I name all my instruments Do your instruments have names and what are they?

 

Mine are:

 

Boho - harp

Elmer - double bass

Emily - electric guitar

Baby - bass guitar

Buttons - microkorg

Qwerty - Keyboard

Pokit - soprano uke

Bezaleel - concert uke

 

I've also stolen my father's acoustic guitar but it is technically his so I haven't named it..

It's quite common among musicians for us to name our instruments. They're more than just objects to us, they become like extensions of ourselves and each instrument is so, so very different. They all have their own distinct feel and there's something that is very personal about yours. I refer to my instruments all as 'she' or 'he' rather than it, they're my babies Especially Boho, my love for her is unconditional.

Haha, I know sooooooo many people with clarinets named 'clarry'. I guess all instruments have names like that, I never particularly liked the sound of harpy though... Sylvia is a good name for a sax though

My brother plays blues guitar. I'll have to remember to ask if he named his. I do know one of his most prized possessions is a guitar pick personally given to him by B.B. King after a concert. A friend of his managed to get him back stage after the show, and Mr. King gave him the pick he used that night. He didn't throw it off the stage or anything. He placed it right into my brother's hand. The reason I mention this is B.B King's guitar is named Lucille.

Can't say that I do. It would feel a little strange for me to call my instruments by name rather than "My acoustic" and "My El-guitar".

Not saying that it's strange to give you're instrument names, just that It would feel strange for me. I did try it two years ago or something but I can't remember the names I used

I named my drum set Sassafras. There's no story behind it, I just did. -_-

It is an interesting tale, if I do say so myself

 

A friend of mine was at my house, and we were bored (there's not too much to do here). So, he decides to go play on my drumkit

 

Now the throne I have (the stool you sit on when playing... yes, that's the actual name for them) was a really cheap one made for kids that cost about 15 bucks at guitar center. It wasn't exactly made for people over 100 lbs, and me and my friend both weigh about 130

 

So I was expecting it to break one day, and eventually it did... Except it decides to break when my friend sits on it. And it broke in a way that I wasn't expecting at all

 

The metal post that holds up the seat punched through the cushion as soon as he sat on it, almost going straight into his you-know-where... Luckily it didn't go all the way through, and the cheap leather prevented the post from making it out the other side

 

So yeah, my friend was okay, he just felt slightly violated afterwords. We decided my drumkit had tried to rape him, so we called it the rape machine

 

He's afraid of it now, even though I bought a new throne

Yeah they're around the price of a car... But it is going to be my career so it's an investment and Boho is my harp for life. It is rather frustrating though as unlike with guitars, where you can quite affordably build up a collection of high end instruments, with the harp you really have to save. It's annoying because I'd really love an electroacoustic as gigging and recording atm is a bloody nightmare. Micing up a harp and getting it to sound good isn't easy :/
