Some ones I think sound cool are

  • Japanese. I've always though that it sounded cool. I should totally learn it, then I wouldn't need annoying subtitles for my animes, well that and I could visit Japan and I could actually communicate.
  • Russian. It has such a unique sound to it. I've always enjoyed the sound of the Russian Language.
  • English, because I speak it. :D

I love all the Slavic languages; especially Russian, which I'm learning because my boyfriend is Russian.

I also really like Finnish, French, Norwegian, and German.

Russian will always be my favorite language though. It's so beautiful!

Wha- How come nobody ever said Math? MATH IS THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL!

Other than Math, I like Portuguese a lot. Mostly because I speak it, and it's very similar to English and Spanish at the same time. Also, there are some amazing books written in Portuguese that I can't even describe. I'll just list them here and if anyone is interested they can look for a translation.

  • Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas (Machado de Assis)
  • Viagens na Minha Terra (Almeida Garrett)
  • Capitães da Areia (Jorge Amado)
  • Vidas Secas (Graciliano Ramos)

I like English because of its versatility but my favorite language is Italian. My Dad immigrated to America from Italy when he was 6 so much of my Dad's side of the family including him knew how to speak it so I was exposed to it from a young age. It is a very beautiful language, there is something about how it sounds to me that is molto bene (very good). I also like Japanese because it just sounds bad ass and German is also a fairly interesting though seriously harsh sounding language.

I wonder why ponies are saying that English is hard or frustrating. img-2010890-1-huh.png It's actually very simple to learn. I wonder what specific aspects made it hard to learn.

@Nightmare Diamond I'm a native English speaker, so I don't know if my opinions are quite correct, but I and many Latinos I know think that English is difficult mostly because of three things: first, it often fails to follow its own rules.  For instance, the "i before e, except after c" rule is broken in many words, such as weird, albeit, and protein.  Granted, many of these words are not common, but rules should, theoretically, be rules.  Second, it has very strange conjugations that are not so much difficult as they are different from many other languages.  We native English-speakers don't often think of ourselves as "conjugating" our verbs, but we kind of are.  The verb "to be" becomes "am" for I; "is" for he, she, or it; and "are" for we and they.  These conjugations are not intuitive, and don't follow a distinct pattern (for instance, "to go" is conjugated exactly the same for I, they, and we), and thus, may be difficult for foreigners to learn.  Thirdly, English words often have non-intuitive pronunciations.  I honestly can't illustrate this better than these poems.

So, that was highly verbose, but hopefully this helped you (and anyone else in confusion) as to why English could be considered difficult.

I've always wanted to learn Italian, German, and Russian.  My family dates back to Germany from hundreds of years ago, so why not learn that language?  I've also always wanted to go to Italy, and Russian just seems like fun language to learn.

Based purely on aesthetics, I like the way Chinese and Russian sound.  Tonal languages in general sound fantastic, and Chinese in particular flows very nicely.  Russian comes with a kind of attitude that makes the sound really pop.  Totally subjective, but that's my opinion.

I guess that I never think about it because I caught on to English really easily. The words poems were amusing enough. They're not that hard though if a person practices enough. They can be learned and remembered in context.

I would certainly agree--English, though strange in syntax and grammar, is the same as other languages in that it simply must be practiced.  I hope you didn't mind the, er, longness of my post.

Latin always sounds magical but I prefer the Dovah language from Skyrim for having an awesome song. Japanese is also cool with the plenty of Anime theme songs

I really like Mandarin Chinese (I took it in high school and it's awesome) and Ancient Gaelic (I know it's pretty much a dead language...kinda...but I love how it sounds and have been teaching myself it for quite some time now)

French, mostly. I know quite a bit; it's so pretty. The noun genders always got on my nerves though. English is my native language; I wouldn't say I necessarily like it though, but I don't not like it.

As for languages I would like to learn... I think North Germanic languages like Swedish and Norwegian sound really cool. Or perhaps Finnish, although I've heard it's rather difficult to learn.

I'm Korean, but I like English the best, since my Korean level is still primary school level. But, I don't like English when it comes to subtitles for anime. Korean translates anime better than English.

In my opinion English is the most ugly and frustrating languages ever.

I'm a native English speaker and when I think about how the English language "works", the more I realize that its "rules" are dauntingly complex. Anyone who is ESL, I automatically admire.
