How do bronies compare to other fandoms?

Bendy

Recommended Posts

No fandom is any better or worse than another. They all have their good elements and their bad elements. One person brought up soccer hooligans as a great example. I love soccer personally as I love Major League Soccer, Sporting KC, Bundesliga, and Bayern Munich and such hooligan so NOT represent me, nor do they represent the soccer fandom as a whole.

I love the brony community personally. The only real difference is that it just happens to be fairly sizeable and still in its prime.

Saying that, I will admit I prefer it over the IndyCar fanbase in general. I won't label all IndyCar fans like this and I still love the sport, but there has been so much negativity that it just tends to weigh down any bit of positive news that tends to come up.

since someone changed the title, ill say this

bronies arent too different from other fandoms, sterotyped, think were pedos etc

what does make us stand out is that a lot of bronies host charities or give a lot to charity

I'm glad you decided to add something positive here!

Though the Brony stereo type isn't particualry the best, I must admit that many bronies do seem to give a lot to charities!

The first anime fandoms I was in were like hell, you were one of them if you loved Dragon Ball Z, Saint Seiya and others, but you were crucified if you loved Pokémon, Digimon and other more kid-friendly animes. Thankfully anime fandoms are more open these days.

Beliebers... That is all I've got to say

It was already pretty when he was starting off, but now he is not only just not really that good of a musician, but he is also arrogant and a huge trouble maker.

So if it wasn't already bad enough of a fandom, but it's just like, why does this even exist?

Anyways, not speaking about Beliebers.

Minecraft has a bit of an annoying fanbase now a days to be honest. Because its mostly comprised of young children. I'm talking about like 11 year olds or something. That's not to say that is all of the fanbase, and I don't even dislike Minecraft, but the fanbase does have quite a lot of children of that age category.

This would be all fine and dandy, except they're the immature annoying kind of children. I've know people who are their age and are mature(Or close to it) so I know not all children that age are that way, and I mean no offense to anyone who is of that age group, but it's just there seems to be a particularly high concentration of children who are immature within the Minecraft fan base.

Of course any fanbase has their ups and downs, none of them are perfect, if you stick around long enough in any then you will discover that.

Idk if this counts, but League of Legends has a quite harsh fanbase. Granted it is a competitive game so it makes a bit more sense, but they do get quite ridiculous at some points. I suppose the same is true for a lot of MOBAs though.

That said, I find it has improved over what it use to be. Although I don't really actively play League of Legends anymore personally. And when I do it's with a mostly full party of friends.

Might I ask... Why does it matter? Every fandom has a aspect that makes them unique, we shouldn't have to worry how we compare to other fandoms and focus on the aspects that make us unique as a fandom. All worrying about other fandoms does is make people paranoid and believe they need to prove themselves or act ''superior'' in order to feel like their fandom matters. Its better to be proud of our fandom as it currently is then worrying if it is better or worst than other fandoms, because whether it is or isn't is subjective to the people on the outside viewing in.

You deserve a few of these:

Yes, it's the same thing minus one aspect. And yiffies are sadly not a minority among them.

No, it's not the same thing.  Your inability to see this is somewhat sad.  Not all furries are yiffies, and some of them even take offense to the yiffy side of what they love, just like some bronies are offended by the cloppers.  ...and who said anything about yiffies being a minority of the furries?  I have no idea on the ratio; I'm just intelligent enough to know that one does not have to be a yiffy in order to be a furry, because a yiffy is a sub-category of furry.  They are not necessarily the same thing, again, just like squares and rectangles.

What part of 'minus one aspect' do you not understand? Your excessive emphasis on a single part of my statement coupled with your jumping to conclusions and saying I don't understand is pissing me the hell off. I been in the goddamn fandom for almost ten years, I know the difference. One side actively jacks off to animals, the other side doesn't; there's seriously isn't much differentiating going on here.

I know furries get offended by yiffies, in fact, they are so offended by it that they decided to make a hypocritical group (more than a decade ago) to target them called the Burned Furs. Unfortunately, bronies are going down that road by continuing to bash cloppers for the sole reason of simply refusing the fact they are associated with us.

To Whovians. Thousands to Millions. To Harry Potter fans. Thousands to Millions. Initial D fans. We are on the same boat. 1990s early 2000s Sega fans. On the same boat. Furries. Thousands to Millions. We will eventually overtake everyone though. Speaking of which. When does MLP Go into public domain?

Well, now you know how I've been feeling.  You've been saying that they're the same thing the entire time, but only recently have been adding the "minus one thing."  I will accept your statement as a declaration of neutrality, and apologize for my share in the misunderstanding between us.

First I can say this fanbase is alot kinder than the Sonic fanbase which was if you don't own a mint condition Sega Mega Drive with a boxed mint condition copy of Sonic 1 shut up.

And alot less divided than the Vocaloid fanbase which in my experiance If you can't make Vocaloid music just listen and keep to your corner. Or in my case upload video's on Nico Nico and be treated like a god.... But the computer voice getting all the credit -_-

I think there are some fandoms that are bigger than ours. Namely, the Whovians, Trekkies, and whatever you call Sonic/Mario fans. But I think that Bronies have done the most good for others, there are always charities where Bronies donate a lot of money, and there are many Bronies who also try to clean up the darker side of the fandom so that those who don't want to see the darker side won't (most of the time)

So I was browsing a Juggalo forum and it reminded me of this thread. The topic of bronies came up and while there were a few who hated the idea and whatnot, most were supportive or said that it simply didn't bother them. One who had a more neutral view on bronies responded said something along the lines of "You might find some resistance here, but in their community you'll find much much more hate towards us".

Damn, he's 100% right. I think some of ya'll need to take a look in the mirror. This whole "making fun of other fandoms" and "talking down to other fanbases" stuff going on in this thread is pretty ridiculous to be honest. Trying to validate your fandom by trying to stand above another doesn't make your's look any better. It's like a bullied kid bullying someone smaller. We're all misunderstood or frowned upon to some extent by the general populous. There are bad apples in every bunch, therefor I don't think it's fair to judge an entire fandom unless you've done extensive research on them and have a fair idea of the community as a whole. Why throw dirt on each other?

I don't hate any fandom or any aspect of a fandom, but the GEEWUNN'ers in the Transformers fandom irritate me. I can only handle so much repetition of phrases like; "MICHAEL BAY RAPED MY CHILDHOOD!1!", "TRUKK NOT MUNKY!1!", "OPTIMUS PRIME IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE FLAMES!1!", "WHY ISN'T SHOCKWAVE VOICED BY COREY BURTON!1!", etc.

Apple fanboys are the absolute WORST.

They are so elitist, that they make your average PC fanboy look calm.

For one thing, they say their hardware is superior, yet they probably don't know half of what they say. What makes it even worse is the price for it: (Bigger price =/= better.) An iMac for $1099 specs have the same power as my crappy Gateway SX which is $280. Heck, with that money you could've bought a water-cooled PC.

Not only that, but making it even worse is the OS ability to install software. Which only half of available software can be used.

The absolute worst fandom is the Call of Duty fandom. You have to agree even if you are in that fandom. Bronies make good videos what do COD Fanboys make? Videos about them getting a tomahawk kill from across the map. The COD fandom is definitely the worst.

I have to agree with what a few other people said. It's not really fair to call other fanbases worse than us; every fanbase has bad eggs, and we shouldn't generalize.

I can at least say that every juggalo that I've met were jerks (minus one that was a friend of mine before ICP came out), especially towards one another.  While I can't agree that they are all like that, it is clear to me that the ones in my part of the world deserve all of the hate they receive, and then some.  I see my friend as proof that not all of them are jerks, so it's foolish to assume that they are all like that.

Like wise, I don't see a lot of hate for fandoms here in general, at least not in the way that you're describing.  Take me for example.  I have no shame in pointing out my disgust for the Pokemon franchise.  This is a hatred I've had since I learned of their existence.  However, I don't dog the fans for loving it, unless they try to shove it down my throat.  I think some people perceive my hatred for the franchise as an act of belittling the fandom itself (even though I don't get why so many people like it).  That's what is going on with many of these cross-fandom discussions.

Scroll through this thread, Juggalos are frequently brought up as "the worst fandom ever".

Yeah, some sections of the fandom are so violent that the FBI had Juggalo's marked on the books as a gang at one point, not even kidding.

Just to clear the air on this, the FBI is 100% in the wrong on that one. A few completely unrelated crimes occurred by people who happened to be Juggalos, and the FBI included the nonexistent "gang" section of the fandom in their Gang Report. It's complete nonsense. It's like taking a few Beliebers who commit crimes and calling the fandom a gang. Juggalos aren't tagging up turf, doing organized drive-by's, or whatever gang-related activity. They're currently being sued by ICP for the absurd gang classification
