The word 'Brony'

okay, so i know i watch MLP: FIM(obviously) and like the show, but do i really have label myself as a 'Brony'? Quite frankly, i don't like being called a Brony, it makes me feel like a chocolate pastry. My question is, is it really necessary to label yourself as a 'Brony'?

i'm not saying to hide the fact that you watch MLP, i'm saying if you actually like calling yourself a 'Brony'? i actually like the word Pegasister better than Brony lol.

Well no, self identifying is a good way to express yourself. Call yourself whatever you want, a pony enthusiast, a fan boy, a pegasister, a peanut butter sandwich, anything really! Be who you want to be! Fuck labels.

Call it whatever you want, feel free to invent a new term. Who know, it might even catch on.

Brony is just the most commonly used term, derived obviously from 'brother' and 'pony'

For all the difference it makes in the world call yourself a 'pony enthusiest' say you are 'ecstatic about equines' 'crazy for colts' 'fanatic about fillies' 'awesome at alliteration' so long as you are comfortable calling yourself that it is a correct term to use.

No it's just a stupid TV show, but I kinda like it because there's defiantly some meaning towards the term, a history and a message.  Like I'm a brony, I like this show, and I participate in this fandom.  It doesn't really mean anymore than that to me.

You don't have to identify as a brony, just as someone who likes the show. Much like not everyone who watches Star Trek is a Trekkie.

However, be prepared to be labeled by society at large as a brony against your will. Sticks and stones and all that.

Heh, be a pegasister or pegabro then ;) Here's some friendly advice from your neighborhood Dean,

Hell, i consider myself a nega-brony (or negasister in my case), which is a totally made up term for bronies with a villainous slant.

By the practically universally agreed upon definition of "Brony", you are one.

You don't have to go around calling yourself one all of the time, but that doesn't mean you aren't one.

Like any fandom it's if you feel the need to belong you'll use the label

Personally I don't label myself brony because my love of technicolor cartoon horses isn't defining. Also I don't want to be associated with some of the shady stuff that is done by hardcore fans (see any drama and the over reaction to it). Also the term has a lot of thea lot of negative connotations.

I've never liked the term, either. Even if I was a guy and a bigger fan of the show than I currently am, I still don't think I would go by the label. Then again, that could be because I'm not one to go under such kind of labels... Perhaps "band geek" would be the closest that I've ever called myself.

Either way, you are not a "Brony" unless you call yourself one. It's a fan-made term and thus can only apply to those who wish to apply it to themselves.

...Do I need to alert the authorities?

I like brony more than pegasister actually i honestly HATE the word pegasister but call yourself what you want it's up to you :)

Yeah, I agree. I find the term pegasister to be really contrived and stupid.

I could see why you don't like the title. I personally don't really care about labeling myself anything. I like the show and talking about it, so I only go by "brony" on the forums. In real life, if I ever come out about being a brony, I'll just call myself "somebody that likes mlp" rather than brony.
