:| (bring it!). Nah, just kidding, I really like it, watched it a long time and still do (though the newer episodes lost a bit of it´s charme to me). It has not the same kind of fandom and rightaway community MLP:FIM created = Bronies, but it´s a big part of my childhood, and it´s just very, very entertaining, very, very loveable and quite a bit educating (or I am just interpreting stuff in it)... So, I like both, pretty much! 2 Signature made by the amazing ~Harmonic Dreams~ I always pictured you as a cross between Demoman and Pinkie Pie for some reason. Betez 1,734 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 (edited) I personally love Spongebob. I will say though that I think the newer episodes aren't as good as the ones in the past. I really feel like Spongebob hit its peak around 2006, and then kinda leveled for a few years, and has very slowly gone downhill since 2010. But hey, Spongebob's as old as Family Guy, so when a show's been on TV for over 13 years, I wouldn't be surprised if the writers are starting to run out of ideas. This is all my opinion, of course. I still love to watch Spongebob. Skullbuster 1,906 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 im surprised you think that, i have yet to meet a person who hates sponge bob, other than my self, i watched a few episodes, i just never got into the humor, i remember one event where spongebob took off his pants and ran off to live with jelly fish, it was at this point, (keep in mind, im a child, about 8 or so) i say to my self "this is inappropriate for me" and changed the channel and never watched it again, but i saw its influence spread, ever since spongebob got really popular in 2003 ish, the over all quality of all cartoons went down, all of them trying to copy spongebob and the result was every cartoon channel was filled with stupid, heck there was a point where i just stopped watching cartoon network all together, and then in the 5th grade i stopped watching cartoons period, and i blame spongebob for that decline in quality 1 My Let's Play channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy14-AEEHdfj5QQAlYtB1_A Need a guest Rapper on a song? talk to me!: http://mlpforums.com/topic/103097-guest-rapper-for-you/ NEW SONG:
Sapphire Quill 1,186 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 I personally love spongebob, how can't you? it's just so childish, Personally brings back memories for me. everything about it I love, and well it shouldn't be compared to MLP, they're completely different shows, really I love it, and well I haven't met many people who hate it in my mind, even some of my teachers love it, and they're easily 40. so not all of that is true, but some of it is. and that's my opinion ~Sapphire 3 ✧ Made by Azura, Much Appreciated ✧
Leafeon 2,702 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 ....Where did you get that from, exactly? I don't like the show myself, as it now feels like the humour is very tired, but since I don't actually watch it, I don't have a solid opinion. I've never heard anyone say they really hated it, though... 2 Eeveelutions: @Vaporeon: N-Harmonia : Ampharos @Flareon: Descant/Bard @Espeon: Locked @Umbreon: Lhee @Leafeon: Firebolt @Glaceon: Mal @Sylveon: Don'tDropThatDedenne

But, it wouldn't be easy to compare My Little Pony to the old Spongebob episodes. Pretty much, you can hate the show after the movie. 1 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Sir.Flutter Hooves 2,953 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 I USED to love Spongebob when it was still good. Seasons 1-3 and the movie were the best, we're talking about Band Geeks and Chocolate with Nut, two of the best episodes of animation history ever. But, right after the great movie the quality dropped a lot, because all the original people left. The characters were annoying, Spongebob who used to a funny adult was now an annoying 6-year old. Plus, each new episode has already been done, cheap Krabs, Squidward's Depression. Don't get me wrong, I used to love it, but it got unwatchable after the movie. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,727 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 I will admit that I have compared the two, FiM to Spongebob, but I realize that they are not too comparable, they both do their own thing. I do think that FiM is far superior (since the new SB episodes are....meh) but I still love Spongebob, but mostly the older episodes. There are actually tons of hilarious, subtle things about the older episodes that makes me laugh a lot when I look back on them.
Mutemutt 773 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 Well, I used to watch the show a long time ago. It was a funny show with some of its jokes like the story of the ugly barnacle and the whole weenie hut thing, the imagination box sfx etc. And how can we forget the "push it somewhere else" meme, thanks Patrick. Still, I lost interest in the show. The episodes I see now just aren't that funny to me and comedy was the only thing the show had going for it. deadprofile 1,122 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 (edited) I watched spongebob in early middle school, when it first started. At first it was okay, but as it started to go down line of "stupid" humor, it just turned me off to it. There are so many adult references that no 8 year old should hear, and it, in my eyes, brought about the STUPID cartoons we know of today. Their humor does not teach morals nor does it entertain in a normal sense, (like looney tunes, where the humor included so much dialogue, whereas Mickey Mouse was very bouncy, but used real situations to bring humor and often taught something of a moral. I consider FIM to be more like the older Disney cartoons). Spongebob, Chowder, Regular Show, Adventure Time, The Misadventures of Flapjack, Ed Edd and Eddy etc etc. use stupid humor. Nothing is learned, no knowledge is gained, nothing "special" to be remembered, and morality is degraded, and when you make humor within the lines of these aspects, this is stupidity, and if stupidity is funny, then what will come of the people who watch it, especially when nearly every modern major cartoon there is out there follows this pattern? I am not saying I do not at all like any of these shows, In fact most of them I have watched and enjoyed to some extent, but if that is all that is popular and out there and that is most of what is available out there, it's just not very healthy to be constantly exposed to. Avatar tag: shipping 299 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 I loved ol' Spongebob when I was younger. It was one of my favorite shows, a close second to Ed, Edd, and Eddy. I have to agree that the show has kind of fallen flat as of late. But that doesn't mean I stop watching it, something had to keep me occupied until season 4! Sig by the one and only Doc Volt! Pinkazoid 3,493 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 (edited) I doni't compare them to each other, but Spongebob had a "Golden Era" of some sort which was pretty much every episode before the Movie. I'll admit there's some good spongebob episodes which i'll watch if i have nothing better to do, but i rather watch this: than this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GZM6t6jU8k&feature=endscreen Spongebob, Chowder, Regular Show, Adventure Time, The Misadventures of Flapjack, Ed Edd and Eddy etc etc. use stupid humor. Don't group Chowder with those other shows ; n ; I hate the rest of those, but not Chowder, while it had some slapstick humor, it had pretty good moments were it took some background knowledge to understand, and it had constant flashbacks of other episodes as if trying to remind the viewer about them, and i still believe Chowder was the last good made in Cartoon Network, because i hate everything that airs nowadays. immblueversion 331 May 18, 2013 Share May 18, 2013 (edited) I coincidentally stumbled upon one of the newer episodes of SpongeBob the other day after a really long time of not thinking about SpongeBob. And while it's obvious that one episode does not totally denote the tone of the whole show or whatever direction it's gone in, I must say that what I saw was pretty uninspired; it was like anything any other cartoon could have done, and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I almost forgot all about it by the time I came across this thread. Like Star Trek: Insurrection, I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either.
