gaming Had Sonic Ruined For You?

No, I couldn't care less about the sonic fanbase, with a few exceptions here and there. I just judge the games and cartoons on their own merits and decide which ones I like and which ones I don't.

 

 Sonic 3 and Knuckles is still one of my favorite games of all time, and no amount of stupidity from it's fans will convince me otherwise.

 

 Plus, projects like Sonic after the sequel have shown that there is still some legitimate good in that community. Even if a disproportionately large number of people in it have gone completely bonkers.

I was never much a Sonic fan.

Yeah, I like the old games, and Sonic X was enjoyable.

But I never enjoyed it enough to consider joining the fandom or draw art of it.

 

But I did cringe with them when Sonic Boom character designs were revealed...that unplanned pregnancy is going to need quite the clean up.

My issue more of the fact that liking Sonic is almost like a death sentence online. I've had people on the DA forums blow me off just because I have old Sonic Fanart in my gallery.

Depending on where you are Sonic fans can bite. Classic Sonic purists are the worst of the worst though. I've been bullied, insulted and discredited because I tend to be on the modern side of Sonic and I used to not be able to beat the early Sonic games.

I try to avoid the sonic fandom as much as possible, they're like rabid tasmanian devils waiting for you to say the wrong thing so they can pounce....

A rather large portion of the Sonic fanbase has kind of gone completely loco in recent years. They have no idea what they want, complain about literally everything, and attack anyone who disagrees. Imagine your typical internet fandom, with all of it's worst traits emphasized times a million.

 

 Unfortunately this has led people to blow off anyone who likes Sonic, just because of the crazies.

 While I prefer the classics, a lot of the modern games are pretty good in their own ways. They are just not necessarily what I wanted out of a sonic game. Of course games like Sonic 06 are just awful, but that game is a one of a kind.

Pretty much nothing for me.

 

I fell in love with the character long before actually playing his games. SA2 is still among my all time favorite titles, and as much as most of his games are panned, I typically enjoy them. They are a lot of fun.

 

(Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with the 2D Sonic formula. He's always been 3D from my perspective.)

 

I loved Sonic Sat Am, and thought Sonic X was fun, if not as good. Maybe I'm just ludicrously easy to please, but the fans have ruined none of my enjoyment. If anything, all the negativity from the fans that my favorite games receives only puzzle me. I mean, I see their points, the "problems" just never bothered me.

Pretty much, I don't know about the rest of the net but on DeviantArt some people will blow off even someone acting completely rational just because they have a Sonic icon or Sonic fanart in their gallery.

 

Keep mind all the Sonic stuff in mine is well over three years old(shit, maybe more like four) and doesn't start popping until three pages in(and even then it's really thin and does go full Sonic until 2-3 more pages) and someone still pulled that on me.

 

Yes, I found someone so petty that "your gallery is full of Sonic and Ponies" is enough to blow you off.

I didn't know sonic had a fandom...sure I knew it had fans but I didn't know they gathered. I guess I'm a sonic fan for everything Sonic Adventure 2 and before. After that, I'm not so keen. So...what's wrong with the sonic fandom?

 

As for if the fandom has ruined sonic for me...no because I didn't know there was a fandom exactly and I'd say the later games have ruined sonic for me...lost its charm.

 I don't care, they'd hate me for a hell of a lot more than that. The classics might be my favorite, but I still think the Adventure series is awesome, and the original Riders is my favorite racing game.

Actually, originally in Japan he was called Dr. Eggman, it was when they ported the games to the West that they changed his name to Dr. Robotnik. In the later games they kept him has Dr. Eggman. He has always been called Eggman in Japan.

The reputation that Sonic fans is a lot older than just the last few years. They've  had the reputation of weird fanbase creepyness for at least a decade, and on par with furries and I guess our fanbase right now.
