I am a metal girl through and through, and I do not see that changing any time soon. I listen to regular rock too, but my main focus is metal.

I checked other because I do have some other things in there. Though, it's primarily game soundtracks and remixes. But hey, those count goddammit.

I'm a person that really only listens to video game music, so, I don't think most of these genres apply?

But My BF is getting me into EDM, so I guess that out of all the genres that exist.

Quick update: power pop has quickly become one of my fave music genres; it's sadly overlooked due to the stigma that classic pop-rock akin to the 1963-1965 era Beatles, the 1962-1965 era Beach Boys, and the 1965-1969 era Who is nothing, and that rock music just be treated as solely an art form, with all the pretentiousness that entails.

honestly (and I think fellow power pop fans like @Anneal can agree with me on this), power pop is a genre that needs more respect and love. Frank Zappa once said the definition of rock journalism was, and I quote, “People who can't write, doing interviews with people who can't think, in order to prepare articles for people who can't read.”

Nowhere does this ring more true in the case of power pop. To quote Ken Sharp, power pop is "the Rodney Dangerfield of rock 'n' roll. ... the direct updating of the most revered artists—the Who, the Beach Boys, the Beatles—yet it gets no respect."

Anyone else agree?

The holy trinity of80s music: New wave, punk, and heavy metal (at least, in my book).

Punk didn't actually last very long into the 80s. Punk rock was fairly short-lived in the mainstream and pretty much gone after the Sex Pistols had disbanded. Most major punk bands like The Clash, The Ramones, and Dead Kennedys either switched to hardcore, post-punk, or new wave. Punk won't really make a mainstream comeback until the mid-90s with pop punk bands like Green Day or blink-182. It might be more accurate to include hip-hop instead of punk, as hip-hop quickly flourished and grew in that decade with groups like Run-DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, and Beastie Boys. At the end of the decade, gangsta rap began to pop up with groups like the N.W.A. and rappers like Ice T.

Yeah, one of my favorite bands is Weezer and they can partially be considered a power pop/alternative rock band, depending on the album. Power pop is still active in the modern music industry, though most of it is indie nowadays like Ozma or Teenage Fanclub, save for older power pop bands like Cheap Trick.
