The emotional states of Bronies

Recommended Posts

This is kindof a wierd question, but has anypony else noticed that most bronies are either totally on top of things and are very kind, or they are a depressed train wreck? or is this just me? I guess it just comes down to whether the person has learned to deal with the hate or not.

Most people in some fandoms are emotional wrecks, it's just how they are, they just happen to like ponies or be a furry or whatever they're into. Usually has to do with a lot of social/behavioral conditions they've developed or were born with.

That and people who don't have jobs and hang out on the internet most of the time are more likely to be unstable in this way as their minds are idle and they build up anxiety.

I'm pretty depressed and I try to be kind and as helpful to other people as I can. I don't know why I am like this or why MLP attracts me, but the reason may be because I can relate to the characters really well and I learn new things while watching.

I've also noticed that there are lot of people here who share same problems as I do and that really keeps me going, because I see that I'm not alone! post-28950-0-46282100-1413056515.png

Its just sad to see that all these people are having these problems, and i try to help when i can, but theres just no easy way of helping everyone. My advice is to just tank through any hardships, and then when you finally get through them, the peace will be that much more relaxing.

Yeah many are emotional wrecks. I my self am a mental wreck (not really, but I think I am). I try to help people, however I am afraid of doing so. Not because I'm shy but because what if I make things worse. What if a person that I'm trying to help takes my advice the wrong way.

Many inside the brony fandom have problems and they are attracted to mlp because they can relate to the characters and they are attracted to the brony fandom because the fandom is so welcoming and tolerant unlike many other fandoms or groups.

Honestly I don't think hate is a factor to put into this.

It's more along the lines of people are having to deal with emotional turmoil which is pretty common considering the age range for a lot of bronies. The good thing is we're open enough to admit these problems and move on from them!

People tend to notice only the extremes, those between the far ends of the scales will be largely forgotten. :please:

Charlie Brown is easily overshadowed by Lucy and Snoopy.

The fandom is too big to make such large generalizations, it depends on the person in question.

This is my thought as well. :)

I usually live by the idea that each individual, through a complicated mix of environment, genetics, and experiences, is not replicated in anyone else. Put a group of such uniqueness together -  and humans who love looking for patterns - see things where some may not exist. It is both out gift and curse as a species.

On short, imagine each other complexly. </constant statement>

Not really... I have spoken with some people who are extremely depressed/ etc, and extremely kind/ happy, but I have never seen it as black and white like that.

I see what you mean to an extent, however. A chunk of the people who use the internet regularly seem to be a little more... emotional than most. But there are clear outliers to this, so I would have to say, no, I haven't really noticed.

Eh; I don't see myself as a wreck but I am really emotional. I can not talk about my feelings without crying. Even if I talk to my mom about the stupidest thing I'll burst into tears. It's kinda embarrassing. I have major social anxiety too and got a referral to a psychiatrist so I'm kinda nervous about talking to him. I gotta feeling I'll probably bust out crying.

Every fandom has those train wrecks and some that are just slightly emotional. Nothing really to it. It's nothing new.

Like Starshine said, I think people tend to notice the extremes more.  I also think that there are probably a lot more people out there than we realize with all sorts of problems.  Everybody's got something.  Lots of people are depressed, have low self-esteem, etc.  But you don't know about it because we all keep to ourselves most of the time.  But in a place like this, people open up, so we see the pain all around us that we didn't know was there.  But one thing I love about this fandom is that it is made up of all kinds of people.  I think the general public tends to conjure up one type of image when they hear the word "brony," or even "adult mlp fan."  But this community is made up of every kind of person you could imagine.  No stereotype fits.  MLP attracts all kinds, and that's what's so special about it.

This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner.

And that is perfectly fine. I'm serious and speaking on a clinical level and not from a 'its good for the soul' point of view. Do not be afraid of expressing yourself naturally at all. :)

Some of my brony friends here and I started this peer support organization called Project Harmony to help people feel better and share experience.

Yeah there are quite a few of them but I also see people who are pretty neutral, it's just the two extreme sides are more vocalizing which makes them stand out.

I just hope that those who are emotional wrecks will get better.  :D

They can always seek the brony fandom for help  ;)

We watch a show about happy adorable pastel ponies and friendship, how can we NOT be kind and friendly?  :yay:

As for the train wrecks... they're in pretty much ANY fandom or community. It's the kind of people who want to run from reality and do so by obsessing over a show, game, book or whatever. I've met many people like that, and I'm not just talking about bronies.

I used to be like that too (about 4-5 years ago, I didn't even know about mlp back then)

As an emotional trainwreck whose trainwreck status has been officially recognized by the state: I really don't give a crap about people who hate MLP. I was a trainwreck long before I started watching MLP, and I've got a big pile of things that I stress and get emotional about already, so I don't have time for being depressed about haters.

There are emotional states to be sure but I can always sense a ever constant feeling of madness and drama emanating from bronies. If that wasn't there we probably wouldn't have freaked out when Twilight's library got blown up....

Or when Twilight grew wings.

Reading some of the posts about Twilicorn you'd think a family member had died.

I don't lack self confidence, or have any sort of emotional problems (I'm quite skilled at keeping emotions at bay, due to the abundance of drama in my family) so generalizing all bronies as emotional wrecks is irrelevant.

Due to the size of the fandom, it is not such a good idea to generalize in this way. There are a lot of factors to take into account. Most notably, a lot of people will keep their thoughts and feelings to themselves, thus any assumptions about the emotional states of bronies will not be viable.
