Like everyone else has been saying, I don't see Rarity as stuck up at all. She does symbolize the element of generosity after all....

Rarity, although a self-centered and vain member of the Main 6, will [scarcely] demonstrate her capabilities of generosity, appreciation, and affection towards her fellow civilians.
Her normal vain self is most likely a point the writers wanted to demonstrate; even those who appear overboard and self-assured, can be generous and thoughtful of others. Most likely an idea implanted by Lauren.

Can you give a reason past what you've already said? I mean, I'm all for opinions, but I feel there's a huge misinterpretation of her character on your part, and you haven't backed up your reasoning to well, if you want me to be blunt.

Sonic Rainboom was actually the first episode I ever watched, and Rarity's character was kind of how I expected her to be.

 

But obviously as I watched the rest of the series I saw how untrue that was. Trust me, just give her a chance.

Rarity is just fine she's sweet and I don't think the element of Generosity would choose a stuck up pony.-this is coming from a RD Fan.

 

Darling is just a nice way of calling someone without using their name like saying " Oh Hon." or " Honey."

 

Now if she said something like " Now Bless your Heart." then she could be thought of as a stuck up.

 

Here in the south a woman who says BYH is basicly calling you a Ignorant Bitch.

I'm sorry but I find her so stuck up. In fact she reminds me of all those rich bitches I knew when I was in university (I studied at Royal Holloway) In fact I remember this one chick who always used to use the term 'darling'!

Well Rarity is actually my second least favorite of the mane six. I don't hate her I just find her the most stereotypical. However, she has some of the most hilarious moments on the show other than Pinkie and she seems to have one of the best track records for good episodes about her.

I love Rarity....um, platonically that is. She's hands down my favorite character, mainly due to the fact that she is a very fun and dynamic character that works well in many different roles within the show.

Yeah, Rarity is the Best Pony of all the ponies. She's funny and clever, nuanced (maybe more in the first two seasons than right now, but it's still there), her dedication to her art is admirable, St. Germaine continuously knocks it out of the park, her episodes tend to be the among the strongest of the entire series, and she's so adowable.

Definitely not my favorite, but she has traits i like. For example she is a hard worker, she runs carousel boutique and does whatever she can to make deadlines. She also has some traits i don't like, i personalty don't think she represents her element as well as the other ponies. She is self centered at times in expense to her friends.

I admit, sadly she has come over greedy despite the fact that she has or is the element of generosity, which has not won her any friends.

 

I wish they would portray her element better or give her more chances to sue it in big ways, I mean she made them dresses but thats all really!

She's actually done a ton of generous things. However, you both are right in that they often have her undermine that aspect of her's for no particularly reason, usually extraneous comedy.

In the beginning, I wasn't too crazy about her, b/c she's such a drama queen.  However, with her generous and respectful personality, I began to start liking her.     At this point, you can say she falls as one of my top 5.

Because I went out with a girl in uni who thought she was a fashionista. She thought everybody was jealous of me, but in reality no one could stand her, or the little clique she had. I couldn't go out with her because she'd spend nearly an hour criticising what I looked like. Not to mention badmouthing everyone around her!

Rarity doesn't do those things.

Like, ever. 

 

But I see where you're coming from.

Main point of misunderstanding is that Rarity is an expat from older times.

Nowadays, yes, many people like her are what you described, but that's hardly relevant to the character when she's based off this woman (digitally recreated for this commercial)

Not a perfect proxy mind. I suspect Faust's Venus for Galaxy girls is more so, being more demure. Which I think is a good idea as Rarity is a bit too modern. 

Hard to explain.

Hopefully being demure doesn't gut her theatricality and boldness.

 

She is stuck up and cares a lot about appearances but she cares for her friends and is a very serious businesswoman. She's a go-getter and knows what she wants out of everything so it comes across as a little pushy but she never seems to have any malicious intent.

I'm just quoting this because it's useful, not really a rebuttal to the person in question.

 

You can't be stuckup and be generous and caring. 

The two are irreconcilable.

Now uptight on the other hand...
